*ahem* Begin angry rant in defense of Milky... *ahem*

First things first, lets get this one simple truth into our heads right now. It is a G U I D E... that's right folks, a guide. Is it ment to be the 100% know-it-all/tell-all bible to all things FFXI for newbies? No... Is it the choice of the newbies if they want to follow it to the letter? Yes... Do you think that someone like Milkman is going to be 100% outright perfect all the time? Of course not... who is perfect? Hell, I've been playing now for over 2 years, and their's still facets of my game that I'm not 100% perfect on. Does that, by your definition, mean that I completly suck at my job? I certainly don't think so... and I certainly don't think Milky's work should be outright trashed just because theirs a few rough edges here and there.

Now, for everyone who wonders why Milkman dislikes endgame so much, let's first hear it from the horses mouth.

    http://vanadiel.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3146509

And now, evidence to support these conclusions (all of which are Siren specific).

    http://www.theorderls.com/phpBB2/viewto ... n&start=15

    http://www.theorderls.com/phpBB2/viewto ... ight=siren

It's shit like this that makes even someone like myself retch in disgust, and why people like Milky don't get involved in endgame activities to begin with. I think you'd all agree with this conclusion...

    Endgame = Drama

Just remember this fact, he is a journalist, and it's his job to write what he thinks. Weither you agree with it or not is up to you... and if you don't, why not try rebuking his opinion in a meaningful way. Rather than the (sadly typical for these boards) common...

What a turd burgler milkman is
Please people, for your own sake... grow up and act like a human being.

    *Rant over*

journalist aren't supposed to write what they think. They're supposed to stick to cold, hard facts and present both sides of an issue.

Editorial staff are paid to write their opinions, like someone reviewing a game, or writing a column.

Milk's guide falls into the hard facts category, and as such, fails as a piece of journalism.

Besides, drama or not, people that frequent BG have a lot better grasp of game mechanics than Milk does. Any person writing a guide should do a bare modicum of research, especially if they're covering a game that quite frankly, only a select few can really say they've experienced all it has to offer.

lol Kimiko. You yourself were in TMO when you caused yourself to flail by SA + Gekkoing Fafnir @1%..or what you thought was 1%....and now you bring up some bullshit topic claiming it was IN's fault? You know that was false, so why even bring it up as a reason why "endgame is drama-filled". Endgame is drama-filled because people cry like babies when the stakes are high, and in turn post anonymous bullshit thats false, because their leader is too spineless to let them do otherwise, and shit like this happens. Tons of people steal Harnesses, random gear, and there's all sorts of "drama" associated even outside of endgame. Its just hardly ever brought to the spotlight. People create drama regardless of the circumstances surrounding them.

Did you miss the OTHER topic ( http://www.theorderls.com/phpBB2/viewto ... highlight=), where he got flamed to all hell for the elitist attitude he mirrored, (lol I get to play games before you) that he so self-righteously rebuked just days before? There's a big difference between someone not being perfect, and someone going out of their way to write about shit they obviously have no knowledge of. Milkman has to face the fact that until he wants to get his hands dirty, stop making guides about things he chooses to be ignorant of.

Funny how the ONE PERSON THIS WHOLE ARGUMENT WAS BASED ON (and on something said in jest), "Ayaa" is still in our LS. Wow must not be too bad here in IN.

People who write guides on a subject should ideally try to know what they're talking about.

I think we all agree that Milkman doesn't...so onto plan B

Failing the first, people who write guides on subjects they aren't familiar with, if they have any business doing such a thing, have the responsibility of gathering opinions from people who likely do have familiarity in the subject, instead of just making up bullshit and excusing themselves of spreading blatant misinformation because they don't like "the drama" attached to experiencing such subjects first-hand.

And apparently he fails at this, too, since his guide is so often blatantly misinformed.

He doesn't like drama so he avoids endgame.

I don't like eating shit food so I don't go to McDonalds (insert shitty restaurant here)

If I wrote a column about what restaurant serves good food, people would fucking expect me to know what good food tastes like.

Not liking something does not grant you the right to be ignorant about it if you are planning on teaching others. That's like a teacher saying "i'm not going to teach my kids about women in history because I don't like them, they cause drama."

I'm amazed anyone could defend this.

Your reply makes it seem like everyone was launching a personal attack on Milkman when I'd imagine the majority of the people who replied have no damn idea who he is and are just horrified that such rubbish is being published on the internet. There are six pages of multiple extracts here highlighting how idiotic and completely and utterly wrong the "guide" is. Your argument that he is simply a journalist doing his duty was covered perfectly by Edgarfigaro above and your justification that him not agreeing with the ideology of end game and therefore not being involved in it gives him the right to pen this bullshit is absurd. It's been a while since I was involved in end game now for more-or-less the same reasons and, like him, I play solely for my friends; does that mean I could go put a guide up somewhere telling Summoner's to sub Dragoon for two pets?

New players are impressionable and this sort of guide is going to be followed to the letter by many noobs, pleading ignorance is pathetic.

    What Russta said.

But more seriously. Where does he get off thinking that he has the authority/knowledge to post such a pompus guide? He needs to keep his ideas to himself for the better of the game.

I've meet Milkman in real life he's a cool guy, and I know he will be upset with me for saying the following:

Kimiko, your no where near 100% on any facet of your main job (blm) the fact we had to threaten you with Raise1 any and everytime you die cause of your blanant disregard for hate-control and no desire to maintain any kinda of a 75 exp buffer.

Does milkman know alot about actively playing in end-game? no
Does milkman know how to help lots of people and be a leader for people in events that 90% of players may never experience? yes I do believe so

If he's really that uneducated about endgame, or just the game in general, he shouldn't have written the guide. Period.

End-game may be drama but at least we know how to play. It's been 3+ years, come on. Not sure if anyone's pointed this one out yet, as I skipped 2-3 pages:

    Corsair (COR):
QUEST NAME: LUCK OF THE DRAW
    Starting NPC: Ratihb (J-12)
    Location: Aht Urhgan Whitegate
    Key stat: Unknown

A Ranger with a gambling habit, a Corsair's abilities can have significant impact on a party's fortunes. Like a Bard or Summoner with less predictable results, a COR's Black Jack-style gambling moves can improve job-specific abilities, like enhancing a Warrior's Double Attack, or even restoring an entire party's 2-hour moves. A Corsair "rolls" to determine the effectiveness of each spell he casts, although these "spells" don't actually use MP. Want to make a Samurai's Meditate ability stronger? A COR will try to roll an 11 on a "Samurai Roll" without going over, with 11 the strongest result and 1 having the least powerful effect. It remains to be seen just how complex and busy this job becomes at higher levels, and just how effective it is at lower levels (various job roll dice are acquired as the Corsair grows in level), but even Square admits this is the most technical of the three new ToAU jobs. Extended playtime with the Corsair indicates a lower than average accuracy level, making the COR more useful as a Bard-type party buffer than as an actual damage dealer, so players thinking of joining parties as a damage dealer plus bonuses should think twice.
Maybe not many of you have corsair relatively high so...

Corsair's are just like summoners because they give bards a run for their money (duh).
Dice most certainly do not give job traits like double attack, they only enhance them if you already have it. AM I RIGHT GUYS?
Samurai roll doesn't give store TP+, it enhances meditate, despite what the description of the dice clearly states.
Up until lv ~43 a good Corsair can outdamage and out-tp every job but a well-equipped ranger but don't invite them for DD!

Guides like this are the reason I'm stuck pre-50 on Corsair. I havn't had a decent party in 6 days.
