I don't consider using DoT spells and kiting to be soloing, I think that is cheating. But that's just my opinion.Originally Posted by nivlakian

I see rdm/nin's solo the firedrakes in B01 all the time.Originally Posted by Septimus
Mix of their 2-3 highest dmg spells mixed in with a touch of gravity and a sprinkle of bind/sleep. /nin is just for reliable shadows.
Give the HNM a massive range AOE hate reset move that does silence, max MP down and gravity.Originally Posted by aurik
Then how exactly would you do it? Surely you don't have the means to straight up fight it without outside help.Originally Posted by Septimus
People will resort to BPing only every 1:30, and then running way out of range to rest. Echo drops + remedy + erase if you get hit with the AoE. Not that he'd be using it much, since smn BP give 0 TP.Originally Posted by Eternus
Keywords: Duelist and Fencer. That imo implies melee. No way in hell can RDM solo melee serious HNM and/or monster to be considered overpowered is my point.
Ok, so I did solo Bloodthirster as RDM/NIN, but going against something that puts detrimental effects on you, such as Paralyze and Blind, wouldn't be wise choice for any RDM.
K nerf SMN.. damn SE lol. Can anyone think up anything a possible HNM could use to make it worthless for SMN to use BP burn on? On Ifrit I got damn sick of seeing the SMNAssociation farm the CoP wyrms....
In a matter of 2 hours I've seen you ask for NIN RDM and SMN nerfs. I'm becoming concerned.
Hmm, I think it'd maybe have to be a mob with damage caps on it similar to the Golem in Dynamis-Qufim. Something that takes 0 magical damage and capped at some number for physical damage. In that case you'd have to rely on DoT jobs to kill it.Originally Posted by Eternus
That's all I can think of at the moment and it's probably not well thought out.
haha I do not necessarily want them to be nerfed, but if you can't design a NM to make it so someone can't use 18 of a particular job on it.. then you have a problem. RDM and NIN are strong, but require more skill to be considered to be overpowered than a SMN does. SMNburning things is just lame, plain and simple. The only time you will see 18 of any other job take something as powerful as a CoP wyrm is maybe BLMs... which really has been discussed as well.Originally Posted by Ish
I take back the RDM and NIN shit I guess... if you nerf them you would hurt the game overall. There just has to be a way to stop people from using 18 SMN to kill everything in the game.
That's my point, there is no way for a RDM to fight Ullikummi straight on.Originally Posted by Charitwo
But you could do the same thing with BLM or DRK who sub NIN that have movement and refresh gear with Bio II, or even a NIN with Dokumori.
There is a very simple way. Give mobs constant TP gain so that alliances won't get their asses kicked by TP moves when you have 12-14 people swinging weapons at it.Originally Posted by Eternus
SMN bloodpacts are hate free and awesome, but not tp free (all lvl70 ones especially are physical ones). Only thing I know that causes dmg and is tp free is chiblast.
There are some hNMs where tons of monks can be used strategically, for example on ug.pendant mob, he spams death which is not stunnable etc, but multiple monks hasted or hundred fisting or both will interrupt all its spells including any and all death spells.
The new 18man avatar battles are also really melee friendly and blms are kinda useless. The elementals that accompany the avatars there are really weak to melee (way waay different than normal elementals), and avatars themselves, especially in the final carbunclex5 fight are almost completely resistant to magic and really weak to melee.
MNK can solo ulli np but very slowly. All you do is run around in circle boosting and then chiblast for 1k+ every 3min. As you can imagine this being the only dmg takes quite a while. Ulli walks slowly even without gravity (same as you basically, not faster) and is not very smart so he stops to cast weak spells like diaga and banishga, so he never catches up to you. You have to pay attention not to pass him in circle so he doesn't get you in the opposite direction though. Osode light+50 helps, /whm or /nin are both ok too, different tradeoffs. Chakra for instant 320 hp or so every 5 min to compensate for dmg from all the spells.
Yeah I was talking about a worthwhile HNM.. ugg pendant NM is cool and all but it drops something just for BLM. The new avatar battles kinda suck (nothing important dropwise) and SMN can own them too lol... Hell SMNs could beat Ugg pendant NM also.
I don't think SMN Lv70 BP give TP, but I don't remember exactly atm. Someone else can post on that.Originally Posted by genome
The spells aren't necessarily interrupted because he is being hit. For that particular NM, if he switches hate during cast, it will say the spell was interrupted. You can see it occur if you properly bounce hate and time spells between 2 BLMs.Originally Posted by Genome
BLM do fine against the avatars and elementals in those BCs. They also do fine against the avatars in the Carby BC. It's only carbuncle himself that heavily resists magic. You can pretty much instantly burn the summoned avatars to the ground with BLM.Originally Posted by Genome
I had blms in PT a few of the times i did it, and even summoners tried from time to time to use magic BPs, they really did not do much to avatars, carbuncle didn't seem to be the only one resistant to magic.
If they had normal elementals etc instead of these special ones weak to melee then you would need blms, but really you could do these fine, even with a normal alliance, definitely without any blms, perhaps even without smns.
In terms of reward, at least for mnk Carbuncle's pole is pretty awesome, I use mine a lot over kirin etc for things like full swing or spirit taker.
For interruption when hate is changed, it doesn't work that way for normal spells, perhaps death is a special case, the only one i ever heard that is an exception though, but any other spell like burst etc, you can see it doesn't get interrupted ever even if hate obviously was switched (e.g., bard pulls a skeleton mage, monks voke it, if bard doesn't run out of range, he still gets bursted).
Still very sure smn bloodpact gives mob tp. You can test the usual way with bst charming a mob after bloodpact and then checking with <pettp>
The interruption thing does not work on normal mobs, I said for that particular NM it does.
Edit:
Also, here's some pics from the 18man avatar bcs.

That's not good damage?
As someone who used to farm those pendants before some jews undercut it to shit, let me assure you that interrupting Culberry's magic is not done via stun or by hard melee shots.Originally Posted by genome
Though it seems that nivlikan allready told you how the interrupt works.
LV70 BP give no mob TP. SMN that Assault -> BP should be shot in the face repeatedly.
NIN's movement gear is only at night and that won't be enough, actually one of the few jobs that probably COULDN'T do it that way. If you're going to count something as weak as ninja poison then any job with +movement can do it, WHM/NIN with herald's gaiters and Dia, MNK/NIN with herald's gaiters and chi blast, BRD/NIN with herald's gaiters and elegy, DRG/NIN with crimson and jump, THF/NIN with boots and darts etc.Originally Posted by Septimus
