Well, would you look at that. It was mentioned. Awesome.
You're going to be casting eyes on me, mind blast, or magic hammer with an elemental staff, so those stats are somewhat pointless, other than the mind for magic fruit and savage blade I guess. The hp+3% would be sweet for breath attacks thou.Originally Posted by Not Kuno
The drain effects wouldn't need to proc that often to put it ahead of ifrit's blade and demon/dragon slayer for offhand, since it's already 42 base damage 236 delay to begin with. If it procced at least like 25% it would be fantastic. However, I wouldn't expect this to become to common, since I can't imagine it coming from anywhere other than the final chamber of einherjar.
Mind Blast is based on MND and Eyes On Me is based on CHR, so yea, it might not be as practical, but it's not like it's just for show.
On the whole, however, it would have to be impressive in other areas to really stand out.
The stats aren't that far away from Demon/Dragon Slayer, and the Devil/Wyrm is actually superior (DMG/delay-wise).
It doesn't have the melee or physical spell enhancing stats like Ifrits, or Perdu, or even Shiva's.
It just has decent damage and some odd stats.
If the HP drain effect is anything like that found on other weapons, it should add a considerable amount of damage when it procs, unlike the shitty add effect fire on ifrit's.Originally Posted by LD
The point of Ifrits is the +10 att and +3 STR, not the meager fire effect.
It is for meleeing (Main until 70's, since there's little else that's better until then, and Off afterwards) and the small physical spell boost, respectively.
Also, I was under the impression that Bloody Bolts and Lilith's Rod were the only drain effects that are anywhere near reliable or substantial, and in Lilith's case, it doesn't seem to be all that impressive for higher levels.
Like in the case of Vampiric Claws, no one ever talks about the drain effect, just the fact that it's a Slashing HtH.
Even if it procs 100% of the time and drains the amount you hit it for, that's not very great on the grand scale of things when damage is your goal and you already got Refresh and/or Ballad.
Perdu outclasses everything for BLU, this wont replace it unless it has something really good that we don't know about.
Why do BLU really care about Atk... I guess different fighting styles but when I'm solo I'm usually spamming spells and my melee hits just come inbetween. Even in BLU Burns, usually spamming spells cause the BRD is pulling so damn fast.
Don't think anyone implied it replacing Perdu but that it could be a great offhand sword.
Did ya'll miss it says HP or MP Drain btw, Tonko is the only one to mention the MP Drain and ya'll keep talking bout the HP Drain.
Well, I indirectly mentioned it with the Refresh/Ballad comment.
Honestly, I was surprised by the attack thing too, I'm more the spell spamming type, but I see the logic in boosting your sword damage.
Vorpal and such are important for extra damage and setting up SC and melee damage can be respectable, considering we're a mage.
I've averaged higher melee rounds with perdu + demon slayer than with perdu + ifrit's, 5-6 base damage is a lot. Even if the add effect is super rare, this sword still outclasses ifrit's or nq demon/dragon slayer. And if they proc with any regularity, it's easily the best offhand in the game.Originally Posted by LD
Weapons with HP drain don't cure you from the damage you've dealt, they deal an additional drain affect, even if you're at full hp. If it drained for the amount you hit for every time, it would be broken, since the sword would be doing double damage whenever it drains HP.Originally Posted by LD
I brought up the HP drain effect because it directly adds melee damage, in response to talking about "melee stats" above.Originally Posted by Judai
...eh-heh, ok.
I never said Ifrits was the only choice, I was just telling you the fire damage wasn't the point.
I intentionally used an extreme to illustrate the fact that Hofud is still unimpressive, even if based on its draining merits, which is a disappointment, since this will obviously be a Valgrind weapon and people aren't even up to the 2nd tier of chambers.
Ifrit's is damn outdated tho, +3 STR, +10 Attack and all-- unless you wish to continue to use for BLU/THF. I think Hofud's drain effects will be madness, cuz like you said, it won't be something easy to get-- it's made for BLUs only, either way. 8)Originally Posted by LD

It could always drop from 'odin prime' you know. That would be interesting as well >.>
"odin prime" doesn't exist as a mob and is just there for the mission cutscene where he speaks (after it's revealed that he isn't the actual odin).
odin does, however, exist as a mob
Hay, I coulda said it that way too, but you know... +3% for Breath attacks, and +MND and +CHR for assorted spells, and whatnot.Originally Posted by Priran
it's also 3% souleater damage, a small boost in procrate for arcana killer, and mnd so chaos sollerets don't feel lonely
Which lowers more VIT, stinking gas or wild oats or same? If different/same VIT reduction, how much each? Also I presume they dont stack?
They wouldn't stack. Which does more, I can't really answer that, but probably Gas.
The CHR affecting killer effects rumor seems to be as false as it generating more hate on provoke. Saw a decent amount of testing done by two different bsts(on KI I think way back), and it all pointed to base killer traits being 8% intimidation, all items/food that were tested that gave a specific killer trait were clocked close to 5%, and tatami shield was like 2-3%, regardless of CHR equipped.Originally Posted by Priran
Initial VIT down on wild oats and stinking gas was the same last time I checked in ballista, I'm not sure if one decays any slower than the other.
Odin is most likely the final boss in Valgrind.Originally Posted by karril
