In just a few castings of atra. libations, I've realized that it doesn't do ANYTHING unless you're missing health, I guess it's like drain (I haven't got BLM leveled, and haven't touched DRK in years so my understanding of drain mechanics are rusty), so don't cast it at full health or it'll do nothing. It's underwhelming. The whole update besides new dual wield spell, was underwhelming.

Is it just saying 0 or is it actually doing nothing? Drain will only display how much hp you recover but the mob will still lose full amount

Always thought they should change how it is displayed in the chat log. It's kind of silly seeing you get healed for 0, but it still does damage and just doesn't show how much it did.

a 100% uptime 15.625% DEF down isn't impressive? Bilgestorm + Sweeping Gouge's average defense down over time now overpowers any other job's defense down option in this slot when you alternate the two. With 0TP on Bilgestorm:

25% * .2 = .05

Bilgestorm average DEF down = 5%


25% * .5 = .125

Angon average DEF down = 12.5%


15.625% * 1.0 = 15.625%

Sweeping Gouge average DEF down = 15.625%


5 + (15.625 * 0.8) = 17.5% average DEF down for BLU

12.5 + 0 = 12.5% average DEF down for DRG

Here's a link on how to make it worth setting. tl;dr dont use it if you need support spells or can't for some reason swap to windbuffet +1 if you're receiving any outside haste buff

that's the kind of spell set you'd be looking at. free up 9 points and 2 slots by not setting DW4. could also drop sinker drill for less of a DPS loss, crit atk bonus I isn't very good and casting spells is useless again unless you can't engage.

Ok I'm not impressed that they gimped the values or that it's still lower than some other options. But yes it is a bit of an improvement over other blu options when better defense down options are down. Does it land well?

Also I think if you get max -sic recast bst can get about the same average maybe higher (not completely sure since I can't find what the duration of bilgestorm is other wiki says 30-60 seconds depending on which debuff and the talk page has a range of durations) though it would be probably less useful as it would cycle between a bit higher and nothing and you'd have to switch offhand axes for ready. Plus if you are even bringing a bst for debuffs you'd probably be using infrasonics.

Either way I wasn't saying it's unusable just I expected more especially after they changed it back to defense down lol

well to be a fair, a 100% uptime 20 - 25% DEF down would be stupid. I don't really compare BLU and BST debuffs since there's such limited ways to increase pet macc compared to BLU's macc, but on stuff where the pets can land debuffs then yeah they're ridiculously strong. As far as I've been able to tell, Sweeping Gouge doesn't have any broken qualities to it, the DEF down lands properly. I haven't gauged the duration yet but it's inconsequential, can fulltime it even if it's just 60s.

Oh, I see, that makes more sense than it not doing damage, I saw it "Sabishii heals for 0" and thought it didn't do anything because I was full health o_O it didn't display the damage it did in the chat log.

Kinda stupid they did it that way.

Historically Blue Mage has specialized in wind and water nukes with spells like Aqua Breath and Aero, oftentimes being the only way to deal that kind of elemental damage in the entire game

Its DEF down effect is pretty potent, so I'm expecting its properties would be crap... but you never know.

I think it's Fragmentation. Requiescat > SG was frag, CDC > SG was nothing, Savage blade > SG was nothing.

No, what SE should do is boost the damage of Dark Orb for AoE Dark coverage and focus on giving us an Ice nuke. We've got, like, one ice nuke and it was bad when we got it.

I'd like to see them boost all the spells that are grossly inefficient, particularly the ones that are somewhat contemporary.
