are you serious? does this statement apply to a year ago, or am i doing something horribly wrong? i'm currently 28 bonecraft, and so far it's been pure loss. i haven't touched a guide and have been comparing recipes/prices on my own, but everything i make still hurts my wallet.

    my path so far:

shell earring > shell ring > bone arrowheads > bone ring > carapace powder > beetle ring > beetle mittens (current stage)

bonechips: 5-7k on AH (i rarely buy, have some stocked up from camping guild store)
    beetle jaws: 35-40k
    beetle shells: 500-1k
sheep leather: 30k (17k to craft)

i like beetle mittens, because i'm skilling up Leather and Bone at the same time, but it's still a loss. every recipe i chose was the best imo, but they were all losses...

i don't think bonecraft is all profit to 88 anymore, but if i'm missing something blantantly obvious please tell me! no matter what, i'm going to stick with it because i already see some profitable synths for when i'm a little bit higher. (HQ beetle gear is like 80k/piece 8) )

from 0-100+1 0-60+1 leather 0-60 alch it costed me about 25-26m. this includes gobbie bags and airship pass. npcing or dropping everything i made to skillup and spending more money then was necessary to PL it and for ease. Midgard btw

I was making 10k profit per synth on Bone Patas, bazaared full inventory overnight outside goldsmithing guild and would sell out overnight. I made something like 1mil off that stage and continued to make them when the materials were on AH simply because it is such easy profit.

Yeah I can't leave my comp on overnight.

I got bone to 65 then stopped. Working on GP every once in a while. I don't get how people get so many GP so fast, it's taking me forever.

GP does take forever, but it doesn't seem so bad if you cut your trips in half. At JP midnight the guild switches to the next GP item, around 10am EST I believe. So show up around 9am EST, do the guild item for the day, wait around till 10:10am EST, and turn in the guild item for the next day. Wait two days, rinse repeat.

As for bonecrafting, I probably spent about 15m total to get to 100, and about 10m of that was from 88-100. Edit: Oh also I mostly PLd through it, lots of things I just NPCed. If you're patient, and are willing to AH and desynth, then you could probably save much more.

Bone patas are a win no matter how you slice it. You can recover a large chunk of your investment during that stage if you play your cards right.

Although it was a long time ago and I don't know if it is still viable, I remember selling all of the arrowheads I made in Sandy to make some money off them. Woodworkers buy them to turn into arrows and if there aren't a ton of other people on the same stage of crafting as you that are flooding the market you can make your money back and possibly more.

That's where you are wrong kind of, If someone were to ask this in KI forums, Or alla forums, They'd be getting info and a price for how to get to like 55-60 Bonecraft. . . I don't know many 100 crafts besides cooking who actually patrol those forums often. But this forum is different, obviously... Can't you see how many responsed he got? Looks like a few pages to me.

He obtained about 2 useful responses in 5 pages, and zero responsed. You can take most crafts to 100 with 10-20mil gil and npc everything (except gold and smithing). You can also take your time, learn the craft and make a profit taking your craft to 100.

I strongly suggest that you DO NOT power level to 100 if it is your first craft, or you have not made considerable amounts of gil with another craft. If your upgrading bone for money, all I can say is lol and I hope you know what average net profit is.

Unless you're on Fairy and people have crashed the market to 10k each when cost is like 12k per synth.

They were selling fine and quick at 20k each (sold first batch of 36 in like 1.5 days) but some people are too impatient and dropped it straight to 10k, no gradual decline, just a straight drop. I've got about 106 sitting on a mule waiting (hoping) the market will rebound, but no luck in the past 4 weeks.

    Best advice in this thread.

It really is. These crafts can make it to 60 (or at least 50) for damn near free, probably 200k maxmaxmax... If you're one of those people that spend 2m to get there then at least you know now that crafting isn't for you.

I've gotten numerous tells from people saying they spent like 500k to get cloth to 20 and want to know how to make money with the 500k they invested to level higher.....at level 20

well I do appreciate all the advice.

Leveling bonecraft even to 65 (where it's at now) is a huge experience. You learn a lot, and I've learned a lot on how to save money and make better decisions crafting.

    But.

Crafting is still boring as hell and time consuming. I have a lot of other stuff to take care of in-game.

I used to craft just to have something to do while I was lfg. When my craft hit 100 I was kind of sad for a few weeks because I didn't have any huge goals to work towards. If you really enjoy it, it's a labor of love and there were a few times I got an invite that I almost wished I could have kept crafting because I did enjoy it. I'm even considering leveling something on a mule just to be able to level another craft because I kind of miss it.

Either it's your thing or it isn't. Leveling something cheap for starters is definately the best way to find out as stated above.
