Fill the rest in wiht PDT/MDT gear, and movement for legs.
I would add in Chyrs. Torque for your magical damage group since you probably won't be using the TP anyway.
Thanks for the tips!
Right now I'm also wondering which spells should I set for reives and what is my role during that huge shitstorm.
Most of the time I get nothing because all the SAM's are killing the adds way too fast.
Should I AoE all the time? It's pretty easy to get raped if I spam AoE spells.
Usually when I'm playing BST I get a few updates of 150~200 Bayld, but the final update is always around 300~380. I'm still wondering how people say they get 1k~4k in Reives while I'm getting such small numbers. What's weird is that I always get a lot more exp than Bayld towards the end.
I tend to get about 1.5k bayld per colony revie. I go blu/whm, and I have the /rdm spells set (from proth's guilde on ffxiah), switching out blazing bound for battery charge.
/whm gets me stoneskin and reraise. I then buff up, wait for the path to the roots to be clear, then go wail away on the roots, spamming sudden lunge, delta thrust, amorph spikes, and heavy strike, and CDC when I have tp.
That seems to be the most effective for me, most of the time I am solo or with a few friends, and the roots die within 5-7 mins anyway. Most important thing for me is to stay alive, avoid aggro, and keep up with the group when they move to the next one in the order. I went with 2 friends a couple days ago, spent two hours doing 8 colony revies and got 15k bayld.
I am open to advice on getting more, most of the time my exp=bayld, meaning I am not doing enough damage.
I go more risk actually /sch or if I bring my mule /mnk or /war even /run for fun testing. My choice is head in and use whirl of rage/dream flower and yawn spam and get max bayld. My set is more in line with using a AOE stun sleep rotation. Works for me with gear sets of defense(pdt), fast cast, and spell interruption works wonders. Only place that wasn't fun was the turtles stunning me. But then I also fell cleave on drk/sam for max pts as well lol best when the area is crowded and the revives are going down quickly...
turtles in morimar are a bitch to deal, that shitty stun auto-attack they do and push back makes sleeping them again a real torture with all the spell-interrupts when AoE stun doesnt get them all.
I like to go war with my mule for cleaving or SCH/smn when in ally for healing. AoE avatar hastega with levi AoE healing + sch Aoe healing is very potent. and if you ever run out of MP you have sublimation or can just aoe aspir the roots to get your MP pool back. has worked wonders SCH/smn is definitly the best support you can get in reives when you want to support an ally.
am I the only one that doesn't have a mule? seems like everyone and their brother has one, and thus they don't need me when it comes to low man stuff, salvage, meebles etc.
Yeah everyone has mules now!
Howdy guys, so i haven't played blue in a long time lol, i just got it to 99, so i'm pretty much working on the 2-3 spells i didn't grab, and then anything past 90 (i haven't played it since 90 cap) but I'm bringing her out of retirement, and didn't want to shit up the universe.
I grabbed yugl's spellcast and have been changing the gear around a bit, but my real question is:
So for general all around soloing stuff (reives mainly at this point, and konschtat for hairpin/d.rings*) what is the standard spells. I was gonna go /rdm, but if /nin would be more useful i'll just stick with that.
It's fully merited : C.A recast 5/5; phys. potency 5/5 || 1 convergence, 1 diffusion, 3 enchainment, 5 assimiliation, but is that the current standard?

Spell set I generally use for Reive:
Whirl of Rage
Benthic Typhoon
Quad. Continuum
Delta Thrust
Heavy Strike
Sudden Lunge
Barbed Crescent
Triumphant Roar
Animating Wail
Cocoon
Battery Charge
Magic Fruit
MP Drainkiss
Dream Flower
Actinic Burst
Winds of Promy.
Blazing Bound
Fantod
Mortal Ray
Have been doing /WAR as of late since Whirl of Rage and Actinic Burst are usually adequate to get Dream Flower off and I always have a healer with me, however if you decide to go /RDM for extra safety, solo, or just Stoneskin/Phalanx/Aquaveil, then switch MP Drainkiss out for Empty Thrash to get Double Attack, Convert will cover the loss of MP Drainkiss if you end up running low on MP despite momentum bonuses. If you want to sacrifice some offense, you can swap out Barbed Crescent and Mortal Ray for MP Drainkiss and enough points on top of the two you'd have left anyway to set Chaotic Eye and Zephyr Mantle for Conserve MP depending on how defensive you want to get, otherwise spend the two points on whatever.
All great advice, but the problem I'm running into (and I don't have a mule either!) is that, at least on Shiva, it's VERY popular for WHMs and RDMs to cast Diaga on reive mobs. When I started out, my routine tended to be WoR > Actinic Burst > Dream Flower, go tag the root for a few rounds, and then focus on individual adds, doing WoR, Drape, Benthic, etc., resleeping when needed. People were really good about voking mobs they were pulling and tended to appreciate tons of sleeps. But in the last week or so, it's gotten to the point that I'd be dead within 30 seconds of the reive starting, and then those fuckers wouldn't even bother to raise me. I don't know if it's a problem on other servers, but the other night (NA primetime, but late enough that the JPs who were up early were joining in, so there were a ton of people doing Ceizak), literally 40 people wiped to the spider reive because no one could sleep anything.
What I tend to do now (which sucks, I'm saying up front) is focus on the root, and after a few minutes, start a routine of AoE dmg, especially Whirl of Rage, and when UL is up, Thunderbolt, and then immediately Dream Flower. I also tend to set Yawn as an emergency backup. It hits less mobs, and I get less points, but it beats being dead for 70% of the reive. I rarely bother now w/ Actinic Burst unless I've done the 4 root lap a couple of times and get a feel for the people, or it just gets me killed. I tend to /NIN when doing Ceizak just because of the rabbits + DW3 gives me room for more spells.
I'd love some advice on doing lair reives on BLU, but it seems like (again, could just be Shiva, combined w/ my general lack of experience doing SoA stuff) b/c of the Matamatas, it's all just PLD/DNCs with E/R shields.
Sounds like people being dicks to me. I don't know why anyone would diaga reive mobs... If that's really the case, then I don't really know what you can do about it, other than stop AoEing them, and let the diaga idiots die.
I used to go RNG/BLM with kraken club and spam wildfire for some pretty impressive damage, but I switched back to BLU simply because their AoE damage is absolutely amazing for bayld accumulation. Don't even have to worry about melee damage usually. One whirl of rage will cap bayld for me, and thunderbolt is delicious as well. PLDs will get pissed at you for taking their mobs, but their useless anyway, so who cares. Maybe they're the ones diagaing the mobs :O.
Best recommendation is just to go somewhere less crowded.
Could always full turtle up when that happens. Decent amount of pdt and def and you should gain enough survivability to lose hate and watch those clowns eat it first maybe. Maybe just grab a couple of mobs since really easy to cap baldy unless lots of idiots on roots
