The controller will contain a small amount of memory, which can be written to by the console (via Bluetooth) during the game. This will usually be used to store small sound files which can be heard via the controller's small internal speaker.

In demonstrations this system could be used, for example, to simulated the sound of gun shots coming from the controller when fired; when you put this together with the force feedback, it creates a game experience which surpasses anything we have been able to create before.

In other experiments we created a simple "Chinese whisper" style communication game which one player could whisper into the controller (we were even able to be in another room when doing this) and then the sound would be sent via the console to another player's controller which they could then hear. Great fun!

Nothing we didn't expect, really. They've coughed up pricing, though. The Revo will launch for $250, and downloadable games will run $2-3 for NES, $5 for SNES, and $10 for N64(read: Wait for hackers to get ROMs working). Metroid Prime 3 won't be a launch title, but will show up sometime in 2007.

Sony's press conference starts about now. Let's see if they can pull a rabbit out of their hat and hock the PS3 for $500 or less.

Im happy that they're making twighlight princess Wii compatible, the controller aiming looks very interesting. Also the tennis is gonna be a hit at my house, everyone loves mario tennis, with this controller it'll just add that much more sense of fun.

Yep. But it still looks like the PS2 controller so it wont be as well designed for motion sensing.

They added the "6th dimension" for games by letting the controller be motion sensored. Also, you can use the PSP as an extra screen for features....both sound familiar to me.

Only Sony is classy enough to steal something and then charge $300+ more for it. XD

still can't get over the name come on Wii..... sorry but i'm seriously WTF'ing at them for that.
At least they didn't slap 360 to it. God, like Xbox wasn't a bad enough name. EXTREME-CUBE amirite? However, I wish they would just take back the Nintendo main name(before they dropped it for Gamecube). Either way, Wii will be a nice to remember and all that.

    Back to topic.

    Most promising of all next-gen.

600 dollars for a 60 gig PS3? Fawk that... Only thing I want Wii for would be Zelda prolly.. and Xbox 360.. meh.. Looks like I'm not bothering with the new systems for awhile

    Edit: however!

"PSP users will be able to play emulated PSone games booting up directly from the memory stick. He navigates through the PSP menu and boots up a game. Galaga comes up as the game loads--it's Ridge Racer. "

that makes me happy. If it'll be ANY PSone game I'll be damn happy SNES, NES, etc ROMS + PSOne? WIN!

600$, hmmm, Sony dissapoints me, hopefully the line up will make it worthwhile, if anything, KH III / MGS (x) will make me buy whatever console it comes out on, games have such power.

People are forgetting that Sony is also shoving a Blu-Ray DVD player in there.

Currently, HD-DVD players are running you about $800-$1000.

Betting a lot of you didn't even own any kind of DVD player until you bought a PS2 of your own.

Still seems high, but we're living in an age where companies like Sony and Microsoft alike don't just want to sell us games, they want to sell us premium subscription packages and pay-to-play downloadable content. Not seeing how much you pay for Live content in those XBox numbers.

rofl, you make a good point, but I see it being a while till blu-ray is widely used (much how like DVDs back in the day). Still, I will probably get a PS3, maybe when it's £500 for the 60gb package, although blu-ray technology opens up so many possibilities when it comes to memory and game capacity, 10000 man battles on screen at the same time with no lag? I'd hit it.

I honestly don't give a shit if it's called Wii or PieceOfShit as long as the games and whatnot are good.

"ii" pronounced "ee" in english means good in japanese.

As far as the bluray thing goes... That wont be the standard for a long while. All the mumsies and dadsies going to buy their kids a christmas present are gonna see a ps3 for 600 dollars, a Wii for 200-250 and a 360 for whatever it's gonna be at the time. I honestly dont think Sony stands a chance with their high price point. People honestly dont care for like uber high quality viewing experiences when it means another 500-600 dollars out of their pockets. I can watch a DVD just fine and I don't really get envious of the people who watch it in HD.

Bottom line is keep things cheap and worth somone's money, and they'll keep coming back for it. I think Nintendo might have a chance at coming out on top this time, if not in a close second.

Sony is also not ignorant to the fact that its audience is no longer children waiting to get a christmas present. If you started playing videogames in the Atari age you are now 30 and still keenly interested in high-tech gadges. A blu-ray DVD player qualifies as a gadget. Whether or not you can afford $600 is a separate matter, but if you were the kind of person who bought a Game Boy, then a Game Boy Pocket, then a Game Boy Color, then a Game Boy Advance, then a Game Boy Advance SP, then a Game Boy DS, then you probably make enough money to buy a PS3 and a Wii anyway.

eh i guess you're right. 500 system is definitaly not worth it (much like xbox's lower priced system) but 600 for a system is... ow to any casual gamers pocket
