Blue Mage: Best thread ever

Ok so doing a quick review of the spells we've gotten since Abyssea, I was messing around with Blazing Bound after reading about the mods on the other wiki and someones claim on zam that it was the "magical equivalent to cannonball". Well, it's got the range... is that it?

Has anyone made this spell do anything other than underwhelm? The INT mod is fine but MDB is a hard stat to stack and Bound not being affected by MAB is interesting to say the least.

Man I hope Reaving Wind AoE knockbacks. I'm pretty resigned to it being a fail spell at this point, but it would be cool to imitate Millenia's Taint of Wind attack from Grandia 2, just the once.

They probably said that because of the MDB thing and Cannonball's reliance on your defense.

If it's Reaving Wind with the full effect, I hope it at least lasts 30 seconds for the Knockback. Would be perfect for throwing up Ichi. Doesn't have to be 2-5 minutes, just enough to put up Ichi.

I'm going with a new move from those new roc mobs that square was too lazy to reskin right , like zeph arrow/B typhoon.

With Wind damage done based on Current MP/Max MP difference.

Write that down.

I don't think 262/27 is Reaving Wind, tbh. 223/57 is the original Reaving Wind, and, while both share the initial sound effect, 262/27 is a more extended version that ends like a pixie move.

Cyclonic Turmoil
Deals Wind damage in an area of effect. Additional effect: Knockback & Dispel

That's a hell lot better than Feather Tickle +1.

Ahh yes indeed. However I should have mentioned a lil bit more in detail after I found it in the .dats, sorry about that. 262/27 is labeled "zuu_win0". 223/57 is labeled "zuu_wind." The other attacks are "zuu_cry", "zuu_typo", "zuu_trnd". The spell that looks extremely similar to this new one that you saw is "slh_sumr" (Summer Breeze; Cyclonic Turmoil has no "buff" effect at all on the target, and it's animated much faster).

It still may very well be Reaving Wind, but animated a bit further for the sake of converting it into a "visible" spell. They did the same for Head Butt, Foot Kick, Vanity Dive, Jet Stream, Power Attack, Smite of Rage, Quad. Continuum, and the assumed "Brain Spike" spell. However, if this is true this spell would be the odd one out, seeing as they didn't need to visually change a magical buff effect before. Or it might be an Abyssea exclusive spell (which seems too far fetched).

This is kinda silly for us to argue over a spell we'll learn in about 12 hours, but BLU speculation has always been fun.

Edit, a lot of things are just reskinned now, so if something looks like something, doesn't mean it's that thing.... ZOMG SHIVA GETS METEOR! naw.. it's just reskinned and called "Heavenly Strike"

Can you imagine the awesome PT MPK Tactics available with a knockback move? You don't even need to risk it yourself (i.e. take hate + run with the mob)! Just smash the mob into a field of his linking friends!
