ahh, you say the extra +5 shield skill is not noticable on hnm's and such, then why is the +5 sword skill so great, would that not be the exact same, especially since pld's ahve the same skill in sword as shield

all im hearing is "baaaaaaaaaaahhh, baaaaaaaaaahhh"

I picked suppa because my shield skill was underleveled by 40 skill when I beat the bc, and I figured the sword skill would actually be useful right away, while I'd have to wait months for the shield skill to actually do anything.

A year later, and my shield is still not capped. I think I made the right choice.

Uhh...the +5 sword skill is for merit pts and such...since when do PLDs melee HNMs? lawl.

ninja edit: and +5 sword skill is valuable because it's (arguably) adding another level's worth of weapon skill to your character. It allows warrior's to bring their sword skill up to A(-? not sure) skill, and can allows PLDs to have something in the range of 304 sword skill if you cap merits and get all the approriate gear. That's high enough where you can use meat all day long and do some good damage as pld/nin.

Because you should be using Ethereal and Hades+1 on HNMs!

Knight's earring is fucking garbage. I regret getting it. VIT is worthless on anything that matters. +5 Shield skill is not going to make a big difference. If you really want VIT, shell out the cash for Robust Earring. If you want shield skill, get a Buckler Earring. Most of the other earrings have alternatives too. Suppanomimi though, is the only earring with Enhanced Dual Wield.

To answer OP's question, Get Suppanomimi. If you get Knight's Earring, you'll regret it.

If they have neither, they shouldn't consider themselves "career PLDs".

The thing is, your DM earring is a permanent choice. If you're getting something that can be "replaced" in that slot, I would consider getting something else there. I "pimped" my NQ pigeon earrings for a long ass time, and once I got the gil I bought myself the Hades+1, and got the Ethereal as soon as was humanly possible to get one

If I had ended up getting the Knight Earring back in the day, I would now have a wasted mog house space and one less good earring to use on my NIN.

That's just nonsense. The simple fact is this game is built on personal preference and customization. There is no defining set up for Paladin, or any job for that matter.

I've met *some* Paladins with gear that would take me lightyears to obtain, yet they are hardly capable of playing the job, even with the advantage of supposedly better gear.

What I do believe is that certain gear is better for an individual based on their playstyle, the party/alliance composition, and their strategy. Having an Ethereal earring will count for dick on an HMN if you have a set up that provides you with more than enough MP refresh. So I'm not persuaded when someone claims that a certain earring or ring or whatever is the only way to go, and that's why I still play this game, because I don't have to be the same as everyone else.

    EDITED for clarification.

honestly this argument goes either way, if you want to be a "true" PLD then get Knight's Earring, it isnt versatile whatso-fucking-ever because ANY other job will honestly get more use out of suppa than knights...many PLDs take up NIN to 75 though and the versatility of having "Dual Wield" for PLD/NIN and NIN/WAR is nice....but i chose knights cause i've gone PLD full time for almost 2 years, i dont regret it but sometimes i wish i had just gone NIN first

hades +1 is a joke.....why waste 15M on 2 enmity when you can get 7/8 from ra/ex head pieces and put 50hp or something more useful in earring slot?

Because it's the most enmity available in the ear slot for PLD? More enmity is never a bad thing for a tank

more than enough MP refresh for PLD would be when you can cast Cure IV every single time recast is up and not lose MP.

i think Cure IV is about 90 MP per cast. i don't know what recast is, i'll make up 15 seconds for easy math. 15 seconds = 5 tics of Refresh. 90 MP in 5 tics = 18 MP/tic.

until you get that, you don't have "more than enough MP refresh" for PLD.

cause you can get 7/8 from head slot AND have 2 on earring slot. and Max HP is not always something useful, it depends on what you are fighting.

it might not be worth the price but few things are when you look simply at the stats it provides.

i'll be honest, last week i tried buying one for 7M cause the price was so low but i wouldnt go any higher than that....i dont usually have issues keeping hate though, i'd rather wear Ethereal/Knights or Ethereal/Cassie and spam Cure IVs all over the place

All the reasons have already been said here but get Suppanomimi. As Paladin, Ethereal Earring is an automatic choice and I then have Intruder Earring, Waetoto's Earring and Morukaka's Earring to fill the other slot on top of the option to buy a Hades Earring+1/+2 or Cassie Earring. No one needs Knightly Earring and all the stats on it can be bought if need be.

I've never ever heard someone say "I regret Suppanomimi".
I have however heard plenty of people say "<Notsuppanomimi> sucks, I wish I didn't pick it"

So, statistically, your chances of regretting your choice if you don't pick Suppanomimi are infinitely higher than if you do pick Suppanomimi.

    PS. Knights Earring is trash.

CureIV is 88 MP per cast and has a recast time of either 4 or 5 seconds. PLD is not meant to cure themselves alone, and that's really what I meant by more than enough MP for Paladin. So really you'd be getting alot less there. A Paladin still wouldn't be able to keep up.

Krandor, the extra enmity can be a bad thing when you're swapping hate with another tank and they can't pull it off you. Then boom, you're dead, and now you are down a tank and a WHM has to waste a few hundred MP to raise you.

In a similar situation, at the time CoP was ending, I was pretty much aiming to become a career PLD. So I picked Sattva. I hardly even use PLD now. Wheres my Rajas Ring for my WAR/NIN? I hate my life. And if the game wasn't so impossibly hard to re-equip the same items I have on another char, I would remake just to get a Rajas and Suppa...its probably still even worth it w/o a ridill on a new char. ////end emo.

Don't make my mistake. You will not be a PLD the entire time you play the game. Go for flexibility.
    OUCH lol

At least Busha is somewhat useful, er... kinda.. I guess?

    but SATTVA??? LOLOL

I picked Tamas, and I do occasionally regret it (see: everytime I play NIN or RNGlol). But for every LS I have been in since being a BLM 75, I have gone to events as BLM 99.9% of the time, so it was a worthy investment. Tamas is of equal calibur to a mage as Rajas is to melee, and since I go to HNM fights as Mage, seems like I made the right choice. (This is what I tell myself when I can't sleep at night anyway)
