is there anyway to make ffxi look better on pc ?

somebody made a post a long time ago with a program or somethin u could run ffxi and make it look alot more smoother and shiny but i cant seem to find the topic , can any1 help out X ? i already tried some regedit change resolution thing , i can notice the difference but i seen better somewhere around here heh XD. maybe some examples of how the game looks on other's pc's will help me point out what i seen before lol.

START » Run... » type Regedit » go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE » PLayOnlineUS » SquareEnix » FinalFantasyXI

There you will find a list of files named from 0001 to 0032. 0001 and 0002 are the "configuration file" for the ForeGround Resolution (you can see at what resolution you are currently usin FFXI on the right).

To pump your BackGround Resolution you have to change the files 0003 and 0004. Usually by POLOptions you set it up to 1024x1024 only. Just press twice on 0003 and 0004, select "Decimal" and set the new resolution as 1280x1280 (VT computer needed), 1600x1600 (VT computer needed) or 2048x2048 (IT computer needed).

I usually play with 1600x1600 background and have lag only when there is lot of ppl around me (like dynamis or Lower Jeuno AH). Remember to do this operation when you are not logged in FFXI.

If that doesn't work, get new processor/board/RAM/video card

My advice if you want to make your game look better, try zooming in. I'm serious, a little zoom in makes everything more detailed and more enjoyable. Matter of fact, when I zoom in during Dynamis my lag lowers for some reason too. lol

Possibly because you see less characters and stuff around you, so it has to load less models and effects.

And yeah zooming in makes it looks 5x better, if not more, so I do that for most of my screens now.

If this is a serious post, i'll tell you what I did recently, and im getting much much better Fps.

Game resolution, what is it 1024x768 ? Well that's mine, however in the registry, change the background resolution to higher than what yours is, and it has to multiply by itself (mine is 1280x1280 ). I say in registry, because the FFXI config only has 256x256, 600x600(i think), and 1024x1024, registry lets you do what you like. Also turn on mipmapping, helps.

After doing those, even using firaga3 on an orc train in davoi didnt lag me. Dynamis no longer lags me(as much) with environments on. This game just needs few little tweaks and you notice alot of smoothness going on .
