Almost every DRK I've partied with in end game merit subs Thief, and then when the mob is at about 5-10% rips some SATA WS that does like 800-1000 when the mob only has like 200 hp left, so he looks good on the parser. I'm not saying it happened here, but... yeah.

Yeah I see this a lot with jobs that have single hit wss, not necessarily on purpose, but they don't have to worry about the bad feeling you get doing asuran for 200 instead of 1300 because the first hit killed the mob
It's the same big waste in both cases but it's so much more obvious with multi-hit wss... not fair!

Heh, I was actually thinking about this last night when I Slug Shotted a Torama with 6% HP left when they usually take off 14% because my set Monk parses every party.

    Maat Cap 7 jobs now?

sorry, didn't want to make a topic about Maat's cap so figured I would ask this in here.

friend of mine was told by someone that Maat's Cap now only requires 7 jobs. Is this true? Or just BS.

also does anyone know if the new jobs count toward Maat's Cap or is it still just the original 15?

I am under the assumption there are no new job testimonies or Maat fights as of yet. correct?

Friend of mine(boentiful) has 12~ jobs at 75 and no word of cap, so my guess is BS. And right no maat fights for new jobs as of yet so no need to take them to 75 for cap.

Well, Square specifically said that there is no Genkai 5 for the new jobs, that if you have to do it with another job at the current time to get past it with one of the 3 new jobs, so my guess would be that no, you cannot get Maat's cap by having one of the three new jobs as one of the "15" jobs you need done.

I highly think its bullshit that they would change the number of jobs needed to get the cap, especially after all that hoorah they made after that one guy got Maat's cap, and they gave him like 100m lol.

By the way, nice Forum name. Rydia is like my favorite FF character ever, so like, I hope you're not a retard or something, that would really put a damper on it =p

People are saying you need the 11 original jobs and advance (not Zilart/ToA job).
Basically: War, Mnk, Thf, Whm, Blm, Rdm, Pld, Drk, Rng, Bst, Brd, smn(?)

Sorry if I'm wrong, I'm just repeating what I heard.

I thought there were 12 original jobs?

    -Warrior
    -Monk
    -Thief
    -Black Mage
    -White Mage
    -Red Mage

The original jobs you start out with, also the original jobs from FF1.

    Then...

    -Paladin
    -Dark Knight
    -Summoner
    -Bard
    -Ranger
    -Beastmaster

I'm not sure about Summoner, so you might be right Kaylia.

I'm not sure either, and that's why I put a "?" next to it. I know it was added with Zilart but everyone could unlock it. The catch was that all avatar and AF were in Zilart area, meaning you couldnt play it for real in normal FFXI

It's not like you actually use summons till you hit 70 anyway.

    Sadly true.
Cap was still lv 60 when RoZ was released. I guess carbuncle only was fine back then.

From what I read, Summoner was not released until the patch right before the Zilart expansion. So technically it is not a Zilart job, but it is still not an original extra job.

Summoner was always in the game; it's just that the avatars came with Zilart. Go go Carby + Elementals only!

Maat's Cap requires all the jobs that are available when the level cap was raised to 75 (requiring his fight)
which would be every job minus PUP, COR, and BLU

Summoner wasn't always in the game.

The only jobs that have always been in the game are WAR MNK THF WHM BLM RDM.

The rest were all patched in at some point, just SMN, BST, RNG, BRD, PLD and DRK were patched in before Zilart, while SAM, DRG and NIN were Zilart jobs.

I was under the impression that Summoner was released after Zilart, hence the use of Zilart areas for the AF and coffer keys.

I was also under the impression that BST, RNG, BRD, PLD, and DRK were in the game upon release, but were only unlockable with the quests at lv30 (same as they are now).

Edit: missed this. That seems kind of odd. :/

Another Edit: Summoner is last on any job listing you find in FFXI. They're in the following order now, including the new jobs:

    WAR
    MNK
    WHM
    BLM
    RDM
    THF
    PLD
    DRK
    BST ?
BRD ? not sure if these 3 are right
    RNG ?
    SAM
    NIN
    DRG
SMN <- notice. this means it was announced after the expansion jobs were, according to what we see here:
    BLU
    COR
    PUP

We should send someone on Alla to dig info in that "What was FFXI before NA" thread. Oh, and I'm not going there.

Summoner was released a week or two before RotZ was released. Anyone could get a Carbuncle Ruby from leeches (and lol@half the server doing that at the same time) and trade it in for the job but the one and only avatar they got was Carbuncle. When RotZ was actually released it was possible to fight the avatars from the get go only the level cap was 65, Bar~ spells took forever to cast and didn't work, there was no Ninja, no stun, no flash etc so winning the fights was a real accomplishment.

For all intents and purposes, consider Summoner a RotZ job and it's odd release as a marketing ploy.
