Knowing physics doesn't make you throw a ball with accuracy

You can just calculate the speed you need to throw it at and stuff, then just make a backwards formula from the ball hitting the backboard or falling at the right angle into the hoop. It'd take awhile but you just work backwards from the ball going in. It's possible I'm sure.

Yeah I was thinking this too, but I'm sure with practice and a photogate you can learn to control the speed at which you throw something.

That's because he was the only person at the time to realize that all objects have energy by the fact that they have mass, and he was the only one to understand that Newtonian physics is no good, especially at the speed he was able to move and shoot the ball. E=mc^2 rocks!


Also, angles is more geometry than physics, and calculating the trajectory of a ball even with a certain initial speed is by no means easy. You have to account for gravity, the rotational inertia of the ball, air drag on the ball, and the amount of energy lost when the ball hits something. The last thing would involve careful measurements of the ball to find the coefficient of restitution. Albeit some of these factors are small, but over great distances and added up they can easily change the trajectory of the ball enough to miss a basket.
