because this is the blu mage thread is there anything else to talk about until that oh so often mentioned job update?
people will respond just for the sake of being bored.
but anyway.
back to back peckingflurrys is why you do have mfruit and head butt equipped but yeah while that does happen it does not happen very often and damn sure not every fight.
Dissverment once a fight can be taxing on the MP. so trying to do dissverment and stop tp moves in a merit pt is just not possible. not to mention you can hit for that 150 on a head butt and still get no stun proc, or said stun is so short the tp move still goes through.
If we all lived in some magical world where blues had an unlimited supply of mp and head butt always stunned then I would bump head butt from useless in a merit pt to useful but for the times I've seen Blus try to stop tp moves only to have the coli get off the move anyway or (since stunning a tp move doesn't take away a mobs tp) have said coli or w/e just use the tp move anyway. sure you can argue hey when mobs are above 25% they won't spam their tp but in a good merit pt mobs are above 25% for the maybe 7 seconds of the 20 it takes to kill them.
and you guys will go on about how shitty merit pts can be and how omg you saved your whole merit pt cus you head butted 3 consecutive firespits, not givivng account for head butt delay and such.
Considering how this isn't alla and people who come to BG should be able to make a half decent merit pt where the survival of all doesn't rely on the blus ability to head butt.
So let me rephrase in a good merit pt where every one does their jobs and knows how to play and aren't gimped to the point where your pt has a hard time killing off a coli, or w/e your exping on, in 20 seconds then and only then does Head butt become useless.
merit pts are a joke and saving the tank or yourself from a pecking flurry to the face is silly. Yeah in a proper merit pt hate jumps and peopel work with each other to make sure to grab and transfer hate that way the rdm just sits there and haste /refreshes those who needs it while tossing out regen and the occasional heal between pulls since no one is taking much of any damage. and when that firespit does go off geuss what the healer heals thats it.
In a 4xdd pt with out a Blu guess what there are no stunners and they do just fine, better then just fine, its those non blu DD parties that pull the crazy high chains that people try and push for.
Head butt is not needed in a real merit pt. Mobs die faster then its even worth it to stun and if one person has hate long enough to get double pecking flurry then that sucks and its probably because the suck ass blu wasn't doing his part to share hate and loltank.
in merit pts worth being in tanking looks some what like a 3-4 man game of ping pong with the coli flopping around between the melee until its finally put out of it's misery.
so back on point before you whinny ass noobs decided to flaunt how much your merit experiences have sucked.
Blu needs either a higher auto refresh 2 or 3, and yes I'd forgo other spells to set an auto refresh 2 or 3.
or a stronger more consistent way of regaining MP.
because I like to disseverment every fight.
yes every fight!
If all I wanted to do was swing my weapon for a whole fight I'd just go SAM or BST.
one of the nice things about Blu is smacking a mob with Disseverment and seeing it cry.
Something that Blus should be able to do every fight and still have some MP left over to toss that mfruit and head butt.
So you hosers should stop acting like I just but raped you for pointing out something that would make Blu better and think of something else to add that would make blu better.
If I didn't know better I'd say you were all closet wars who were trying to make sure wars stood at top DD at the expense of every other job.
and if you don't like my suggestion instead of saying OMG blus don't need anythign we are perfect!
try I think that would make Blu overpowered but if they did this (insert some kind of beneficial enhancement to blu) that might work out and still be balanced.
Every one sits around clenching their ass cheeks worried about the nerf reeming they might get if Blu was made over powered.
Instead of doing that come up with improvements that pushed Blus ahead in all categories but didn't make them overpowered.
I mean look at Rdms there the best at what they do in a pt situation and in HNM etc.
Rdms can also solo some pretty sick shit.
Rdms have not been nerfed out of existance.
Blus should be the DD equivalent of what rdms are to healing. Like rdms Blus should be able to pump out the pain non stop and still be able to ask for more.
It is sad that "Bronze is awesome so long as you try your best" seems to be your guys motto.
F! bronze I want Gold or platinum even, let the wars have gold, give me platinum and bitches!
I want the big fur coat and bling F! wars.
Yeah u heard me.
Edit: F! Wiki!~, nah wiki is just fine j/k
Just shut the fuck up already, you've already proven yourself to be a total moron. GTFO.
guys, if stun lands and wears off before the TP move is executed, it will have no effect.Originally Posted by Nazrious

Thats right, geniOus.
Anyone having trouble placing hate on people outside PT (people in alliance or just random people in besieged/campaign) with SATA cannonball?? Been trying to ummm, mess about with people in campaign but I just end up tanking after CSSATA cannonball and during behemoth just now, my SATA on the people behind it did nothing but get it mad at me.
Agreed.Originally Posted by Rena

The issue with meat is that at most merit camps you won't be at accuracy cap with it, even with merits & great gear. Close maybe, and you'd have to sacrifice alot of +STR from multihit spell setups for + accuracy, which just defeats the purpose because the +attack from meat does bupkiss for our spells. +5 STR & Dex from Sole sushi is great, along with the accuracy boost, not sure why you would want to eat meat to gain a small boost to sword & WS damage.
As for Nazrious, you are exactly why most people think BLU is a shitty job. You fail to see it's utility beyond doing damage, while doing damage. I'm not going to bother addressing specific points as previous posters have done, because you aren't listening. Please, just stop posting in this thread, unless you have something constructive to add to the discussion, no one wants to hear your drivel.
Assuming you're in a standard merit PT, and not a BLU burn or something, so you're getting standard melee songs and rolls and your only refresh is coming from RDM, Sanction, Morrigan and Job Trait, I guess playstyles vary but what I've found most effective is to treat it as any other melee job, but supplemented with additional "weaponskills" (spells). Personally, I identify a range of MP, typically 150~300 that I try to stay in at all times, meaning if everyone has TP at the start and I'm at the lower end of the range I'll hold off on a spell for that mob, whereas maybe if I'm at the higher end and it's been a while since the last mob due to waiting on a repop or someone went AFK midfight, I'll unload a bit more. You're absolutely right that eating meat you'll be sacrificing STR gear for more Acc gear on your spells to improve your sword/WS DoT, but that seems to work better with that kind of party, in my view.
I ate meat in Mount Zhayolm vs Erucas. Wasn't that bad, really. Infrasonics made it even better, but I had over +40 acc in gear so yeah. >_>
Blu is versitile - if its your only job. If you have other jobs, blu is less versitile (in terms of HNM). You could go blu to a kirin tpburn, but I got a rid/joy war; i could go tiamat as blu but i got a smn; etc. 98% of all the situations, blu will not match another job in dd/healing/buff/defuff on real HNM's. Outside of HNM, I find blu standing out of the crowd for: soloing imp's(exp) and a couple of bcnm.
You will go to an ls event as blu, for its verstile strenghts (DD, Healer, Defuff) but it's really hard to be truely effective. You can't maximize stats from set spells, you don't have access to all your spells (like all other jobs), you can't swtich spells from dd physical to dd magical (without major time delays), and I'm not sure if you could carry all the necesary equipment (str set, mnd set -- all the stats sets-- healing set, mp set, etc.).
Blu is good if you don't have the right jobs. But I would guess all HNNLS's have the right jobs. So 95% of the time, why do you need/want a blu? (-5% for the right jobs/people being online)
This is the same problem that at least half the jobs have. It's not a problem with BLU itself but the actual game design, including the ability to change job and level any job you wish without needing to change your character.Originally Posted by Repairs
The game can be reduced to 4 basic functions which are A. Tanking damage, B. Doing damage, C. Healing damage. D. General support.
Everything derives from there and you only need specific jobs that can fill those roles. With time, people find out which are the jobs that fill these roles better (sometimes one job can fill a combination of two or more of these aspects) and that is where the game is reduced to a matter of finding the perfect setup. Flawed game design, but hard to overcome at this point.
I believe i read from SE that they intended Einhenjar to be an event random enough that you'd never be able to have a perfect specialized setup for it. We all know how that ended, but that's another matter. This, in concept, is the perfect game design but it has a lot of holes to it.
But I digress, i just wanted to point out that not being the best in something isn't a BLU problem and in fact is the problem of at least half the jobs you can choose from.
My personal take on BLU is that the job is amazingly well balanced, very useful in many situations even if not specificaly desirable and specialy, it is very very fun once you find your own play style.
That said, i believe people could perfectly fit a BLU (or many other jobs) on "perfect setup" scenarios if we changed our mindsets, but that means a lot more work needed than it's probably worth. With this in mind, one can conclude this is mostly possible when you can do interesting and meaningful events with few people that are close to you and that can work with you to create personal strategies that work. In other words, Salvage and Nyzul style events (somewhat instanced and requiring few members) as oposed to massive events like ground HNMs or Dynamis. (Side note: I love BLU in dynamis =P)
Are you fucking serious? Blue mage is an outstanding DD on anything that's not kited. I out damage BLMs and other melees and BLM all the time on HNMs. (especially in einherjar and omega+ultima which is blue haxor territory). I do agree with you that your versitality lowers with other jobs IE your not gonna mainheal with BLU if you have RDM or WHM leveled. Or tank with it if you have PLD WAR or NIN. Or merit with it when you have SAM WAR NIN or MNK leveled. But on the HNMS it can be used on properly it's pretty good.Originally Posted by Repairs
What's your dd set up for omega/ultima? I only tried blu a few times against ultima, and I was mainly just spamming stun to help tank and kept disseverment poison up, for damage I'd just go blm. A few events I found blue mage really shine:
Einherjar: Tanking/sleeping mobs, no other job can hold hate on several mobs so easily, and when they wake actinic burst/temporal shift very useful, as well as debuffing them with frightfur roar/stinking gas (gas is mainly to get hate). Also good for marid's chiggoes to flashga/stunga tank them once they pop till blms -ga them.
Zhayolm Remnants: Head Butt spam on porrogo madames to help with charmga.
Nyzul Isle assault: often split up and stuff so it's useful to have sleep/cure/dd/tank/dispel all in one, and refresh ring helps so much, I often use blu in other assaults also.
Khim/cerb: cannonball.. For lolhydra war is just much better imo, and I use blm for pretty much any other hnm, I guess blu can do ok.. but I just prefer blm.
Jailer of temperance: Blu is best dd by far for that..
For both ultima and omega ive always just stuck to my cannonball set up.
For omega i will cannonball on 2 legs, and switch to HP+ gear and heat breath/ frost breath for 4 legs.
I only did my first ultima 2 days ago, and did nothing but heal with magic fruit + SATA Cannonball the tanks, it all worked out VERY well.

some of my better ones, still a lot of gear improvements to come for cannonball build.
rep and shass said what I been trying to say and I guess they said it nicer then I did and with less words. kudos to them.
Blu is awsome when it is your only job but then its also the hardest job for a brand new player to level properly.
And while it shines in some situations I still find myself turning to my other jobs when i need to do one specific thing.
Blu is more of its fun to play so I play it rather then its usefull for this or that, Havn't had any experience with temperance yet but my LS is moving into jailers soon so will prolly see some use out of my Blu for it.
Thats not to say that Blus wouldn't benefit greatly with more mp regain.
atm only time I bring Blu out is to Blu burn or run around helping people because I rather not lose exp on my other jobs.
on a side note:
Last night me and a LS mate gave this setup a whirl.
*rdm/dnc* Brd/nin Cor/nin Blu Blu Blu all /nin
lets just say I recant all statements about MP issues with this setup.![]()
We had to tweak our spell sets just to get in spells that utilized the MP we had.
diamondhide & warmup saw a lot of play which rly hasnt happened for me in a merit situation but sicne we had so much +acc we decided to use courel subs since there on the cheaper side and the colis were snatch morsel happy.
btw brd was using Ballad 2 and Madrigal and cor used evokers and i think rng roll, the one with acc and rng acc+.
the rdm was geared for DD with joytoy and he was eating sushi I think.
with subbed enaspir was getting 1-3mp a sword hit.
Rdm/dnc is a mp whore who doesnt quit.
And shes worth every penny.
sorry if som1 else already posted this or something just found it to be a very awsome combo.
we even had a lvl 72 blu with full af on and who didn't have disseverment.
in a crowded (5 parties) thickets meriting on coli's we were pulling in 12k an hour (no exp ring) with very little effort.
we even managed the occasional wivre when we all had TP and chain aff. up
it was fun.
using that same setup gonna try this out again next week but with 2 Blus from my LS.
one lsmate even suggested doing the nyzul > imps and mindflayers.
but doubt it would be as good or better then colis.
I seriously think with 3 fully merited fully geared Blus and no competition on either of the two coli levels would be able to pull off 22k+ an hour easy.
BLU BLU BLU BLU COR BRD on birds is so much more effective ;3
have you tried blu burn with rdm/dnc?
I've done the blux4 and cor brd thing b4 this setup allowed for way way way more mp output.
it let the brd use madrigal without any of the blus even missing the mp.
hell the rdm could prolly have been better geared and the cor was in full af.
dun forget Rdms have sword skill. even SE admitted it! lol
now that I think of it the rdm wasnt using his enspells ><
yeah the rdm definitely coulda stepped up his game when it came to full out DD rdm.
lol SE made rdm a frontline job and doesn't even know it yet lol
lol but the thing is where am I going to find a properly geared melee DD rdm...
I mean rdms are taught from birth not to melee in a pt lol.
In this situation I might even favor rdm/dnc in a 4blu 1brd 1xxx setup over cor.
as it comes down to a matter of the cors acc roll vs rdms haste.
so 6-23 acc with most rolls coming in at around the 15ish mark Vs 5% haste.
then u have the cors 2-5 evokers which is usally around 3-4 vs the rdms refresh which is 3 and the enaspir which is another 2-6 a round.
Oh and the rdm can cast stone or some such nonsense to force the coli to waste time casting instead of fighting.
but then maybe I'm just a haste whore.
kinda makes me want to go lvl rdm... but then I would want to play with myself... and I don't mean in the way you are all thinking! lol
My biggest gripe with blu is that beyond Cannonball, nothing else seems to scale well on harder HNM.
Idk, maybe im doing something wrong. But most spells you throw at HNM fall flat on their face in damage.
This is why i see the point of what someone said that Blu replaces nothing on most endgame things, and if you have other jobs, most of the time you'll be asked to come on something else. I guess its situational. Because your dmg like stated is much better on things you dont kite, and also on things you can sata.
But besides a cannonball setup, most anything else physical doesnt hit worth a damn. Diss, FR, HB i seem to pull off 160s is that. Seems kinda silly to bust out a 500-800 on a IT mob only to land a 100 on a HNM. I guess its resists. Meanwhile most melee seem to land the same WS dmg they land in merit parties. Hi2u 1.2k Sam ws' on Kirin. While I realize i can pull off "similar" numbers with the proper Cannonball build i would like to see more use of other spells that arent so reliant on SATA. Even if i was only able to land a 400-500 lone Disservment on faf i would be happy. And i don't think that should be unreasonable.
Perhaps this will change if SE decides to give more Blue skill? Or maybe they can just simply adjust the resist rate vs higher lvl stuff maybe. Maybe if the resists werent so bad for other spells, we would hear "*insert LS name application page*: Now looking for BLUs", "get that blu in the alliance" "can you please come on blu?" a little more often. I dont need to be the TOP DD either, let the jobs that focus on DDing only be that. But i would still like to be comparable.
How do the rest of you feel about none Cannonball spells on HNM?
Discuss!
Vertical Cleave scales up pretty well.
