Its a failed logical arguement. Unless you sold your account for a few thousand dollars to pay tuition, THAT is a justified excuse because the percentage of what the account sold is a large enough sum of the tuition bill. But if you sold your account for a few hundred and tuition is +40k its merely a drop in the bucket and not a good excuse to attach to a reason to sell your account. Logical reasoning.

Now there are holes everywhere. Say you had to sell your account because you had to pay tuition and it was the only way to save $15 a month plus the ammount for the account would really help above all other things, like you're only $43,500 of $44,000 covered. That would be a decent arguement

If you were like me and just wanted to sell your account to get back something from what you put in and to move on with your life from the game, thats another story in and of itself.

Now that I read that your mom lost her job. That is too bad, I had a parent lose a job for a long time going from a combined income of +$100k to $25k is a real kick in the pants. All that teaches you is to not live beyond your means and save money for the unexpected.

actually, alot of top tier schools are inching towards the 50k mark...the annual increase in tuition is something like 5-6%. I know I started at 40k my freshman year and by my senior year, it was over 45k.

Hot tip: go public school unless you get a full ride.

I go to WPI (Worchester Polytechnic Instititue) and thats 41k a year. Next year they're raising it to 46k.

Generally, unless you plan to stop at BA/BS level, a well known public school will get you the same level of education for far less money. When it's time to get accepted into a graduate program what you have written, your GRE and subject exam scores, and your letters of recomendation are infinitely more important compared to where you went for your undergrad.

Now if it's free, who the hell cares.

while im completely agree that there are many areas in which a public school will offer the same education as an accredited private university there are, however, some areas in which some private universities excell in.

for example, undergraduate harvard education is way, way, way overrated. you would think with a reputation like harvards that curriculum would be one of the more rigorous but thats not the case. harvard is ranked 1 or2 depending on the list but there are a ton of kids from my school (27th on the list or something) that take harvard summer classes because they are easier (pre-med requirement classes). still, harvard's grad schools are top noch.

then there are schools like MIT and CIT, which imo no school can touch, however they are special cases because the undergraduate experience is heavily geared towards research and whatnot. technology instituations are different altogether but those two off the top of my head even more so.

then there are state schools like UMass, which for stuff like some areas of engineering and education are really good, but for pre-med are not as great as high tiered schools. my cousin also goes to Tufts and took bio, physics, and chem all here and worked her ass off for a C+ average (she was first in her high school class out of thousands) then took orgo at umass and almost effortlessly got As. i understand thats just one situation.

what it all boils down to is each school is different, and there are some areas where the expensive schools deliver more than the public schools, but most areas its the same. but then again, the name playsa big role. if two A students, one from yale and the other from a state/public school, apply for the same job with the same credentials (hypothetical of course) then 99/100 times the yale student will get picked just because of the prestige associated with the school.
