With 6 a tic refresh I do fine on mp when tanking/curing. When mp and timers are down I can always just throw on capped PDT-. I use blu over my other jobs because it offers everything. That said, a nin would be a better tank, a war would do more dmg, and a whm would cure more effectively.

If you need to stun spells then its very easy to time buffs/debuffs between mob's casts. If you need to stun TP move you can cast buffs/debuffs after mob TP move. If you gonna use BLU on mob that not require stun for some heavy nuke/tpmove and just use melee dmg then why use BLU at all? Unless BLU is your only job. Maybe my point of view is a little broken cuz I have Kannagi and Veret and soon Almace and I would only go fight BLU if debuffs/buffs, stun that BLU job has to offer will give me advance in the fight. Otherwise I would use MNK or NIN. NIN/dnc can probably stun a lot (if we talking about not life dependent stuns) and still be much better in melee damage so w/o spells I listed above BLU for me is just NIN or MNK -1.
It is not a safer bet. First, the high MP cost spells you mentioned are irrelevant to the settings I'm depicting. Reaving wind is ineffective, Occultation is unnecessary, and Diamondhide is a waste of attack rounds and MP. An example of what you would use this on is Emperor de Altepa. You would neither duo him as BLU+WHM nor use any of the aforementioned spells. You do stun after 4k Needles to give breathing room for cure spam and since it is random, you cannot time the stuns. Furthermore, his TP move is either independent of TP or he posses a strong regain/sTP since we were unable to prevent back-to-back 4k needles with one monk on him while combining Reaving wind and Feather tickle. Why use a BLU? For yellow triggers. If you want to maximize efficiency, it's unlikely you're going anything besides Empyrean NIN/MNK + WHM, so why bring up the arbitrary question of why a BLU is present? It's stupid. Even if stun offered an advantage, WHM/BLM exists and Emp NIN/MNK's damage output should surpass that of BLU. So again, why bring up stupid things? We're not discussing overall efficiency, we're discussing how to be efficient at BLU given different scenarios.

I definitely read some strategy of Emperor de altapa of 2x BLU duo it with use of Reaving wind and feather tickle. They were disengage and only did dmg with spells counting how many tp they give and using wind right before 100%. Guy was also saying they were /rdm or something with buffed def and using combo of occultation and stoneskin (i think) and cocoon they completely cut other tp source for cactuar and he never did needles.

4000 needles arent random either. First 4000 needles are TP move and depends on how low is his TP he can make few more after first.

He starts 4k Needles well above 20% meaning that it is random when he decides to use it. He uses it up to three times in a row thereafter. The set up described would not employ melee atmas in any general sense, so your atma set up would be incorrect anyways and you would use the XP PT style atma set up (VV/RR/Minikins).

@Taki: The strategy he posted is speculation off a duo with RDM and BLU using Phalanx II and Stoneskin.

It can do multiple needles back to back without getting any tp in between at all.

    I've seen 5x 4000 needles in a row.

1k Needles until 75%, then 2k til 50%, then 4k thereafter with a chance for multiples depending on his exact HP percentage, is what I've seen during my limited fighting of him.

Yeah, don't think he needs any tp to spam needles. Haven't tried pure melee blu, but like yugl said, only time i'm on blu, is when we need yellow triggers. Isn't my job to melee and do dmg. Heck I mostly load 3x mab ones for aoe TE building.
If I'm low manning, I play mnk nin thief instead of blue. I use rr intead of GH, so I can have tp ready to proc red. Meleeing stuff full time kills them fast, regardless of the tp gain it gives. Nicer to run around and have tp alrady for the next nm that pops.

So, what is the general consensus for best 3 atma combination, and spells to set for general exp party in abyssea? Im looking to bring BLU 75-90, just want to know what I should be striving for.
    Thanks

If spell spamming, VV + RR + Minikins works. Melee, it appears that RR GH and Apoc is the best. Spell set up varies by the activity.

Azdaja is your best bet for coins.

The worst thing it has is sleep wing which can be avoided via proper preparation (bring poison/pachiras or enjoy being chain slept). You can kite it if things get bad and it doesn't really have much HP (relative to other wyrms).

Really, the en-status effects (doom, pet, para i recall) have to be the worst part of the battle along with the cruor buff dispel.

It also Dispel's Atma, Baleful roar is probably the only thing that can make shit hit the fan fast but it paths horribly so mages can kite while DD/tanks can go get buffs again.

This. I'll also add that the Spike Flail is relatively weak if it triggers due to kiting. Speaking of which, can kite up and down the path past the conflux to the skeletons and back down again if any problems.

I wouldn't say Azdaja is easier to kill though, a bad en-doom or unlucky sleep-when-poison-pot-wears, coupled with no cruor buffs makes a mean bitch. Compared to Dragua which with Barstone/Barpetrify and MDT set isn't a challenge at all. Wiki even reports MNK MNK WHM BLM kill. Given that, whilst coins are rare from Dragua, it may be more plausible to burn through him instead, depending on group size.

Isn't that amount of damage what caused stuff to instantly die in some FF game?

Having done somewhere in the region of 20-30 Dragua I have yet to see a single coin drop. I've even seen it drop 0 cards with a yellow trigger once :/
