Decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana, what do you think?

Ok, I'll toss down a real reason:

I, and I'm sure every non-smoker, doesn't want to walk down the street smelling weed everywhere I go. It has a very strong odor, much stronger than those of cigarettes.

I kinda like the smell of cigarettes... and gasoline too for some reason.

But I also know that although the scent of weed may smell bad to some, cigarettes are actually killing you when you smell them.

Meh I'm one of the rare non-pot smokers who isn't against legalization. I say "non-pot smokers" but thats only because I gave it up 13 years ago, as well as alcohol. Not a puff or a drink in all that time... But I'll be honest: The thing I miss the most from the good ol' party days isn't the ecstasy, or the acid, or the booze, or definitely not the 'cane. It's the weed. I won't even pretend to speak for anyone else here, but I most certainly had a problem with it (all drugs). It may not be that way for others here. Hell I know people who do it and don't have issues. One guy I know has had the same damn bag of weed for a month. I'd have hit that up in a weekend back in the day lol. I didn't come from a broken home, my father never drank or did drugs. He never gave me the impression it was OK to do those things. I was just the type of personality to engage in spur of the moment behavior. During the period when I was using the heaviest, my stepmom was dying of cancer and I used weed and partying as a crutch, pretty much. That's not an excuse of course, just me being honest with you guys. I know being honest around here will get you flamed but I don't really give a shit. I've come to the conclusion after all this time that weed > beer in terms of abuse. Some people will go too far and others won't, and the fact that there is a law against weed won't deter people who are inclined to enjoy that type of thing. Plus I'm for letting out of jail the dude who had a roach in his ashtray and throwing into jail the fucker who just got his 4th DUI. In fairness, I've enjoyed life without drugs waaaay more than with them. But its not my place to tell Hirro or anyone else to stop. If Hirro wants to blow a joint in the privacy of his own crib, thats his fucking business. Just keep going to work and paying taxes Hirro One thing you'll never catch me doing is apologizing for playing video games. I know dumbasses who blow 200-300 bucks a week on dope or going to the strip clubs. And I'm supposed to, according to them, "get a life" lol. Hell I don't even play FFXI for the game anymore. I just play because I enjoy the people (most of them).

It would be easy tax money for the government. Legalizeing would also start up some new (huge) companies in the growing/selling weed. That could overall help our economy in more ways then one. Lets not forget the bullshit "War on Drugs". Hundreds of violent criminals are walking away while the government is thinking of ways to keep this harmless drug from the public. We would gain jail space and police man power.

It's not addictive (regardless of what you think). Cigarettes and Alcohol are far more dangerous drugs to use then weed. There a normous medical advantages that havent been researched yet.

Not to mention, it could arguably be considerd the cure for anorexia.

The reason to legalize it would be to stop the problems with it, in order to argue to a person who isagainst smoking weed, you need to view it like that. But for one, our government is stupid (or smart) and there's no money in it for anyone if we can simply remedy the war on drugs with legalization. All of the people who build such strong campaigns, arguments or pleas on the fight against drugs would be lost; all the money we say is going somewhere would soon need another excuse. Furthermore the drugs themselves would lose value; the uncaught dealers now would be out a large income. Neither side wants this as we look at the almighty dollar before anything else.

Not to mention, if it were legal, it'd take the "rebel" motivation out of doing it; half the motivating factor of young, stupid people is being told they can't do something. Look at other nations where anyone can drink whenever; look at how well our stupid attempt at making alcohol illegal went, lol. It's more or less the same thing except we never grew used to the environment where marijuana was legal, but if we did, going back to the stupidity we're in now wouldn't work so well. Make drugs legal and a lot of kids lose what is "special" to them about what they're doing, that is breaking the law, or doing something that society is supposed to frown upon. They don't have to value their doing something they -shouldn't- be because it's now legal. Sure, legalize marijuana and you'll have an initial rush of crazy pot consumption, but after that, it'd be just another relatively commonly purchased product.

That being said, I smoke it myself, so I'm just a stupid pothead.
