It had absolutely nothing to do with how much she studied, of course, or who her friends were and their attitudes on scholastic performance.

I've seen people's grades and jobs ruined by videogames (coughmmoscough) so it's not like weed is special there. I've seen people's lives ruined by abuse of prescription drugs as well. Marijuana should be on the same level as a prescription drug, controlled and given to sick people. Instead it's totally illegal even though most of our current legal recreational and medicinal drugs are about as dangerous. I'm still not following your logic. Other than the fact that it was your sister and not somebody else's, why is this particular substance special?

I was under the impression that they were considering making marijuana for medical reasons legal ?

stfu with the video game bullshit, it's completely irrelevant. The only reason Nynja is focusing on it is because he has already lost the real argument, and is instead trying to win little arguments that are meaningless. He's upset because a stoner with much lower post count than him (e-penis -12) has proven him an idiot over and over again, and has focused his attention on stupid irrelevant bullshit, just as an attempt to distract us.

Nynja is a sad individual whose hatred for pot is driven by his failure of a sister. He insists that pot is bad, and that we should not be allowed to do it by law. What he fails to realize is that the Decleration of Independance, you know, the document on which your country was founded, states that you have an unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You're basically taking a piss all over that.

Why not ban fatty foods? Fatty foods are very bad for you, and are pointless to eat when there are much healthier options that are obviously a better choice. Nynja thinks that the government should be able to make decisions for us regarding what we should and should not consume, so, why not make this choice easy for us, and ban fatty foods? Imagine going to a black market to buy bacon.

Legalizing and controlling marijuana would actually make it HARDER for underage people to buy pot. As it stands now, it's much easier for an underage person to buy weed than alcohol, because drug dealers don't check ID.

I've learned that posting links for anti-drug people is redundant. They are so stubbornly stuck in their ways, and are so closed minded, that they CHOOSE to be ignorant. The worst part is that they also spread their ignorancy. If you don't like drugs or people who do drugs, then don't do drugs, don't socialize with people who do drugs, and get out of our faces.

"If you live in a free country you have the freedom to put anything you want in your own body."

"When you criminalize things that aren't real crimes, you still create real criminals"

"There's nothing like having a few friends over for a coctail or two" - George W. Bush

They serve their drug of choice, alcohol, at the WHITE HOUSE then tell us we can't even own our drug of choice. HYPOCRISY.

If you want to get high for 36 hours straight, it really won't be some insanely large amount of money. Let's see, water bong personals with good bud....let's give a conservative estimate and say you will need to pack a bowl or two every 2 hours. Say you smoke a 5 peice everytime you pack a bowl. Thats 5*13, so $65. Well, for 65$ I can pick up a half ounce...half ounce being 14 grams. Most people can't get that kind of deal, but even if you can't, a quarter ounce is 40-50$ which is 7 grams. That's more then enough to stay high for 36 hours straight for not much at all.

If your sister actually ruined her life, she was doing a lot more then weed. I don't anybody who has ruined their life with bud, but, I do know people who have ruined their life with a combination of pot and xtc, coke, etc. These people however will only admit they smoke pot to people they care about.

On a side note, in ontario there is a drug which has come around, and is completely legal. It's called salvia I believe, may have miss spelled it, but you can buy it legally at any bong shop and most drug stores. What the drug does is give you a 30 minute acid trip. Now, why is this legal but pot isnt? I'm quite confused.

Honestly, whats the point of smoking? None. There is no reason to smoke unless its for medical reasons. Its stupid, waste of money and just makes you dumber than you already are. Grow up, get a job, pay bills, get a family and stop living in mommys basement getting high because youre too depressed to go out side.

Diffrent; honestly I believe the government should but a HUUUGE tax on cigs and alcohol. It may get people to quit, and if it doesnt? More money to get us out of the hole $ wise. I can just sit back and laugh while people pay outrageous prices for silly things such as these.
I'm 22 and get high. I'm getting my degree from an honors university, live on my own, pay my bills, work for a fortune 500 company and have the full support of my family who all of which know i get high.

Also...waste of money? lol. Avg. 21-25 year old goes out at least 2 times a week to the bars/clubs to get drunk. Doing this they spend anywhere from 20-100 dollars in a single night (cover, their drink, drinks for friends, drinks for random girls) girls will spend less, thats a given. Thats anywhere between 40-200 dollars in going out to the bars. And where is the reason to drink?

Now I spend 40-50 bucks for an 8th of pot, lasts me at least a week. I'm not a smoker who smokes to get as fucked up as possible, just like to catch a buzz maybe on the weekend get fucked up once, maybe. So I'm either par with or spending a whole lot less than your avg 20 something person. And whats my reason? To relax or hang with some friends and have a good time.

    your logic fails.

A friend's cousin, was holding a very meaningless and depressing job. Basic deal, 9 to 5. He smoked pot before he started that job as well as during his time at that workplace.

Anyways, smoking pot made him feel a little better and he decided to quit the boring job and went to college. He smoked pot while he was in college, got very good grades, graduated with honors and recieved masters in linguistics. Speaks 5 languages and studying more as you read this.

Now he travels around the world in very high-class circles and works as interpreter, while smoking pot and being very happy.

    True story.

    Columbia University says:

Regular users of marijuana can develop a marked tolerance to the drug, but physical dependence characterized by significant withdrawal symptoms has not been well established in either human or animal studies.
here's some more random quotes that I think fit here:

It seems as though the primary result of the three-pronged attack using strict penalties, silence, and exaggeration has been increased ignorance. Regardless of research findings refuting long-held claims about marijuana addiction since 1972, the old arguments of the 1930s continue to be used when establishing new soft drug laws. People's tendency to hold onto their initial beliefs means that most of their knowledge on the topic of marijuana is based on what their parents taught them. While it is the responsibility of all parents to teach their children values, this is not an acceptable basis for creating law.
    9) Is it true that marijuana makes you lazy and unmotivated?
Not if you are a responsible adult, it doesn't. Ask the U.S. Army. They did a study and showed no effect. If this were true, why would many Eastern cultures, and Jamaicans, use marijuana to help them work harder? `Amotivational syndrome' started as a media myth based on the racial stereotype of a lazy Mexican borracho. The prohibitionists claimed that marijuana made people worthless and sluggish. Since then, however, it has been scientifically researched, and a symptom resembling amotivational syndrome has actually been found. However, it only occurs in adolescent teenagers -- adults are not affected.

When a person reaches adolescence, their willingness to work usually increases, but this does not happen for teenagers using marijuana regularly -- even just on the weekends. The actual studies involved monkeys, not humans, and the results are not verified, but older studies which tried to show `amotivational syndrome' usually only suceeded when they studied adolescents. Adults are not effected.
    11) I don't want children (minors) to be able to smoke marijuana. How can I stop this?
    Legalize it.
They can smoke it now; it is about as easy to get as alcohol. There would be less marijuana being sold in schools, playgrounds, and street corners, though, if it was sold legally through pharmacies -- because the dealers would not be able to compete with the prices. If you are a parent, the choice is really up to you: Do you want your children to sneak off with their friends and use marijuana which they bought off the street, or do you want to talk to them calmly and explain to them why they should wait until they are older? Your children are not going to walk up to you and tell you that they use an illegal drug, but if it was not such a big deal they might give you a chance to explain your feelings. Besides, would you rather children use speed, cocaine, and alcohol?
    17) Isn't smoking marijuana worse for you than smoking cigarettes?
There are many reasons why it is not. You may have heard that ``one joint is equal to ten cigarrettes'' but this is exagerrated and misleading. Marijuana does contain more tar than tobacco -- but low tar cigarettes cause just as much cancer, so what is that supposed to mean? Scientists have shown that smoking any plant is bad for your lungs, because it increases the number of `lesions' in your small airways. This usually does not threaten your life, but there is a chance it will lead to infections. Marijuana users who are worried about this can find less harmful ways of taking marijuana like eating or vaporizing. (Be careful -- marijuana is safe to eat -- but tobacco is not, you might overdose!) Marijuana does not seem to cause cancer the way tobacco does, though.
    20) Aren't you afraid everyone will get hooked?
Marijuana produces no withdrawal symptoms no matter how heavy it is used. It is habit forming (psychologically addictive), but not physically addictive. The majority of people who quit marijuana don't even have to think twice about it. Comparing marijuana to addictive drugs is really quite silly.
    And now, for my favorite:

"Under the Single Convention Treaty and some nations' Schedules or Regulation of Prohibition legislation, the creation of the category 'psychological dependence' or 'psychological addiction' is used as a contrivance to enable the inclusion of the harmless, non-addictive substances in cannabis in the same prohibition legislation as the dangerous, addictive drugs, such as heroin and morphine. It is therefore valid to examine such terminology in connexion with the framing of the law.

"One must make clear from the outset that, by definition, 'subjective preference' or a 'liking' for something, even when the liking is strong, is not 'dependence', nor is it 'addiction'. Dependence and addiction are words which define and describe the morbid [sick] states inevitably induced in humans by their use of particular substances. A person's repeated indulgence in chemically non-addictive substances, such as cornflakes and milk, can be called a habit, but categorically, for Prohibition purposes, this is not a condition definable as addiction or dependence of any type. The word 'dependence' indicates reliance; only if one cannot lead a life without some substance, does one depend upon it.

"The person who is distinctly distressed by having to go to work in the morning without the usual cooked breakfast because of an electrical power-cut [failure] is not suffering from 'psychological dependence. That is to say, the application of the term in such circumstances would be semantically malapropos and literally incorrect. Although one might hear the exasperated "I'm addicted to my boiled eggs in the morning", this is casual talk, and on such grounds no one would seriously contemplate the prohibition of eggs (boiled or otherwise). Similarly, the fact that olives are missing from the pizza might make a person who always likes to take olives with a cooked cheese dish dismayed to some degree, but it categorically does not mean that this person is 'psychologically dependent' on olives.

"Psychological dependence is not simply a strong liking or marked preference for something. Far from it, dependence denotes an acute mental condition, the derangement of normal functioning of an individual. 'Psychological' dependence self-evidently, is a sickness of mind. An uncommon phenomenon sometimes referred to as "addictive personality" is the pathological condition which comes to exist within the mind of a person, characterised by excessive subjective preference for a given substance or substances, the object of which might typically be anchovies, ice-cream, chocolate or even water. The obsessional behaviour of extreme preoccupation with, or inordinate consumption of, any non-addictive substance is the outward sign of an individual's inner psychological dependence. This syndrome of "psychological dependence", is caused by and product of a mental weakness or aberration within a particular human persona and does not mean that the substances upon which the psychologically fraught person becomes fixated, or 'dependent'. are more or less or less 'addictive' than any other non-addictive substances. The substance per se does not induce Psychological dependence, rather the substances, the chocolate, or the anchovies, etc, is the 'innocent bystander' which becomes the object of a mentally sick person's attentions.

"For any legislation-framing administration to declare arbitrarily that one non-addictive substances is more prone to "induce" psychological dependence that any other non-addictive substance, and consequently prohibit that substance by law, demonstrates (whatever their motive) the failure by that administration, to acknowledge that in connexion with a physically non-addictive substance, categorically, no form of 'dependence' is, or can be, 'induced' by that substance. As found in the prohibition schedules, the misconception 'psychological dependence' incorrectly ascribes to cannabis, induced dependence, that is the cravings and fixation concomitant with the use of physically addictive drugs such as heroin, ,morphine, tobacco, alcohol, tranquillisers, amphetamines, etc. This represents the utmost bureaucratic ineptitude"

"It is empirically established and repeatedly confirmed by clinical studies that even frequent use of cannabis over prolonged or lifetime periods produces no mental, physical or social dysfunction. It is a fact that were cannabis to be the object of fixation of a psychologically disturbed person's fixation of dependence, the cannabis itself would do no harm to that individual. "

"It is very clear that it is a mere Prohibitionist's ploy, a rank deception, to introduce 'Psychological dependence' as a 'criterion' for prohibition regulations because the only non-addictive substance to which prohibition apply is ... cannabis. "

    FUN!
