There's only a couple things that bug me about this expansion. The most glaring thing I've seen is requiring a Wamoura Cloth for the first Puppetmaster upgrade and also making that cloth be the main component in many synths.

The drop rate off the bug things is horrible and the guild only sells a couple a day. Kinda shitty that a job needs a 2-4 million gil cloth to level up past 10 without being gimp. It just makes leveling PUP a huge money sink and keeps some armor (even though it's not spectacular) out of peoples hands.
The wamoura cloth is used in getting the mage puppet, which can be done at lvl 10, 20, or 30, depending on when you choose to get it. It is not a requirement at level 10.

no one said mage-type has to be the first upgrade. from what i've seen the mage type is the worse anyway.

I think it can be good, if used correctly.

Personally i'm looking forward to soloing as pup/nin (post utsusemi) and using the mage puppet to enfeeble/cure for me. Will that be effecient? I dunno yet, but ill find out

Still need a Wamoura cocoon for close combat, but they have already peaked and are going back down.

thats 1/6th of a cloth though.

I agree with both you and the above poster, by the way, that it wasn't well thought out. Just clarifying for you.

Oo, sorry. I'm not a puppetmaster, I just get to hear about the hellish upgrade from people. D: The horrible short supply still sucks for them either way.

Forty people camping the cloth guild every day at 6:00 is testimony that there's something a little off.

Agreed. They're not hard to camp... for level 75s. Level 30's who are unlocking puppetmaster as their first advanced job though, would be screwed, at least until the market calms down.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

/agree on the cloth. I can see why people wanna xp their npcs there for getting Imp points, but like others said I'm tired of people lvling their npcs in xp zones, and when (if) they get to lvl them in the new areas I forsee no more xp chain 300+.

Only shortcoming I see that wasn't mentioned was that there's no armor storage npc in the new areas (or at least I have yet to see anyone find one). It's not like a huge issue (use the tele-jeuno guy then warp back), but considering most people are spending a good 90% of their time now in the new areas I'm surprised they didn't put one in.

Only thing I can think of is they either a. wanted to see how the lag on their servers were with the mog lockers first, or b. it's going to be sort of like the safehold where we'll need to get to a certain mission first before we can use the armor storer.

only shortcoming is the extremely low barrier of entry into the new city. Whitegate would be paradise without all the level 1 guildcamp mules and random noobfgts migrating from lower jeuno to spam /sh with their thoughts on absolutely everything. Thank god for Safehold, I guess.

I was really looking forward to meet up with my old buddy Tenzen and finishing him off for good this time, other than that, I'm really pleased with the new content.

Well, unfortunately in game design its really hard to get things both ways. SE made COP have a much higher barrier of entry, and the resounding cursing that came from the community was to not do that shit - the vast majority of server populations didn't get to enjoy the content.

So with TAU, they set out to make what most of the players actually wanted - a brand new city, a continent all its own with tons of gorgeous zones and higher level mobs, 3 new jobs, etc. The barrier to experience this content HAD to be set low to appease the player base. Just imagine if they had made the bar higher, how many players would have said "Ok, I waited for this expansion to see how things would turn out, now I'm going to WoW."

Personally, I have zero complaints. In direct comparison to COP, TAU is a fucking home run that hasn't even landed yet...it's fucking orbiting around the god damn planet.

people will thin out of Whitegate since all the surrounding zones have nothing for players under Lv 50 except a few quests.

when they're all done, the lowbies will go back to Jeuno.

since TaoU came out I've developed a new appreciation for Promys I don't want to call people GS but when you see the same people farming karakuls for 24 hours, it's suspisious.

    One thing im dissapointed with.

True, lots of shit to charm , but im lvl75 and there's no decent solo spot in ToaU. All mobs are either

    a) EP-DC and charmable
    b) T-VT and charmable (but a bst doesnt charm these mr Milkman)
    c) camps with mobs too far apart or aggro in between them to be reliable to charm

Or something along those lines. I found 1 EM tiger in the midst of a ton of T tigers in Ayaweeda, and the only other mobs worth fighting would be the marbols, but they were all DC/EM . Basically all I can do as a BST is farm zones, but I dont wanna farm, I wanna solo xp. I've visited all the zones, havent explored all aspects of it but still I can rough out what we can/cant do. BST still cant join a party with a charmed pet, we still only have shitty carrie to reply on (which parsed to be 3% of the damage in my last weapons party, that's with AF2 gloves, so I didnt bother summoning him anymore) Oh well.

    I strongly disagree.

Think back to the CoP release: You bought your shiny new box, ran home, and installed it, and what was the first bit of new content you experienced? Most likely, it was an 18-person pickup Promyvion raid populated by gibbering idiots who didn't have gear, didn't have the cutscenes, and didn't have a clue. You spent upwards of an hour trying to herd cats until the whole group fell apart because people got sick of waiting. Eventually you give up and go explore the other new outdoor zones that you can't really do anything in yet, while wondering exactly why you paid money for this.

Compare this to ToAU: You install it, log in, trade a testimony/coffer key/money to an NPC in Jeuno, and the next thing you know you're ON A BOAT TO A NEW CONTINENT WITH LIKE EIGHTY OTHER PEOPLE AND EXPLORING A BRAND NEW NEW CITY AND UNLOCKING NEW JOBS OMG AND DOING ASSAULT MISSIONS AND EXPLORING NEW ZONES AND GOING TO PARTIES AND GETTING LAID BY HOT GIRLS OMG OMG all within the first two or three hours.

If I get to do fun stuff right away, I'm willing to deal with a few idiots and/or just filter out /shout.

Yea... even now, amost a week after, im still as excited as I was when I fight picked it up from the store.... I give MAD credit to SE on this one... When the worst shortcommings are how EASY it was to get to the new world... and a couple shouts from new people... then you know they did a fantastic job.

    /salute <SquareEnix>
