Alright so the 1st frame you need 3 Imp. silver coins, and then the 2nd body frame do you need 3 silver or 3 mythril coins? I think i read also that you needed 1 gold coin for the 3rd and final, is that correct? i just got my 1st frame (Melee for tanking). How long do i have to wait for the quest for my 2nd body frame?

    PUP necrobump

despite all the PUP == DRG talk, I'm still interested in learning more about PUP, but all talk seems to have ceased in the last week. Rather than bash the bad, can anyone contribute any advice on best ways to xp PUP?

Enitsu, are you still lvling PUP? With the ability to double team weaker mobs with no xp bonus, has anyone made good xp chaining EM or T mobs solo or in small groups? Any offthebeaten path camps that seem good for PUPs fighting a dense concentration of lowercon mobs that normal xp parties ignore? Or anyone found a solid way to contribute to a party (aside from the deactivate nuke spam that will likely be patched)? Anyone have any direct experience with a higher lvl PUP that was interesting?

Wow @ that guide. It's so.. organized.

Oh, and I just recently hit 44. (I stopped trying to rush it because well, no new abilities past 25.. not really much to look forward to, so I'm taking my time.) I solo'd to 37.. off worms mainly, it wasn't too bad. After awhile the Mage frame takes over in damage VS the ranger. The only situation you'd swap back is when the mob is strong to the highest spell your PUP knows (which is what he'll always cast). And being that you could deactivate/activate for full MP.. well yeah.
I just hit 123 (I think) magic skill so Stormwaker is casting Water2 now for about 108 on anything (Except flies.) and just spams the spell. At THIS level, PUP with automaton is great with damage, but I"ve only been able to parse against LV40-44 War/nins, Nin/wars, a DRK and a million BLUs. But.. chances are whenever some new attachments are released and new frames, that's when the job will get sweet. I'd imagine seeing a lot of interesting status effects or scanning ability things and crazy attachments needing 6fire or something.

    PUP: deactivate spam onry?

enitsu, you ref the deactivate for mp trick. do you spam deactivate/reactivate now as your only action in battle once it starts casting spells? Is the power simply too much to resist? I just fear this will get patched and want to understand how the puppet is without deactivate spam, plus taking out the puppetmaster's ability to do anything else just seems unfun and monotonous. Without the magic deactivate trick, is PUP still capable of putting up a good fight? Despite the low h2h skill, are you meleeing alongside your pup and finding that it adds up? Have you tried soloing past 37 to any degree of success?

I agree it seems like there is more in store for PUP to come. I'm hoping for something unique to make it stand out in a party situation rather than being a generic adaptable cog.

that's one of my biggest concerns also.
as well as the fact that a lvl37 puppet's weapon skills are the same (even damage-wise) as a lvl17 puppet.

on a happier note though, shield-bash is delightful.

    Manuever combos for nuking

I may get flamed for daring to quote info I dug up on Alla, but what can i say, i learned something that sounds really useful there, and noone is talking about PUP here:

"if you cast dark then light before you deploy there is a almost a 100 percent chance that the first and sometimes even second spells your mage puppet casts will be its highest nuke. I have no idea why. I just know its almost fail proof. It gets those stupid enfeebles out of your way if you dont need them."
WARNING: alla link. use at own risk

sounds like people are able to keep their puppet nuking from the start by keeping dark and light up, with some saying its important to keep it limited to 2 active manuevers rather than 3. In any event, it sounds like there is a lot more finesse in the PUP than has been widespread, and quite possible that a skilled puppetmaster can be an effective DD without the ADD spam trick.

I've been experimenting with solo PUP/NIN, since PUP has access to a lot of +eva gear (at least at my level, 32), has an Evasion Bonus trait, and has a B skill in evasion (which, sadly, is a PUP's highest skill).

So far, I've been trying it out, working my way up to T. At 32, I can pretty much easily plow through anything up to EM. Anytime my puppet needs more MP, I can just deactivate/reactivate. T is a little trickier since your puppet can pull hate off you if you aren't careful about how you use it. On T, you may want to let your puppet enfeeble at the start, then put it away until you need a cure, then bring it out again, light maneuver, and deploy for the cure. If you think hate is solid enough, you can keep it out or you can put it away again.

One thing I did notice is that your puppet's hate doesn't seem to completely disappear if you deactivate and reactivate. So that is why you have to be careful, even if you do the activate/deactivate spamming.

I'm pretty sure all hate disappears, only that when you get hit your hate lvl lowers (and blinking hits too) so it'll be easier for your AtM to catch the heat after it does something.

Then it might be slightly bugged, because when I got my mage puppet, I skilled up its magic skill as RDM/PUP. I'd go to some corner in Qufim, put up stoneskin, find a pugil, whack it a couple times, and then activate/deactivate spam puppet nukes for skillups on them. I figured since I whacked it a couple times first, no single nuke should get hate, however I noticed after a few times of activate/deactivate spamming that my puppet would occasionally get the attention of the mob. That, plus hate behavior during PUP/NIN fights, made me think that hate might not be completely cleared upon deactivation/reactivation.

But perhaps something else can explain it.

I used to hit it as well, but 2-3 hits isn't enough to produce enough hate that a single attack won't take it off it seems. It might be bugged but I dunno, I tend to cast enfeebles with enmity (sleep II > dispel > bind > blind > sleep get's alot of hate) then go to town without damaging the enemy myself. Only time my AtM was hit was when I had 2-3 Siege bats beating on me and my HP was dropping, but it didn't matter cause the AtM would cast Cure III on me - anyway, after a while it casted blizzard and got hate and got hit... I can only assume cause it was cause I was getting battered but your story is a little weird since you had SS up...

Maybe it is a case of my enmity just wearing off enough that the puppet takes hate with a single nuke, but it just seemed a little off to me. I'm also a WAR and a SMN, so I have a good feel for enmity. SMN especially helps awareness of delicate enmity balances, if you're into soloing, though probably not as much as BST. Yet, something just made me think the puppet had more hate than it should after continuous deactivation/reactivation. It's odd.
