hmm, i'd really have to say Regurgitation is better then, from a damage standpoint.

As an elvaan, and only +46 INT i think? 9 MAB, neptune staff, mab trait, I was getting a consistent ~400 dmg with no buffs.

400 for 69 mp is a lot better than 473 for 112 mp heh.

Of course, if regurgitation really doesn't pull hate very well...it's kind of useless for duo regardless of how good the dmg per MP cost is.

like I said it was to mind blast usage not regurgitation as I haven't tested regurgitation out much, too busy with finals coming up to even get on

i was in campaign nuking Vaa Oozu's Scolopendrid with regurgitation a little while ago (trying to keep it occupied while people killed the NM [then douchebags were smacking the one i had bound like idiots])

stupid scorpion went back to fighting the fortification? thing and wasnt interested in me (maybe its a shared hate thing, but idk, it followed me for a while)

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

I am going for magical BLU this wednesday for Limbus

So I did test a bit on Regurgitation,
From the formula point of view, it seems INT is more effective than MND for point-per-point basis. But INT spells on BLU is pretty expensive/ minimal. I think high 400/low 500 is the best I can do with my current setup (MAB trait, memento mori, moldy). Anyone got better idea to push them to 700/800 ?

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

So sorry but I couldn't find the actual formulas for Regurgitation and Corrosive Ooze using search. How do you know how much MND or INT helps this?

Also just more general questions for a BLU noob here... Sorry if these are obvious, but I had a really hard time finding info through search here.

    1) If you were going for a magical damage build on a BLU, which moves would you use?

    2) What's the typical resist rate you get on higher end mobs (IT++ to HNMs)? What about moves with damage + added effects? Is this generally accepted as a product of Blue magic Skill only? Or maybe LVL difference, INT difference, etc.?

    3) How can you tell the max range on these moves? Some of them seem 20' while others are almost melee range.

    4) Are any of the breath moves useful in practice?

    Thanks!

What do you mean which moves? Eyes/Firespit/Mind Blast combined with Memento Mori/Ennervation will provide the most damage, dependant on the situation of course.

Not much different to a BLM with equivalent skill/macc

    3) How can you tell the max range on these moves? Some of them seem 20' while others are almost melee range.
By casting them? No other way really.
    4) Are any of the breath moves useful in practice?
    Situationally very useful.
    Thanks![/quote]

    Re: Blue Mage: Job Findings

Regurgitation is weird and alternates between two base damage formulas, as I mentioned a couple pages back. VZX I think knows the specific multipliers from Studio Gobli, as well as the WSC mods for calculating the V component (30% MND?).

As for your other questions, depending on what spell you were intending to cast you'd probably just gear around that. Trait-wise, MAB if you're not /RDM or /BLM, auto refresh, conserve MP, then spells that boost the stat that corresponds to the spell you're casting, and of course the spell itself. Most BLU magic spells are more MP intensive than physical spells so maybe clear mind if there's space. I can't really speak to resist rates since it's been quite a while since I played around with that setup on anything particularly difficult, and I've got way more merits and some better gear since then.

The casting ranges you just kinda figure out after a while, no better way to put it than that really lol As for breath spells, I know a lot of BLUs prefer them in the magic spell department. They have non-target-dependent damage based on your level and HP, and as such they are easier to gear for if you don't have other mage jobs. The tradeoff with them is higher base damage and higher effective multiplier for monster correlation and convergence against being unaffected damage-wise by any other standard magic damage bonuses: staff, MAB, MB.

I posted the new info from studio gobli to BG wiki recently (on calculating blue magic damage page). So if you want to see the detail, it's there.

With the new helm damage is a lot better. Breaths are very useful on normal mobs, and some higher end ones, but some mobs will straight up resist you(gods, toaHNM) but you need quite a bit of HP to make the MP used worth it. I was suprised to see a mob like Raubahn not resist breaths in assault, i still have to try Salvage Bosses and some other things. Heres the pic, i forgot to SS the self-destruct for 1550 that came afterwards D:

I find I get more use out of Frost Breath than anything. Mainly cause it's the only worthwhile Ice Nuke we got for Adamantoise Family Mobs.

On the topic of that helmet, think duo BLU and RDM could take the NM?

I wouldn't try it. Enfeebles don't land (except for maybe 1 or 2, don't really remember which, if any), and it hits pretty hard/fast, along with the perma-enaero for 120+.

Not sure how staffs dont effect breath spells maybe it was just partial resists but when i equip the right staff damage is always 20-40 higher

Resists for breath spells work the same way as nukes; 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc. Say your heat breath hits for 1000 unresisted, the highest it could hit with any kind of resist is 500, there's no way for it to resist to some weird number like 980 or 960. Staff, burst affinity/magic burst only increase accuracy not damage. If you are seeing small damage differences there are different factors involved; your hp, monster correlation, convergence, etc.

I agree. I tend to always keep at least 1 Breath Attack equipped for Nyzul since my team has no regular BLM. They make short work of Flans, Slimes, and other Phys. resistant mobs.

Usually keep on Heat Breath at all times, swap into Frost Breath for Adamantoises/fire-resist mobs and lastly the rare times that both of those dont work - Radiant Breath.

I usually go Heat > Frost > Heca Wave rather than Radiant. I can't even remember the last time i used Radiant Breath.

You can always drop a nice Diss on someone right before the match ends and watch as they die outside the match~
