Blue Mage: Best thread ever

I'm not sure whether there is a time delay on geodes/avatarite... but I'd probably do it about the same as i did a bunchof trials on blu...
pull a group of lvl 60ish mobs and sleep them. Wait for weather >> Nuke. I used CW and WoR in a blu duo to bring them down pretty quickly.
On other weak stuff I would just spam the AoE physical spells:

WoR
Frypan
Sub-Zero Smash
Emptry Thrash
Benthic Typhoon


it was especially helpful when a jp blu w/ a whm didn't want to team up for kills. I was killing 5x when he was killing 2.

I just recall working on a trial in CN killing vermin when I had some lowbies asking me for KS for their limit breaks. Maybe took an hour and a half to get them theirs since it was either BS, KS, or Geodes dropping every 5m while I was otherwise killing a mob every 30s or so.

Same timer as seals. Only 1 can drop per 5 min or so. For geodes it's once per 5 min per day or weather, not mutually exclusive i.e the timers aren't shared for day/weather.

This was in Abyssea, so no possibility of weather and only three people in the party with no alliance. Maybe TH just adds in another slot, or Abyssea is just weird, because this happened a little earlier.

well, pool drop time is a bit over 5m. It's like 5:15 or something, so that *could* have happened like that.

That said, I've got an SS of two shadow geodes being in the pool outside of Abyssea, with just a party and no alliance, and I'm pretty sure there were only like 3m between the drops.

I had someone join the party between the drops though, so maybe the counter resets when party size changes or something? I dunno.

Actually, I think abyssea is just weird. I've also seen multiple seals drop inside abyssea, but never seen it outside. I'm not sure what causes it.

I just got a Sanus Ensis and was wondering if I could stick it as offhand for Almace, but currently I am using Swiftwing to cap haste.

My TP set is:

Almace/Swiftwing/X/Mantis eye
Ocelo (NQ ¬¬)/Rancor/Brutal/Suppa
Toci's/dusk +1/Rajas/Epona's
Atheling/twilight/mavi +2/athos

For a grand total of 26% haste. Any idea/advise on how to stick Sanus on it, or just forget about it?

More haste. HQ head/zelus. tiercel. Any number of haste bodies. Thaumas would be pretty awesome. Even the lvl 60/80 might be decent. Phos Belt +1. Thaumas Kecks Euxine Kecks +3

Meh, just bought the HQ head and going to figure where to get that last fraction of haste that will need to cap. No Neo-Nyzul gear soon since I don't have a group for the event, neither the desire to do it for now. BLU isn't a job I am on often, only for VW staggers when needed so, this will work out for now.

So I just noticed Magic Barrier didn't wear off changing sub in mog house (in San D'oria [s]), then tried changing main and it still stayed. Not exactly exploitable but kinda interesting.

Hey guys, I just 99'd my BLU the other day after coming back to the game from a 3 year break and I'm curious what spell/WS combos people are using for Chain affinity. Also, what spell should I be looking to efflux?

Judging by the spell sets, ect. that I downloaded earlier, I should be effluxing Quad. Continuum, but I have no idea about skill chains (or if they're even worth it anymore).

However judging from the fact that you've just come back, you don't have Chant du Cygne, so:

Requiescat -> Quad. Continuum



In a group you should be using Efflux on Bilgestorm. Solo, Heavy Strike or Quad. Continuum.

Anyone here have links to testing regarding Sub-zero Smash's damage boost with ice day/weather/staff?
I saw a note about it on otherwiki and lucky for me it was iceday when I went to fool around with it on TW mobs as /sch w/obi+cape. I did notice a drop in damage after iceday passed and stopped using hailstorm/obi/cape but it's all eyeballing at best on my part.

Welcome to the joy that is Blue Mage. Everyone gets a few spells that they cannot learn and will spend an obscene amount of time trying to get.

I went 1/206 on Dimensional Death. Think about that for a moment, Fomors before Dynamis have Dimensional Death as their only TP move. I had the proper skill level to learn it, it just took forever and a day to happen. The only thing you can do is bitch about it to get it out of your system, equip your Trainee Sword and Trainee Hammer, and feed those assholes TP until you finally get it. (I guess /WAR for Defender to reduce damage wouldn't hurt.)
