Ok, straight tanking LS's, how do you deal with Wing? It's more damage than Jorm and Tia, and sleep on top. Where do you position in the room?

This really has nothing to do with the new rules (as others in the thread have mentioned), this was always the case with Vrtra. The shared hate between summons and Vrtra is insane, many died still chasing the tank. When an add popped, it was pretty easy for them to nuke hate. Under the new rules, we had adds at 40-50% still beating on the kiters.
Lullaby/Grav on the bones and Sleep on the ghosts was the solution to the whole room imo.
Everyone uses poison pots, 100% of the time. I've never been in a straight-tanked Vrtra but I just did this on kited ones anyways for the hell of it.Originally Posted by Aodh

I dont disagree that the difference with the claiming rules has more to do with alliance strat than anything. The point I was trying to make, is that before the rule change we use to have a kiting pt and smn pt in the Vrtra alliance and the BLMs were in an outside alliance. We ran Vrtra in circles and it died.
After the rule change we had more trouble than ever controling the deaths of the adds/summons. We tried straight tanking and found it was easier for the BLMs to -ga down the summons with fewer issues. We had no issues getting Vrtra down, but it took 2 weeks of wiping at 2-3% from flails, to get the final push correctly.
Anyone in the range of Vrtra thats not tanking, needs to have posions on 100 percent. The issue with straight tanking is we made sure peoplw understood their placement. Some people are allows in wing range, and people who dont need to be, were told to stay away unless they were asked to come forward for whatever task. IE someone got lazy with posion and we needed a back up WHM to wake them up. We also cycled in and out the tank PTs WHM. Whenever a tank was charmed they were dropped and replaced by another tank. We always had a PLD/WAR in their, we have 3 main PLDs, we also, used a NIN/WHM, and used various tank extras if multiple tanks were stuck in charm, or some combo of raise sickness/charm. The main thing I liked about straight tanking was we could control who got hit by wings. With Kiting it was always a gamble, and if someone wasnt hit by a wing for awhile they would have a chance of getting lazy with posion pots.
I am not saying this is te end all be all strat, its just what we tried and liked, after our old strat didnt work with summons at 40% chasing tanks, instead of BLMs, and shit slept all over the kiting area, giving the BLMs no direct targets.
What could be causing problems is the *number* pf people (or more specifically the number of distinct parties/alliances) trying to claim the summons. If you have more than one alliance of add help, sometimes multiple entities trying to claim a mob engages the sort of wonky claim system. If you are the only person in the room with a cookie the puppy comes right to you. If there are 4 people with cookies the puppy has to sit and think a bit about who's cookie looks the best. However, if you just have one group who's sole job it is to claim mobs it seems to cause fewer problems. My suggestion is to have someone like a RDM/drk in the main add alliance that does nothing but follow vrtra and stun or bind or gravity the pops as they come up and try to cfh them.
any back corner is fine. And no not everyone uses poison pots 100%, since 95% of the dmg is goign to be sam and smn just position out of range of aoe. Run in BP/WS run out. Sam logout and /shutdown after 2-3 WS. So only tank pt and the 2 stunners in range use pots. But not worth the hassle. Like I said b4 one pop in the room runs around and nudges him or one of his summons moves him and wham flail.Originally Posted by Aodh
