Again, that would be your personality, not the drug itself. If it were the drug itself, EVERY user, including myself would be addicted. I'm not though.
Hell, I bet if you didn't smoke pot you would be an alcholic, chain smoker, or hard drug user. In a sense, pot has saved your life.
edit: Now that I think about it, I actually have a rather addicting personality myself. For instance, the other day I found an old acid washed denim jacket and decided it would be sweet if I altered it. Sooo I chopped off the arms, put like 50 studs on it (oi oi oi), and suddenly find myself with a $100+ bill for more studs and patches to complete my vest, not out of desire to finish it, but moreso because I'm addicted to doing such things. Hell my leather jacket has over 2000 studs in it.
Felt the need to throw this in, a verse from a song I wrote...
'Cause were the kids and we dont give a fuck.
We don't have to try to push our luck.
Were having fun doing what we do.
And we wont stop to the likes of you!

I could deliniate a very extensive list if I so chose but I have many reasons to be prejudiced against smoking pot besides "ONLY LI:STEeNINGS TOTHOSE BaDGUYZ SPREADFNGING LIESZ".People like you have probably never had a thought in your mind that wasn't implanted by your parents or teachers.

What it's saying is that dopamine is part of your body's "reward system." Pretty much every time you feel happy, your body is releasing extra dopamine. This means that ANYTHING which makes you happy has this kind of effect.
That study is really quite bad, considering nobody's really arguing that getting high affects your dopamine, and it directly states that people are.
It gets better when you contradict yourself.
What your study shows is that pot has an indirect effect on current dopamine levels. This does not imply dependance in any way.Physical addiction is when a person's body actually becomes dependent on a particular substance (even smoking is physically addictive).
moving on
It shows that I can recognize when I have a problem, and I react, and that pot is not a problem for me.You giving up other drugs and being in denial about pot really have nothing todo with each other.
No, actually, I, personally, (holy commas batman) do not. And I've quit pot for months at a time simply to prove this to myself, for my own good.Your brain gets used to higher dopamine levels over time and you get the "I have to have it" feeling from that.
There are exceptions to every rule. Smoking pot is one. Refusing to sit at the back of the bus is another. Fucking little boys is not. Get it?You read that, instead of refuting my point, being that if you don't agree with the law, breaking it won't help the situations.
LOL because what people say in order to reduce their sentencing means ANYTHING whatsoever. And of course, if they were admitting to having been in posession of something which, at most, might get them 6 months' probation, they'd admit if they were doing stuff that would get them real time in jail, so of course they only smoke pot, right? Right...It was a computer store, he stole keyboard, mice, headphones. We even had a whole computer stolen at one point. I can assure you this is very real, I'm not joking when I say the kids we caught and pled down to get a reduced sentence admit they were using the money to buy weed. Why is this so hard for you to believe?
That's what you would do, not how you would feel. Let me give an example of an appropriate answer: Not good.Your question: Say someone found an unopened beer from when you did drink, and you went to jail and had to serve probation for it. How would you feel about that?
My answer: I would own up to my mistakes and do my best to avoid making the same mistake in the future.
That doesn't seem like dodging it to me? That's how I would feel if that had happened to me.
Drowziness, maybe. Lightheadedness, definately. Laziness is a freaking human trait, not a symptom.Yes, some drugs have this side effect. Again, why is this that hard to accept?
Sorry I've been in an exp pt most of this time and am in sky now. If you want me to quote studies and shit, you'll have to wait til I'm less busy. Meanwhile know that I'm a junior double majoring in psychology and politcal science. (Yes I'm a junior at 24, I started out in mechanical engineering and like I said I've been through some shit.) I'm responding with my knowledge from the field of study. Also Plow. My points are being made from credible soruces. In most cases I'm taking them out of articles and research done where the authors own opinion is to legalize the drug. On the other hand, your previous post is composed mostly of:
Just an example: My mother has worked at hospice for years. Long enough that she is actually the ceo of a company that makes software for hospices now. She's known and seen about thousands of people suffering massively and dealing with not only the side effects of a terminal ilness, and chemotherapy, but also the massive quantities of opiates and the side effects with them. She understands fully that many of these people could smoke a joint and feel a thousand times better. I'm pretty sure if there weren't such dramatic risks involved legally, I could get her to smoke with me now and then when I see her. That's just one example.Fact: The amount of smokers will not increase if you make it legal, nor will it decrease.
Anyway, none of this really has anything to do with the issue of rather or not pot should be legalized, except for the stealing thing, which is a ridiculous argument. Because people have used something as an excuse for stealing, it should not be made more readily available and affordable? What?! Time to ban cars, TVs, houses, anything and everything in the world basically, because somebody's stolen for just about everything I'm certain.

Youre 16 and have been smoking for 4 years, lol thats pretty fucking sad.
Hope your parents are proud of you, pot head.

I'm inclined to agree. Just because I dislike the drug laws, it's merely because of their unconstitutional nature. I also do not agree with the lack of acceptance that American culture is teeming with when dealing with certain subjects. I do not smoke, I've never been drunk, I don't abuse any substance, and I disdain using medications unless I'm in dire need of it. If anyone is going to judge others for using drugs recreationally it should be someone like me, right?Originally Posted by thestalkmore
You might think so, but it doesn't have to be that way. I understand that others do things that I would not, and that is certainly alright by me. Someone else using pot doesn't have any effect on me as long as its secondhand fumes aren't forced onto me. I'd rather see the user educated and responsible, using clean home grown leaves instead of having them deal with the corrupt drug trade, getting it laced with other substances, and geting put in jail for doing something relatively harmless and as an effect getting taught how to further deviate from the law. Yes, that was likely a run on sentence.
Anyway, there are side effects. It is addictive. It does cause tissue damage to your lungs and circulatory system. Yes, there are ways to make it safer, but even then there are negative side effects. Increasing the release of pheromones means you have less stored up, and as a result, can contribute to depression.
A true fix to feeling better is a good diet, healthy relationships, and excersize of some sort. Increase your rate of production of the chemicals in your brain rather then using drugs to release them all at once. There is absolutly no reason, though, that some drug usage should be such a horrible thing. In moderation, your health will not suffer and we all know that having an alcoholic beverage can be fun at a social gathering. Why not pot? You can ruin your life off of either one, but with a little responsibility, it'll ruin your life a lot less then our drug laws will if you're caught with it.
Eh, I come from a pretty broken family. Pot was a nice alternative to suicide back in the days of clinical depression.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX

Cornered in the alleyway, back street kids live for today
We're kinda weird to you,you can't stand anything we do
We have the right to choose,'cause were born to lose
We may be fucking sick,at least we know were free
My mind is not for rent, I won't listen to what you say
You better take a hard look, we are sick of your rules
By the ink on my skin, you can see that im the real thing
Up the fucking punx, our sound is fucking strong
PROUD TO BE PUNK! WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK!
PROUD TO BE PUNK! WOOOOAAAHH
PROUD TO BE PUNK! WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK!
PROUD TO BE PUNK! UP THE PUNKS!
You can put us down
You can call us names
Try to divide us
By trying to classify us
Call me many names
Tell me punk is dead
The more you try to bring us down
The stronger we will get

I'll make this quick because im late for work:
Yes, the same "indirect effect", or more accurately opioid receptor as heroin.First off, this study shows that there IS NO direct connection between pot and dopamine, there is an indirect effect.
You just pulled that out of your ass. No where in that post does it say anything remotely like that. What it's saying is that dopamine is part of your body's "reward system." Pretty much every time you feel happy, your body is releasing extra dopamine. This means that ANYTHING which makes you happy has this kind of effect.
Oh, let me clarify for you because you seem to lack a basic understanding. Dopamine levels is the main factor in addiction. Let me site a study on Nicotine. What your study shows is that pot has an indirect effect on current dopamine levels. This does not imply dependance in any way.
The addictive quality of nicotine is believed to be related to its effect on the neurotransmitter dopamine.
Here we show that the same concentration of nicotine achieved by smokers activates and desensitizes multiple nicotinic receptors thereby regulating the activity of mesolimbic dopamine neurons. Initial application of nicotine can increase the activity of the dopamine neurons, which could mediate the rewarding aspects of tobacco use.
Anything that unnaturally effects dopamine levels can create addiction. The more directly the drug effects dopamine production the higher the addictive properties are. That study proved that thc through the mu-1 opioid receptor will increase dopamine levels in the brain.
I'll restate it to be clear:
You said: This does not imply dependance in any way
That is a lie. Thats exactly what it implys.
I'm sorry when I posted the quote siting physical addiction with out clairifing that first.
And none of that has any relevance to my post. Honestly, I am glad to hear that you have a stable grip on drugs. They can really do damage to some people. It shows that I can recognize when I have a problem, and I react, and that pot is not a problem for me.
Again, Im glad to hear that. No, actually, I, personally, (holy commas batman) do not. And I've quit pot for months at a time simply to prove this to myself, for my own good.
Stop going back to the diffrences between the cases, thats not the point of my post. Please read past the child molestation and stop tapdancing around my point. Do you feel that you should not be held accountable for breaking that law? You have yet to answer this even tho it was the basis for the statement 2 posts ago. Do you honestly believe that breaking the law while doing nothing to change it will prove anything? Again, your dodging any real answers. There are exceptions to every rule. Smoking pot is one. Refusing to sit at the back of the bus is another. Fucking little boys is not. Get it?
They wern't required by law to say what they intended to use the money for. They didn't say they had any drugs in their possesion, so they could of said they were using it to buy crack and It wouldn't of effected the sentance. Where I live (Seattle) and where I worked (Computer shop) kids would steal from us for pot. Most of the kids would be regulars and on good terms with me. I would ask kids who were hotboxing their car to take it to the parcking lot over. I didn't even care if they came into the store blazed off their ass.LOL because what people say in order to reduce their sentencing means ANYTHING whatsoever. And of course, if they were admitting to having been in posession of something which, at most, might get them 6 months' probation, they'd admit if they were doing stuff that would get them real time in jail, so of course they only smoke pot, right? Right...
You have not right to tell me what they were using the money for. Some of the kids I had known for over 2 years. I know what drugs they used because it wasn't a secret. One of my employees smoked alot himself. Out of the 30 or so kids that we had kicked out/pressed charges against I can say with a strict certainty that the majority were using the money to buy weed. Stop acting like you know people wouldn't steal money for weed. It happend, it happens and it will happen again.
Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise that my feeling on a hypothetical situation had any relevance what-so ever. But if your intested I would be embarrassed. That's what you would do, not how you would feel. Let me give an example of an appropriate answer: Not good.
Yes, and its impossible that a human trait would be provoke by a drug.Drowziness, maybe. Lightheadedness, definately. Laziness is a freaking human trait, not a symptom.
No shit? I also major in psychology at the UW. One of the top 5(?) in the US for psychology research. But I find it hard to believe that you major in psychology and have trouble understanding basic effects of unnatural dopamine production. Anyways, you might want to brush up.Sorry I've been in an exp pt most of this time and am in sky now. If you want me to quote studies and shit, you'll have to wait til I'm less busy. If you can point out something that you said that wasn't:
A) Baseless opinions
B) Things I'v pointed out to be wrong (and backing that up with facts)
C) Yelling for no apparent reason
I'll give you a cookie. Untill then I'm done with our little rant because you have started resorting to blatant lying to get your point across.
Edit: sorry for spelling mistakes, no time to proofread.
Did you even read what you posted? Let me refresh your memory:Yes, the same "indirect effect", or more accurately opioid receptor as heroin.
It is NOT the same effect despite using the one of the receptors. If your study were worth a shit, it would go into the differences in usage by the receptors, but you're just pulling up one patheticly written argument attempting to claim pot is addictive, yet constantly contradicting itself. Therefore, among the most controversial addictive drugs, cocaine and amphetamine, which are dopaminergic stimulant, have direct access to the increase of dopamine. Opioids, such as heroin, utilize a more indirect route through the mu-1 receptor. And cannabinoids are the least direct in their action (Tanda et al. 1997).
You just pulled that out of your ass. No where in that post does it say anything remotely like that.Hello, basis of your entire damn argument.Dopamine is believed to be a neurotransmitter associated with the brain reward system, which is responsible for pleasure sensations. An integral part of this system is the mesolimbic pathway in which the nucleus accumbens of the limbic system produce dopamine.
Hey, I have an idea, why don't you talk about what you just denied talking about some more?
Awesome.Initial application of nicotine can increase the activity of the dopamine neurons, which could mediate the rewarding aspects of tobacco use.
Your dog licking your damn toe while you sleep can increase dopamine levels in the brain. Does that mean you're going to get addicted?Anything that unnaturally effects dopamine levels can create addiction. The more directly the drug effects dopamine production the higher the addictive properties are. That study proved that thc through the mu-1 opioid receptor will increase dopamine levels in the brain.
Hey, remember when you said,And none of that has any relevance to my post. Honestly, I am glad to hear that you have a stable grip on drugs. They can really do damage to some people.I do... and guess what? I don't get that feeling.Your brain gets used to higher dopamine levels over time and you get the "I have to have it" feeling from that.
Fucking DUH? No, I do not believe I should be punished for smoking pot. Period. And who the hell said I don't do anything to try to change it? Am I not right this very moment attempting to help people see and understand what the problem is with the laws... get over yourself dude.Stop going back to the diffrences between the cases, thats not the point of my post.
PEOPLE STEAL. PEOPLE WILL STEAL IF POT IS ILLEGAL, AND PEOPLE WILL STEAL IF POT IS LEGAL. If pot were legal, and therefore much more easily affordible, less people would steal it, or steal for it. DUH?!some bullshit about people stealing
My parents have known me for 24 years. They know a whole lot about what I've done, but they sure as hell don't know everything. I promise you, you do not know everything those kids have experimented with, or even do on a regular basis.
Seeing how it was the question in the first place, thanks for finally answering.Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise that my feeling on a hypothetical situation had any relevance what-so ever. But if your intested I would be embarrassed.
I haven't lied about a single thing. Point out one single lie in anything I've posted.Untill then I'm done with our little rant because you have started resorting to blatant lying to get your point across.
When you resort to calling people liars baselessly and say you're backing out of the discussion because of it, you're admitting you're wrong.
Let me clarify further, it's really quite simple.
A psychological addiction is to the pleasurable feelings, positive reinforcement if you will.
A physical addiction is the positive punishment of the negative effects felt when an addict is without something like heroin.
I'm going to let you make your own mistake in response to this without pointing it out, because if you do it will prove that you actually know jack shit about what you're talking about. We'll see if you do.
And this happens actually more often than you'd think. Perhaps it's just being naive, but I've learned that there's a balance to everything with whatever occurances happen. Granted I wouldn't find it particularly pleasant, but there is a balance in there somewhere, even if it takes a bit to find.Originally Posted by Okan
