I was going to post this a few weeks ago, but I assumed that everyone already knew.

I've been able to positively confirm that ToAU (at least in it's initial shipment) will be DVD-ROM only ... there will be no CD-ROM version. That's not to say that with enough bitching and wining they won't release a CD-ROM version later, but right now there are no plans for it.

This may hurt the sales of the expansion in the first 2 weeks, but really it's a smart move.

All they are doing for us who are crack addicted to this game, is making us get out of the past and getting a fking DVD drive.

Anyway i've had my DVD Drive for ages now, wont be a problem, but I will need to download the ISO's. Geno, hook me up woman!

Honestly... what kind of person doesn't have a DVD drive yet? I'm suprised you could buy a computer that can run FFXI yet doesn't come with a DVD drive...

More companies need to do this (and they are starting to). Force people to get DVD-ROM drives so the rest of us don't have to deal with multi-CD installs anymore.

You can probably find a used 4x DVD-ROM somewhere, I have 2 DVD-ROM drives in my closet collecting dust that are probably worth $5 each.

Both of the Game Stops in my area are saying they might get it the 18th, but more than likely it will be the 19th. ~_~

I think it absolutely sucks how Square-Enix isn't shipping this on floppy disks. CD-ROM drives are way too expensive, what are they thinking?!

I heared it was just being shipped to USA on that day and not sold, that way both countries get it at once.

Wafik's prolly right, considering distribution times I'd imagine most NA players will get it around the same time as JP players do.

Doesn't matter when you get the box, servers are gonna be virtually unplayable due to "DoS attacks" (aka 500k people hitting their patch distribution system) for a few days.

Games hit the stores waay before their release dates but the stores aren't allowed to sell them till the set date. I've had it happen when I've gotten games 3-4 days before releases when I buy them online just cause they don't care when the release date is.

But I guess it could be different in other countries, I live in Sweden.

Let's see, moving to another state within two months, can justify $30, can't justify $300. GGSE!

Only reason I'm keeping the preorder is because the guy at Gamestop plays on Carbuncle and he rocked.

Stop being so fucking helpless. And learn a lesson about relying on 12-year-old technology in such a rapidly-advancing market.

Anyway, you can install using the dvd-rom drive in one computer directly to the other computer by sharing the drive across your local network, and then running the setup program across the wire. Alternatively you can install on your shitty computer and just xcopy the expansion data across the network.

A crossover cable is five bucks and solves your problem of not having a hub or switch. If you're using a cable or ADSL modem and it's directly connected to your computer, then you can just use that ethernet cable -- it's a crossover, guaranteed.

Then quit the game, since you're so intent on being helpless. Obviously you can't afford it, either.

Here's a few of the hundreds of things you could do to solve your problem:
    1) borrow a crossover cable and/or hub from a friend and install over the network
    2) move your HD to your old computer and
    3) download the ISO, duh
    4) get a friend to install it to your HD
    5) get a friend to burn the iso onto multiple CDs

"Help, they no longer release my favourite music albums on cassette tapes "
    Suck it up and deal.

Lmao, SE is "asinine" for lowering production cost and allowing easier install, k.

I don't know what your getting at, that players of this game are all little kids who leech off other people, but you sir need to lay off the crackpipe! I, as well as many other people I know work, school, live away from home, and still haijin this game the fuck up real good.

And yeah dude, you can share drive roots with a ethernet cable, and if your boxes don't have broadband modems.... /fail..

So is anyone planning on making an ISO for this?

I'd rather get the ps2 version and just download the ISO for comp.
