I've won Mamool Ja with 3 people twice (2/2)

You'll notice on the map 6 "bulbs" in the southeast.
Label them clockwise starting with the top-left:
    1 2 3
    6 5 4

There are closed gates at 6, 4, and 2. There are about 5 "Warden"s without weapons patrolling the area. There's also a weapon-equipped Mamool in 5 (bst with lizard pet), 1 (whm) and 3 (whm).

I recommend a movement pattern of #6, pulling the mob from #5, then up to #2, pulling the mobs from #1 and #3.

Kill off the ninjas as fast as possible. Pull the weapon-equipped Mamools to one of the closed gates. Attack it and give it lots of TP. When it starts using a weaponskill, have your tank run out of the way (I hear that switching equipment works too but we didn't try it) and it will hit the gate. Once it hits 20% TP, if it has not broken down the gate, switch to warp cudgels or other low damage weapons to spam it full of TP. For sure "staff throw" / "axe throw" works; people have also reported Firespit to work after the gate takes 3-4 spits.

If you run out of Mamools, pull more from the pit to the west.

It is possible that the NPC is not behind your first smashed gate. If that happens, just move onto the next.

The finish point / chest pops between 3 and 4. End box for us has been a ???Ring both times.

lol I knew the basics, but that is helpful info. Anyway, we won on 60 cap. Changing equip seemed to work(on fireball) and the monsters kept on losing its weapon for no reason. Not sure if this is strictly for 60 cap, but we didn't get a ??? item, just two Hi-Potion tanks, Hi-Potion+2, and Reraiser.

After trying to decypher that guys post for a while while we were doing the Assault, I think we may have figured it out.

When Excaliace originally starts running he moves towards the end. If at any point you get too far away he'll speed off back toward the entrance. Once you get him running stay pretty close to him until he stops. Once he stops back off a bit and let him run again, he'll continue toward the end as long as you stay close enough to him.

When he encounters monsters, he'll take off the other way back to the beginning. I'm not positive on how to stop him, but what we've been doing is having a few people get in his way as much as possible. He'll eventually stop...there could be a better way but I haven't found one. When he's stopped, have 1 person stay with him and the rest of the group go kill the monsters. If the person pulls back off him and lets him go while the monsters are still alive and he runs into them again, he'll take off running toward the beginning again, so keep him stopped until the monsters are dead.

I'm not positive if staying on top of him/close to him does actually stop him from running, but I guess it couldn't hurt. When he does take off back to the start he usually runs faster than everyone else, and he only stopped when he was out of breath. We didn't figure all this out till there was like 10 minutes left so we didn't win, but we'll prolly get it next time.
I usually don't quote myself...but can anyone confirm if what we were doing is right? Anyone else have any experience with this one?

And kinda unrelated and it probably was mentioned before, but are the number of monsters/difficulty of the assault dependant on the party numbers? Like do less monsters appear when you have 3 people than appear when you have 6?

You were doing it correctly, you just figured it out too late. I read it and it helped us win big time.

Ryko, since you did them all. You want to make a thread that tells you the strats for all 5 first ones? And we add on from there?

I dunno about you, but I'd rather it be a mission reward than a drop off a 21-24 hour nm?

I'd rather it be an assault reward like I said, at least even if its ridicioulously overpriced. Missions wont be fully done for like 6 months again I bet.

It might drop in assault but it's not listed as an assault reward item. Also the imperial [something] ring (haste +4% in assault) is an appraisal reward.

i'm still guessing it comes from a force pop nm with walahra water (if this is a temporary item like the fireflies instead of an ex item, scratch that)... who knows tho, i'll be better able to look at the mob .dat files and tell what's what once we know what the tier 2-3 assault mobs are named

Do the Assaults get easier if you go in with less people?

Lebros for example you can enter with 3 or 6, if I went in with 3 is it that exact same BC or does it adjust to the number of people you have? I cant see this being beatable by just 3 people otherwise.

I thought they did but now I'm not sure. We failed the brittle rock one three times in a row last night with four people. I think we might win it going back with a little more knowledge and me on Warrior (genius here thought countertanking Thieves and Rangers was a great idea for attempt #3) but it still seems a tall order to win with just four especially if you get gayed on mines. If you have to destroy more than the first wall manually... forget about it.

Ya my biggest problem for Lebros was the mine drops. Last two runs we killed 4 or 5 Quirgin and no drop... had to run back to find more Quirgin and it ate up all our time. Kinda lame.
