What the freaking hell is the purpose of the byzantine rules, restrictions, and caveats that make up Square's billing system, anyway? Your characters are deleted after the account is inactive for 3 months. You can delete them, which means they're gone forever, unless it's been at least 90 days, or there's a special event on, but not if you've deleted it once before already. If your account is inactive for 12 months then the whole account is deleted and the only way to play the game ever again is to go to the store and buy another box.

Seriously, what the hell? I can see having inconvenient rules if it makes things easier for the company (though that would still be lame), but I don't know how any of these restrictions make anyone's life easier... be it the customer or Square themselves. You can't attribute it to laziness (they're creating more work for themselves by having to deal with all this crap), nor can you attribute it to greed (they're effectively turning away past customers who would like nothing more than to give them money). It just boggles the mind.

I know I should have come to terms with this kind of thing a long time ago, having played FFXI for this long, but this billing system is above and beyond any of the other messed-up stuff Square has done. MMORPGs are a newish thing, but billing for a service isn't. How could this have happened?

JPs can get their accounts back no matter how many times they delete them. NAs get a max of 2 deletes. So yeah... don't fucking delete your character lol. Really there is no reason why SE should not be able to keep your character forever, but rules are rules.

Last year if I remember right, they did this just before Server hop. So....

ROFL I was joking ass.. of course they have the same rules as us for character deletion and I am sure others actually got the shitty joke.

I have no clue, but I did know some JPs who got their names changed by a GM... Raitei to Darkprince was one.
