    Work out your WSC.

floor(floor(STR+VIT)*.5)*.83) with both dusk and wivre. If that extra vit gives you the next whole number, then its at least equal with wivre nq on base damage alone, as well as slightly more defense.

If both heads give you the same wsc, then wivre mask gives you a 50% chance to get 1 more fstr, so its a comparison between maybe 1fstr, and however much pdif ~18 attack after buffs translates into. Id go with Wivre in that case since its a bucketload cheaper, and has no -movement speed. I recently bought one of the first wivre +1 to pop on pandy for 1mil 8)[/quote]

this is the problem, i don't really understand the math you just asked me to do ; ; what does "floor(floor" mean?
If i PM you my stats with both items would you be so kind to work it out for me?

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

just post them in here, somebody will do it for you

floor means round off to the lower number
eg, if you have say 131str 100vit

    total str+vit = 231

    (231*.5)=115.5
    floor(115.5)=115
    floor(115*.83)=floor(95.45)=95

I would say Wivre HQ > Dusk HQ > Dusk NQ > Wivre NQ but Dele might feel different ;p

    And Vulcan's + Axe/Mythril+1 v. Jag+1/Wing+1 + Shield still needs testing but it's bascily 5STR v. 3VIT and 27 DEF or 4STR v. 1VIT and 27 DEF (depending on grip)

I think this would come down to mob, a lower VIT mob the shield would prob be better and a higher VIT mob the staff would prob be better.

Honestly, even if staff + grip is a little ahead, I would still rather use sword + shield most of the time. If the mob turns while you're using staff, you're cannonball/VC is going to miss 95% of the time, while with sword it still has good chance of landing. This may rarely be an issue for what you use your blu to fight, but even so the rare miss is a huge loss of damage over time compared to whatever the difference between staff and sword + shield could be.

Either of the nqs are fine, really unless you feel like doing the math on each separate occasion (and even if you do) you wont tell the difference. As for weapon, I personally feel I get better results from staff/grip at 0 tp (obviously), but it might just be placebo. Also, Ive only had ifrits to use up until tonight (finally got a frikken Jagdplaute +1 tonight after about 5 months of looking..)

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

a question about STR total :
generally speaking, is there a value one'd try to reach (and exceed) or just "the more the better"?

I'm asking so because I bought all the standard STR macro gear for my taru BLU, and now every other piece means serious cash. being tarutaru my base stat is quite embarassing, so i wondered if maybe there'd be a STR value i'd really work to reach to compete in damage with others. this, or should i grab all the STR i can in time, without worrying too much?

Secondary mod on spell cast and WS does not cap. The more you have, the better.
fSTR and fSTR2 on physical spell is virtually impossible to cap (your STR must be 88 points higher than enemy VIT)
fSTR for WS can be capped. rank4 weapon (D36~D44) need 44 points higher in STR than mob VIT to cap fSTR stats

Same reason why I usually prefer sword/shield over staff, when your zerging a god or something and it can spin at any moment, i'd rather have that sword. Getting TP with a staff isn't also the easiest thing either.

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

The whole purpose of cannonballing is to deal damage - the being able to be out of range is a benefit, but not always necessary. Cerberus, Kirin, are two that come to mind immediately as mobs you can often tp on, as well as TPing on low lvl mobs for Tiamat and Ouryu should you be inclined to do so.

Just a quick question: for BLU's debuffs it's all about Blue Magic Skill, but will the correct elemantal saves enhance all spells?

I found info in this thread about nukes and MP Drainkiss, what about spells like Filamented Hold or Sheep Song/Yawn?

I've tried searching but couldn't find a good answer.

Elemental staves will affect BLU magical spell accuracy in the same way they affect WHM/RDM/BLM spell accuracy. Potency of most damage spells will also be boosted by using the proper staff, but not breath spells, and not debuff spells. Light/Apollo Staff will also boost potency of all BLU cure spells.
