It's pretty much impossible for Sword/Sword to beat Staff/Grip on lower-defense monsters. On top of that, you spend more points setting Dual Wield, which includes a 4 point spell (Animating Wail) that isn't usually useful and contains no relevant +stats. You're talking about dropping Auto-Refresh- which only involves setting 1 spell that doesn't have relevant +stats and is 3 points (Frightful Roar). Additionally, Frightful Roar is useful on monsters where you can land it.
Now, that's not to say that Sword/Sword doesn't have a use for /THF at all. If TPing is worthwhile, then it'll let you get more extra stats for lower-defense monsters. In addition, Animating Wail will help with TP gain- so the 4-point "dead weight" spell is now helping you with TP gain.
Quick question:
Is there any consensus yet about where the skill tiers are and that what actual numbers it happens at? Kinda wondering if I should be chasing the new neck piece with skill on it, but if the +skill won't break a tier I can take a pass on it.
If I recall, with merits, neither Symbios Gloves nor Mavi Scarf alone will put you above a tier at Lv80.
Enkidu's to Symbios (STR+8, ACC+5 vs. Skill+5)
Anwig to Mirage (STR/DEX+4, Crit+2% vs. Skill+5)
Kubira to Mavi (STR/DEX+4 vs. Skill+4, Sword+4)
I already have full merits, and use Jubbah +1 for just about everything, but it's hard to stomach the loss of STR+16/DEX+8 to jump up those final two tiers. How does breaking a skill tier (or two) affect damage, compared to raw stats?
Edit: I guess the post at the top of the page illustrates it to a degree.
Interesting. Thanks.
With 8/8 merits, AF body, and relic head you could reach another tier with the Mavi Scarf and Antica Ring, but the stats you'd lose from Neck and Ring slots probably make this a losing proposition. At 81 you'd only need Mavi so it'd be a winner there, at least until you leveled some more and Mavi didn't take you out a tier.
But considering I never got a Kogglemander from MMM, getting an Antica Ring seems even less likely. I won't sweat it.![]()
Interesting... any idea how it's popped?
Skill tier grants two base damage. Symbios to Enkidu's alone is 8 STR or 2 fSTR, which is two base damage before even considering mods... The 18 damage above was due to VCleave's high multiplier and (in this test) critical pDIF; values will vary by spell.
So any further thoughts on OA3, OAT khanda and DA ?
late reply, but as another poster, I'm looking forward to an STR Shamshir and a DEX Shamshir.
Currently on the manticores stage for STR and Lizards stage for DEX.... retired my perdu since i finished the flans trial.....chose DEX instead of another STR because it lets you TP in tiercel/acubens w/o worrying much about the lost acc.
I don't see Almace being too useful for the jobs that can use it, at all... OA2-3 Khanda is better for RDM and PLD, but, if you don't have either, you could get the DA +7 Khanda, since Khalamari has been found.... but it'll take you a long time to finish.
And I don't think the OAT weapon is worth it, since we got Double Attack already.
How does having native DA make an OAT weapon not worth it?
Since I figure all fellow BLU are doing Sword trials, does anyone have advice for doing Trial 165(Sea Monks in Wind/Linghtning/Fire/Light)? The Grotto seems to never have lighting weather and Onzozo's monks are too low level most of the time.
just goto onzozo it's worth it in the end. when it's not weather kill the too weak ones to cycle them till they are ep then slaughter while weather is up. also npc adventuring fellow is usefull in farming there. so if you have a fellow these trials are a good time to use them.
I don't know how often lightning or wind weather is..but you could try fishing up the mantas in the Silver Sea Route to Al Zhabi? They are higher level than Onzozo's monks~
Edit: but not by much, they are level 63-64 compared to the 55-59 in Onzozo
Best bet is most likely the mantas in Onzozo.
It's THE main reason why i didnot rush to lvl80. Now i'm kinda laughing at all those friends i warned before who are now moaning @ too weak magian mobs "omg i'm so f.cked".
A last resort option would be Abyssea mobs, but good luck bringing your group to the mobs you want on correct day.
