    You also need to realize, as previously stated in this thread. A lot of DD jobs now only get one or two actual ws's that they even use... Look at how versatile BLU is.. all the things that it can do for any given situation. We even get a TON more spells in addition to ws's than all other jobs for DD purposes. Big3, VC, CB, magical nukes, breath spells etc. Compare that to a sam with ygk, rana for SC, mnk with AF etc. We get it nice.

    I do agree they need to do a nice overhaul on our magical spells... 1k needles and bad breath especially -.-, such iconic spells to blu in the series and they are horrible due to extreme high mp costs. 212 bad breath, 300+ 1k needles wtf SE thinking here.

    look, the way I see it, they wanted to improve BLUs place in a solo/lowman/not having all the support you'd like role this update.


    I figure the fun big damage spells will come`next update.

    OK that sounds more reasonable (not that I'm somehow in a place to judge this haha), but I didn't really find getting spells a pain, but I guess I had a few friends who are generally bored and looking for random stuff to do.

    I always enjoy getting spells, was a lot of fun and still is to me. This is also the only FF where BLU gets this many spells also, thats something nice lol

    My guess is SE keeps BLU off Ridill simply because Fafnir is an error of the past and to go back and revisit the error would be counterproductive. This is the same logic SE has used in the past with Kraken Club.

    BLU gets access to two Antea's that both allow you to multihit and basically it's a take it or leave it scenario.

    On the spells? Every mage job has crappy mage spells so BLU is no exception. Regurgitation was a good example of a good mage spell along with the breath variants but the only reason SE nerfed some spells into the ground is because of how broken they would be if made more potent.

    I like these new spells are making the job more self-sufficient since having to beg for a proper haste or refresh held the job back.

    Yeah... but would 1k needles really be that potent? :/ I mean if it cost like 100 mp.. we can do that much dmg with just barrage + dissv. I guess on high end mobs it would be a bit overpowered to do 1k every time, maybe make the recast timer real high like a AM spell. Bad breath, the enfeebles arent really that potent compared to our other alternatives, poison from dissv, gravity from m cloud, slow from discharge/f hold and bind from regur etc. Would really be that bad to lower MP cost on bad breath? >_> and they wear off pretty quick as well.

    Just depended on the spell actually and learn rate I swear it took forever for me to learn Self-Destruct but others all I have to do is see it once that random nature does drive me crazy. Took about 4 hours for all to learn sub-zero smash with a party of blus yeah a few times we got raped lol.

    But nothing match back in the day body slam that was a death fest but all the info on how we learned spells was still being uncovered, now a days quite a few easier ways to get it then running in and smacking those suckers around lol.

    Yeah... that is easily one of the biggest mysteries in this game lol, why would SE put PUP on that.

    If I were to rank this BLU update 1 to 10, I'd give it an 8/10.

    It was a very strong update and boost to BLU, as it should be. We didn't get much in the relm of damage dealing spells, but no one should have expected it, as they still have it in mind to give up HNM spell sets (lvl 81~100 HNM).

    However, we've gotten our own self-refresh (you know you've never been in a PT with a BRD unless it's a very special situation -- then again you are probably 2nd to or dead last on a RDM's refresh list), Dual Wield (which is very good with Suppa Earring, sucks without), Double Attack (the best trait you can use with /NIN and /DNC), and an amazing Haste spell (see refresh babbling above). If that wasn't amazing enough we have a plethora of new swords to complement BLU alot better as it should be, and a powered up Tizona for those very few BLU.

    We've also gone up a few damage tiers for physical Blue Magic, I just haven't confirmed them all because I need to skill up more. The fact that SE didn't nerf it in anyway alone counts as an update to BLU as well.

    Instead of bitching and debating this update as bad because of a lack of new physical blue magic, the people bitching should explore the new heights SE has graced us with. Come back by the middle of September to bitch, if anything.

    Honestly, I believe there are a few changes that SE could make to Blu and it would ease alot of the frustration some blus feel over their spells.

    1. Make some debuffs last longer

    Blu is a great debuffing job, but some of our debuffs wear off a few seconds after they are cast. One example is Aweful eye. The Str down effect barely lasts even on Easy Prey mobs and below.

    2. Lower the MP cost of spells to be equivalent to their Damage or equivalent debuff

    There is no need for spells like 1k needles and Bad Breath costing what they do considering there are other spells that do similar damage/debuffs that cost much much less.

    3. Allow MP draining spells and weapons to work against all mobs

    This is a major limitation for blu (as well as other mage jobs) and it is being sorely felt leveling from 75-80. I can understand the reasoning behind this (It makes sense to not be able to drain MP from a mob that doesn't have it). However, it is not fair to us to have our capacity diminished significantly on most mobs people fight (since mobs with MP are more of an exception then a rule). It also limits the effectiveness of weapons that do the same (Tizona is the one good thing SE has done in that the mob doesn't require MP).

    Note: For those who may say other jobs have limitations on mobs they fight (example Drgs do more damage against mobs weak to piercing), this is not the same. At least those limitations restrict the damage and do not nullify any and all damage. This one spell loses all its usefulness against mobs w/o MP.

    4. Either give us more set points or have a discount when setting spells for a trait

    We all know we set some spells just for traits and not for the spell itself. SE should give us the option to set spells only for their trait at a much lower set point price. To compensate, these spells cannot be cast by the blu when they are designates as "trait only spells". If you want to set a spell for a trait and use it the normal set points required will apply.

    Edit: Forgot one of my biggest pet peeves

    5. Please...PLEASE SE, reduce the tp given to mobs by our multi hit spells.

    All I use blue Mage for is head butt spam when I am setting up events. Having one in an alliance is great and I try to get them Refresh and Haste. Now I don't have to pay attention to that. I definitely approve.

    Pretty much this. It was never all that likely that we'd get a big physical spell this update - Frenetic Rip is only just now capping D, all our other notable physical spells are still at least a few levels off from capping. We've always had dry spots between notable physical spells, no doubt in part because of this... Expect a big new physical spell or 3 as we rise above level 83 or so. Bigger nukes would have been nice, but what we have work fairly well and it's not like these aren't without utility. Lowering MDB and INT work to increase everyone's damage makes the new nukes a prime choice for nuker-heavy scenarios. Leafstorm is kind of iffy yet, Cimicine is disappointing in potency, and Demoralizing Roar's duration is pretty lol, but other than that we really don't have anything to complain about. Considering everything else we got, 3 meh spells (one of which is used to set DA) is pretty damn good. My only real complaint is that they didn't give us more set points

    May want to also mention how spells set aren't remembered when you switch jobs... Least on PUP it remembers what frame you had and its attachments -_-

    Yeah, but my spell sets are hemorrhaging from all the shit I want to set now Guess they figured we could live with 50 for the time being. 10 points at 81 would be so nice...
