A select few mobs give 1k needles a definitive "fuck you" with regards to landing for seemingly no reason.

i definitely ate my words when i said a few weeks back it was easy to land (without specific atmas for macc)

I like how it was given some use... hell they shoulda made bad breath a proc instead of seedspray. Just give some old nostalgia to the BLU job considering those spells would never be used outside of that purpose.

Would someone mind breaking down current sword combo options to someone who hasn't played since a couple months before visions of abyssea came out? I've been searching for people's recommendations and have found a bit of discussion on BLU spells and atma choices but haven't found (or maybe just have overlooked) anything as indepth on armor and weapons. And I know this is the kind of question I should be able to answer for myself anyway, but it'll take some time to get a feel for the game again and the various options, and since I'm assuming I'll need to do one or two Magian trials I'd like to get started on those as soon as possible. If you could, please assume that I'll be spending time mostly in Abyssea, but don't want to limit myself in that sense (that is, even if I spend 95% of my ingame time there, I'd like to also be well-equipped for the other 5%), and that I currently use what was pretty well above average gear from when the game was 75 cap.

Sorry, I know this is kind of a Random Question thread type of request, but I've always found the BLU thread to be the best place for answers to BLU-related random questions, and nobody ever seems to mind.

P.S. I mostly care about weapons because of the whole Magians thing I mentioned already, but for armor and such, if you can think of anything that is better than what I would have but not super obvious to a person who just came back (like I know about AF3, but there've been a billion new pieces for other slots added in the last year), I'd be interested to know about that too so I could look into it.

In regards to Badelaire +2 and Almace, is the Badelaire a suitable replacement for Almace for the long term? I know that the DoT difference is pretty massive, but in terms of WS dmg difference it really shouldn't be all that big of a hit, right?

Other then the base stats that come with emp weapons I really dont think there is "much" of a difference when it comes to WS damage. Obviously on DoT, you're gonna be losing out but i think for the average joe blu, that badelaire+2 is good enough.

Badelaire +2 has higher base damage than 85 Almace. 10 DEX keeps it ahead for now but his point was that unless you keep up with Empyrean trials Badelaire would eventually overtake Almace in terms of WS damage.

SE is going to fix 1000 needles and blitz!....

yeah right just make 1k needles do 1 dmg on NMs and make it so blitz can't stun NMs everyone would be "happier" with the 1k needles doing 1 dmg then resisting "immune" NMs (can only think of Sobek and the ul range kitty)

So tried out some eva tanking on Gnawtooth Gary, soloed it, worked well even with subpar eva gear coupled with Auroral Drape and a single EVA:Major atma. I imagine this method will be less effective in Heroes zones where the NMs are of a higher level, but it's a neat little trick to do for some NMs which rape even with pdt (like Gnawtooth and it's add effect+triple attack).

As an aside, anyone else done a lot of BLU tanking? I've been doing it for quite a long time now, and people are constantly surprised that BLUs actually don't suck at tanking with the right gear. Now I know most people can tank with JOB+WHM, but when it comes to heavy magic (Acheron Flame from Orthrus, Fulimentation/CS spam from Dhorme Khimeria) damage, BLUs can seriously show its potential with Saline Coat and an MDT set.
