I think givin the chance and with decent/good gear focused on... enfeebling/attack (cannonball and or verticle cleave) it can do well endgame.

The para effect is pretty strong from badbreath especially when it lands.

Their stuff is really handy in Dynamis. With a spread selection of things set to handle a wide variety of situations they can be really helpful. Lots of stuns, good Magical or Physical damage at the flick of a switch, a great AoE defensive buff and a variety of other good debuffs.

There's a limit on how long they can go all out for, but when they hit hyperdrive and go into MP-burn mode, they can apply a good spike of damage very quickly.

Was that done with INT MND gear or do Merits make it possible to enfeebles high end HNM that great?

No, luck does. A lot of mobs aren't immune to stuff, they just have a 95% resist rate. You can silence Kirin... 5% of the time.

so I'm sure its been answered somewhere in this thread...but 129 pages is a lot to skim through...
I've been in Caedarva on the Orderly Imps for what's felt like 3 hrs now w/ my blu static. Not one of us have been able to break the god damn horn yet.

    So I gotta ask:
what the heck do you have to do to break the horn ??

I've tried SA, SA mandible bite, SA sickle Slash, SA CA physical spell, spam sickle and mandible. I've tried everything, nothings working

I duo'd imps with a RDM. She mainly broke their horns with Vorpal Blade.

Took me about 6 imps to learn it. This was at the graveyard west of Nashmau.

I think you have to be on their left side. In any case, I used an Onikiri, stood there and hit up WS. Broke the 3rd Imps horn, he did Frenetic Rip, my friend learnt it. This was in the graveyard where Jazaraat is spawned.

I'm given to understand there are a couple of NMs who like to spam it too.

Took me hours to learn it from normal imps, and I learned this afterwards.. so allow me to be your savoir.

Have a friend accept the quest. Pop the NM, then logout. Kill it with other friends, hes not too hard. He spams all tp moves, including F.Rip. When its dead, have your friend log back in. If you learned it, youre done. If not, have your friend pop it again, and log out again. Repeat till learned.

Breaking a weapon is one outcome of a critical hit. Other than that it is total LUCK. Of course the more criticals you and your party do the better your overall chances of getting a break. Frenetic Rip may be difficult to obtain for many but Spinal Cleave is far worse.

Cant let this thread die. So im gonna spit out some random thoughts/tests

1- Defense affects cannonball the way attack affects melee, only to a certain point. Cocoon is a huge boost, bringing my defense to over 400 from around 275 /thf in str gear. The damage increase shows on Colibri. It does not however show on wild rabbits. Same with cocoon, same without cocoon. I started to think about why, so I tested. Cocoon boosted 0tp CASA damage on colibris from 700 to a consistant 1000ish. I popped a taco, hit 1100 a few times but thats it. I brought a bard for minne, still 1100's. Got ProIV, 1100s. Much like attack for melee, it only helps you to a certain point, based on your targets stats. That doesnt really prove anything itself, other then cannonball could just be peaking. So i tested its other modifier, strength. Base strength-> gear-> etudes showed a constant increase, getting to the high 1200s. The same str without cocoon/pro however, back down to 700s.

Defense = Cannonballs "Attack", str being the true modifier.

2- I have a theory. Healing magic affects blu healing spells, right? Right. Maybe elemental magic affects magical blu spells?

Easy to test, wild rabbit+any magic spell = static damage. Wild rabbit+any spell+elemental torque = more damage? Unfortunately, im cheap, and I dont want to buy one to test. And since i'm also lazy, i dont want to go bugging people to let me borrow one of their torques.

    You have your mission.

Problem is that healing skill affects cure spells by increasing the amount cured for a WHM. Elemental skill doesn't increase dmg, just the acc. So chances are you have to test for acc.

If you wanted to test that, simply apply dark magic skill to any of the Drain/Aspir-styled spells that BLU has. Simply enough to do just by changing to /BLM or /DRK.

I have a couple of questions.

    1. What role do you BLUs see yourselves taking in the endgame scene?

    2. What are your preffered spell sets for various battles based on your role in the HNM situation? (DD, Support, Tank?)

On cerberus i DD'ed with /thf sub and stoneskin the melee's which cut down lavaspit damage. Tiamat i was skillchaining with thf and sam doing Vertical cleave to Sharkbite for frag or Ramcharge to kasha for light.

This was done with just elemental seal, just normal bad breath landed like 1-3 debuffs usualy instead of 4-6 of'em

Just did Cerberus. With HQ staves Slow II was landing fairly often, maybe 50%ish anyway and usually stuck for full duration. Paralyze II was harder to land, maybe 33%ish with 5 ice merits and and paralyze would go off betwen 1 and 6 times or so, which isn't great, but worth the MP. Next time I'll get my AF tunic out of storage and see if that helps.

On a completely different note, anyone else notice any magical spells bypassing magic barrier? I don't know if it's a wind thing or what, but got Chaotic Eye and Frightful Roar to land on magic pots in sky after they had used magic barrier. Just to be sure I tried again making sure I timed them about 5 seconds after they used it so I knew I wasn't landing right before barrier, and not so long that it might have worn off.

I had also noticed before that while staves help magical spells, it seemed I got more resists doing Frightful Roar with Auster's than with sword. Is this a glitch maybe, and the game considers it physical? Would explain it landing despite magic barrier.
