What spells are good for ballista? I find myself getting owned so much. I like Frypan and Pinecone bomb but I see people do stuff like Blastbomb alot. Anyone have any advice? Rdm sub all the way too, right?

I wouldn't recommend blast bomb or pinecone bomb since its soorta slow cast, anyone paying attention would easily avoid it unless they are close (and probably trying to kill you...?)

You can basically cast blastbomb all ballista and be really useful lol, it's especially lovely for those annoying people that /sprint and run up to hit people or run up to cast GA. Blastbomb And Ga Back Away!

These forums have just about any sort of information you will ever need about anything relating to FFXI. The only prerequesite is to search and find it for yourself. Those not able to do at least that much don't deserve to get spoon fed no matter what the question (unless I'm in a really good mood).

Secondly, I retired FFXI in January so I have very little clue about ToAU and was asking out of interest not that I couldnt find out myself ingame.

So Chaotic Eye, Awful Eye, and Light of Penance are the only gaze spells I know of . Not sure if Yawn is considered as gaze type (AoE gaze?)

However, conical spells is nice :3 I haven't tried Barrista yet with BLU.

Other notes, Firespit has great range for a magic type spell and I think it goes through shadows.

They will go through Uts, But not blink(Whm Spell) ; ; and Yeah Yawn is a kind of AOE Gaze

hmm well blastbomb has like a 2seccast time... but short range, maybe nice for croud control but if its someone running around poking at you, it will probably miss and leave a window open they cna zerg you in ;;

Pinecone bomb is a shorter time, but most everyone has some sorota blink up usualy and its long cast time is soorta bad.

If anything I prefer close combat spells that are near instant since mostly all your fights are face to face soorta speaking and the deciding battle is usualy either your MP vs the targets HP and or luck

Also I wouldn't trust any type of gaze attack, mainly due to the fact that most mostly rdm and blm.. and whm will be running from you when you even look at them.
Blue magic can interupt casting, leaving a mnk/nin or war/nin unsilenced will msotly leave the person to trying to cast blink, this leaves a person open to taking more damage while you take possibly less, this is where frypan becomes very usful since you can remove shadows almsot in an instant even if they recast+stunning them.

Yeah, usually gaze spells aren't too reliable since people usually take off once they see you casting anything, ya gotta catch them in the middle of a cast or something.

Pinecone bomb may take a while to cast, but the range makes up for it. It does somewhat decent dmg too @@ It was really funny when i launched @ a person sprinting. It was like a heat-seeking missle.

I'm a little hazy on this but when Blue Mage was first released didn't multi-hit spells only take one shadow off a mob?

If memory serves me right, it's been fixed.

Depends on if its "blink" or "utsumei" on a mob I belive... blink can absrob an entire spell while utsumei all shadows can be taken down with a 3hit+ spell.

too bad thats adjusted in ballista ;;

randomly I think "rapid shot" may give a chance to cast ranged attack spells faster (soorta like an arrow) I don't think anyones ever tried it though ^^;

since when is semantics a good way to look like you're not wrong

cone spells have "within a fan-shaped area" in their description, AOE have "within range".



Regardless, you probably just aggroed it, or it passed in front of you, or you have a <bt> macro and you had just claimed it, because I'm having a bit of a hard time hitting shit within an AoE.

I think it's possible to aggro stuff in two directions with Cone spells. If I remember correctly I read somewhere that if you use Claw Cyclone on a mob with your back turned against it you can hit mobs in both directions.
