ok, so today I got atma of the razed ruins.
so in Abyssea, what would be the optimum gear setup for Vorpal Blade?
(the other atma I use is Atma of Ambition)

Either Voracious Violet or Stout Arm if paired with RR, but I wanna say you should try to get Minikin since helping your spell spam can probably do more for your damage unless you also happen to have CDC.
You probably wouldn't be surprised how many non-empyrean BLUs I've tried to point out this same logic to. For some reason I guess they can't see the correlation between mp and damage?Originally Posted by Arus2001
Was there ever a consensus about which magian (baring emp/woe) is best to go for when dding? I am looking at that def down swords right now. They seem really good with -15% right now, and with dual wielding they should proc quite often (can it proc off hand?). It would seem they also will go up to -25 by 99 so I cannot see any reason to not have these, but apparently I am missing something bc str swords seems to be the only thing worth going for on my server. Well either that or dex ones (I dont get this, acc caps on blu easy). Is it that these swords dont stack with other forms of -def? I am really confused why none has when to me it seems best deal, especially with abys being +100 everything stat wise now lol. 8 str doesnt seem like a real issue, and all blus should be attempting to get MM so that they can literally spam spells, which means that the attack is kinda wasted, and that procing -15% on a mob would boost dmg tons when you do 2k lol.
I also had a side grade questions. I am working mostly atm on the ma acc swords. For what I use blu for these are really best (normally I am stun locking, or !! procing which means my dmg doesnt matter, but i better be landing stun and need that mp as I am a galka lol). How much ma acc is normally needed for abys mobs? I can get a decent land rate, but it still is not prcong often enough for me, hoping 28 ma acc will change this.
Oh one more thought, the 8 int 9 mab swords kinda look fun for helping proc amber off senguine. Do you know how much 16 int and 18 mab will raise its dmg? If its not over 200 then I wont waste my time on these.
no, no. I meant, with using RR, what gear (specifically) would I get to maximize my vorpal blade damage.
cap acc, then I would think attack will be most influential, so once thats capped just work on mods.
I agree with this, but personally my own evening static does not have the luxury of waiting for day changes.
Also yesterday we have been VERY unlucky and had two Sobeks in which 1000 Needles was the trigger. Needless to say Sobek completely resists this spell (used with Azure Lore, Convergence, Burst Affinity, Ascetics Drink, Light Threnody on and all the trimmings). However, we did not try Death Blossom or had a DNC, so this might super-cede what happened.
We had that same experience too (1k Needle on Sobek). I wonder if some NMs use a specific trigger more often.
Maybe switch to /BLM to ES it and/or try to MB it.
I think ES+1k was "fixed" a while back.
From the prep VU thread:
262/22 = Thermal Pulse
262/23 = Brain Spike (it's animated a slight different)
262/24 = Occultation
262/25 = Charged Whisker
262/26 = Winds of Promyvion
262/27 = ??? (some people think something from Pixies?)
Also heard reports on Delta Thrust from peiste.
Let's hope Occultation is the UTSUSEMI effect (guarenteed to proc) rather than lousy blink! If so, and the cast time/recast time/MP cost (less so) is reasonable, perhaps this spell is a /nin killer. Also hoping that Winds of Promyvion is an Esuna type (but single target) spell to complement our existing Erase spell Exuviation.
Brain Spike as 1hit may be interesting too - wonder if it stacks with SA?

BLU spells starting from 1:29.
The last spell looks like one of the Pixie breezes - Spring Breeze iirc. It doesn't sound like Spring Breeze though.
The last windy looking spell could perhaps be one of the Amphitere moves? Perhaps Reaving Wind I think it's called.
Any thoughts on potential job abilities from spell combinations? I can't really think of any valid new traits, personally; perhaps we'll just get more options for the current traits we have?
We can't set Subtle Blow, might get that. Not incredibly useful to me since I'd generally /NIN (SB III at 90/45) anyway in situations where it's relevant but I could see them adding it.
My guess is whatever new stuff they come up with for other jobs this go-round.
