Yeah, most seem to just assume it works the same way Elemental skill does. I guess I did too until I aspired 160+ like 6 times in a row in Dynamis one night lol
    lol same here.

if you filter your party's misses, then you wont see their resists.

miss = resist. also, for example, thunder4 on sky golem for 500 = miss.

Diabolos' Pole? I don't have it, and I most likely won't get it. Alot of BLM's, like Mingto, told me the pole is useless.

I've heard Pluto's is better on almost every case. I guess it's like a free Dark Staff.

I got the RDM JSE, used Magic ACC gear with all my macros, didn't like it, went back to Af Body and Af Head for enfeebles. This was a while ago, but I hardly get resisted now. Maybe Magic Acc. better if you use NQ Staff?

Ive heard the same thing. I ended up getting the earring over the pole since I already have Pluto's, plus no HMP on Diabolos pole. That thing looks like a wasted inventory spot tbh.

In my experience, it seems to me that Aspir has a cap of 120. I base this on the highest aspirs I ever see outside of weather/day effects is the number 138 with a Pluto's staff from myself or other BLMs. 120 x 1.15 = 138. I use AF1 pants, Abyssal, Dark Torque and AF2 gloves which I agree allows for more consistantly gaining the higher end of what aspir can do.

In dynamis, with the double weather bonus always available to those who take advantage of Anrin obi, I would guess the highest you could get is 138 x 1.2 = 165-166.

A blm in our linkshell has been messing with magic acc. vs magic skill + for a while now and has not noticed any difference.

What septimus said makes a lot of sense though, but iono if it's true.

Only game i've played where magic missed was in ragnarok .
Nothing like seeing 5 fire bolts miss in a row.

How do people get 400+ Aspir's then? (i have seen 300+ many many times, not from me since i'm always rdm/nin puller)

I have hit 140 outside of dynamis more than once, I tend to believe there is no cap at all. And that more skill seems to = more damage/MP/HP drained. Otherwise I would think dumb luck would have allowed me to aspir 160 in dynamis and 140 outside of dynamis BEFORE adding all the skill gear, but my max numbers have gone up since adding skill gear, not just the consistency.

I think you mean drain? I've never seen aspir do anything more than 138 (not counting weather/day etc).

Only read first 6 posts or so, but imo magic accuracy is to spells as accuracy is to melee hits, skill will always be more potent (like how +7evasion skill >>> +7 evasion). Skill has a more direct effect of hit/spell landing, and the magic/ accuracy is secondary (not helping as much), if you ask me go for +skill over +accuracy in a slot if theres a conflict.

Are you sure it wasn't darksday? I always aspir with 269+37 skill and the number 138 comes up very often and nothing more than it. The same happens to other BLMs that I see use aspir.

My dark skill isn't fully capped yet (hit 75 not too long ago and skillups are slow), however, I've Aspired for over 138 in Lufaise burn many times.

Magic accuracy is a joke. I really want to believe it causes less resists for me but I can't tell at all. I macro them in for black magic accuracy on my RDM (Chasuble, Wise Braconi) and don't notice an improvement over Errant Body/Legs on high level mobs/NMs that matter... not only that but nukes do a lot less damage due to no large INT bonuses. If INT boosts black magic accuracy already, there is no friggin point to using RDM JSE over godly Errant... /cry

RDM JSE should have Enhance "Refresh" effect or something instead of RANGED ACCURACY+ ahlsdfasdfdhlfldfk

    What a joooooke D:<

I'm going to have to back Niv up here. Ever since he pointed it out to me, I've never aspired more than 138 when there wasn't darksday or dark weather present, and that's with 312 dark magic skill and 123 INT with the gear i use for aspir + food. Lufaise gets dark weather, and every zone gets darksday, so if your aspir was higher than 138, that's probably why.

Long ago someone with Wise Gear did some tests versus various gear set ups trying to balance skill versus accuracy while keeping other stats the same. I can't remember if it was posted on Allakazham or Vault though.

But yeah, the conclusion was it is better to have the raw skill if you can get it in that slot.

I got over 400 drain (on BLM) a couple of times. Just the other day i got like 340(maybe more) on a bird in Lufaise Meadows. I have the RDM JSE full +1 and when i switch from Chasuble +1 to AF body i dont notice the difference. One thing i did notice was in a exp party with all rdm jse on every magic burst i got the same number just about for the whole time. Then i switched to errant gear and caught a couple resist this was at uli camp.. Its so hard to test out gear when most RDMS dont have a problem enfeebling anything in the game.
