found a great vid of 'When' for you.

Yeah if you're interested in Opeth Blackwater Park is their most listener accessible album, but I personally love Still Life (that'd be my favorite Opeth album). I'd say nab those two.

I've seen Opeth live four times and they've never played 'When' for us. ;_; They did however play 'Serenity Painted Death' for the first time ever live the second time I saw them. <3

    When I saw Opeth live in November we got;

    Ghost Of Perdition
    When
    White Cluster
    Closure
    Bleak
    The Grand Conjuration
    Under The Weeping Moon
    Baying Of The Hounds
    Deliverance
    Demon of the Fall

Fucking good set list if I do say so myself. I went and saw Turisas tonight, a group we've spoken about here before, and holy fucking shit they were amazing. THEY PLAYED SLAYER'S RAINING BLOOD ON A FUCKING ACCORDION and then the violinist played Iron Maiden's Wicker Man solo lol.

Yeah Opeth is definitely a Death Metal band that displays creativity and versatility. I have Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and Still Life and enjoy all of them lol. Interesting to play on guitar, but you need more than a few guitar tracks to be mixed to make it sound totally correct or you do not get the full effect of their music.

If you guys are into more straight up technical death, check out Psycroptic's "The Scepter Of The Ancients". Their new album isn't quit as good as this one due to the new vocalist. If you listen to this album you'll understand why their old vocalist was irreplaceable .

Cool I need new inspirational listening material... a friend of mine is trying to convince me to start a band with him.. and all he wants is to do Meshuggah type polyrhythmic stuff.. which is nice, but as a guitarist it is technically lacking. Faking people into thinking I am playing different time signatures is technical to a drummer like him.. but as a guitarist it is just 3/4 with irregular rhythmic patterns.

Don't forget to play like Meshuggah you need to tune so low your strings hang off the neck.

Nah I have a 7 string and 6 string so I am fine. He is all about detuning the 7 string.. dropped more than a full step lol.. its fucking lame. I am more about the old school death metal myself. Fuck some of the shit he listens to is too much hardcore influenced. His lower top string tuning is lame because it basically makes fast pedaling riffing easier, but makes some of the more technical non-generic modes/scales sound like dog shit. I will not bend or comprimise to his shitty rudiment heavy tastes.

If you like old death metal I think you'll really like Psycroptic. You should also check out Wormed and Devourment if you are into brutal death.

I meet so many people like this and I completely agree. Most stuff I write is in B standard with a 6 string, pretty fun tuning and sounds great I really hate floppy strings and drop tuning (especially dropping so you can chord with one finger, that's just lazygay, and yes it totally kills some scales and sounds).

that must've been a great fucking show.

Of all the things I have to say about suffocation I'll say one thing first; their sound man is amazing.

Yeah he was pretty good... the worst soundman I ever heard was the guy who did sound for Incantation.. damn... he made them sound even shittier than I thought they would. I do not even like that band.. but that soundman should have been shot. It was like they fed diarrhea through a speaker.

I'm suprised I didn't think of this yesterday when we were talking about frontmen who sing and play the guitar at the same time. One of the very best by far is Muhammed Suiçmez of Necrophagist. He's on lead guitar as well as vocals.

What exactly do you guys think of Meshuggah? I got into them as a joke (the joke was me and my real life friend would randomly scream MESHUGGAH at each other to emulate the retards on blabbermouth) but I really love the rythems and uneasy sound they produce. I was looking at my mp3 player today and it tells me Catch 33 is the most played album on it. I quite like Chaosphere too but the way they keep the same melody going throughout Catch 33 wins it for me.

I think "Destroy Erase Improve" is by far their best. Although the video for "New Millenium Cyanide Christ" is better than anything on earth. "Nothing" was total shit and I haven't heard "Catch 33".
