Thank God Wavedashing is gone. Gayest shit in the world that makes fights one sided.

very happy on no wavedashing
Haha, this is the only forum I go to where people are happy about the removal of wavedashing (for the most part).
I never liked it (mostly because I never quite got the feel for it), I'm glad it's out too.
Yeah. I don't care one way or another about wavedashing as I could do it, but I did feel it took some of the fun out of the game when that's all 95% of a match consisted of was wavedashing/dodging and not enough item throwing, boom boom going mayham. :/Originally Posted by Sho
Another note. As far as Sonic music goes, Live and Learn and Open Your Heart... in what part of the game are they used? Cutscenes only or during the Sonic stage as well?
I don't care about Wavedash, though I could do it I never felt like it was something I should hold onto, and it wasn't as fun as just running around normally smacking the crap outta people.
I wouldn't say I am glad the wavedash is gone. I think alot of that is just people glad the advantage one gains from wavedashing, is gone. I understand that technical things like wavedashing would probably be a bit odd in online play considering ping. If you weren't the host you'd probably have trouble wavedashing simply because of lag, and as a result the host would carry an advantage. Also, wavedashing allowed characters that weren't competitive before to become competitive.

I wouldn't have gotten to see this at MLG Chicago if wavedashing didn't exist. I think it was something that really brought alot of popularity to Smash and kept it going even after it's rise in popularity faded. So that being said, I'll say, "It's sad to see it go, but I understand why it's gone."
MLG Chicago was cool because FB lost and Ken and Isaiah lost too, it was like the fall of the greats, haha.
That video was 90% whiffed hitboxes because people aren't used to anything that isnt FD and otherwise just abusing invincibility frames, which is cool and all but uh... wot. I guess your point was that it made IC a competitive character against marth who should have outclassed it but even so the lateral accuracy wasn't all that amazing on marth's part.
Uhm, not at all. Corneria was actually used alot in MLG and the top two that event were most certainly "used to it." It's such a common(wrong) preconception to think all people who play Tournaments do is play FD. FD is good and well but there are other stages which are much more fun. Like the OG DK stage was fun. Rainbow Cruise is fun if your opponent didn't eliminate it. My personal favorite was the Pokemon Stadium though.Originally Posted by Ryko
Abusing invincibility frames? What are you talking about? The wavedash isn't an abuse of invincibility frames, in fact the invincibility frame is cut so short it's nearly irrelevant. If you're referring to the "invincibility" frame you get from climbing back on a ledge then, sorry to disappoint but that's in SSBB too.
I think you're just trying to be contrary for the sake of being contrary![]()
Does it exist? Yes, is it remotely as fast and abusable as it used to be? Not in the slightest. I've used it on ike since the vertical on aether is incredible but honestly it took precedent over everything in competitive play. It boiled it down to muscle memory on a handful of stages. If you're referring to the "invincibility" frame you get from climbing back on a ledge then, sorry to disappoint but that's in SSBB too.
Huh, I thought IC were tournament banned due to infinite throws.
Meh, what do I know!
Fox is still awesome, *squeaks*
eee.![]()
Also, I guess I'm the only one in the thread who's sad/emo that wavedashing is gone. *Cardboard Box Escape!*
Don't think their infinite grab is banned can't find that information anywhere. It's really hard to do anyway and nobody can really do it infinitely. If that were the case they'd ban Fox for having a potentially infinite waveshine.Originally Posted by A-Chaos
Some people are determined enough to make what one would consider a non-competitive character into a competitive one. With or without wavedashing. I'm sure people will find ways, though at this point I honestly don't see people going back to Melee...
It was never my intention to suggest that wavedashing is the only way SSBM was balanced. While it did help, it most certainly isn't going to make or break SSBB because the developers planned around it not being there. I just thought all the people saying "zomg, so glad wavedashing is gone" were band wagoning. The wavedash was about as "unfair" as shield grabbing is; shield grabbing is still in the game. They are both just ways to improve your gameplay, saying you're glad one is gone without a real reason is like them removing shields from the game and saying, "I'm glad shields are gone, it just led to longer matches and gave people with larger shields an advantage."
Bandwagoning, of course, lol
The only problem I see with this is that, if I'm not mistaken, wavedashing wasn't intentionally built into the game, as shields were. It could be, that when the creators saw the way people used an unintended method of moving like that, it tipped the balances they'd originally planned, whether they were unfair or fair, and they took it out to guarantee character speeds and so they could have a more definite outlook of a characters future.Originally Posted by Maguspk
Shields are, well shields, and the characters with the bigger ones, tended to be the slower ones anyways. I don't think shields have ever really been unbalanced, so it'd just be inconceivable to me to say that people with larger shields have an advantage .
i wouldnt complain if shields were removed either, but those are a mechanic not a glitch
haha, the size of a shield doesn't matter actually they all go down at the same rate. I was just trying to think of something to equate wavedashing to. It wasn't a glitch it was programmed into the game that way as a condition when a character air dodges into a piece of the level. I realize how futile this argument is here, since the majority of people obviously didn't care for the wavedash are glad it isn't a factor of gameplay anymore. Sorry.Originally Posted by Nightsx
Unintentional mechanics have long been a staple of many fighting games.
In GGX, Faultless Defense cancels were unintentional but became mainstays. In GGXX, Sol's dust loop wasn't intentional but it became necessary to know how to do it if you wanted to play him on a high level. Similar with Faust's air FDC.
Street Fighter 3 has kara throws. CvS2 has roll cancels. Don't even get me started on all the crap that is abused in MvC2.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before something similar is found for Brawl.
I don't understand why everyone was so against wavedashing. Do most of you play the game at the tournament level? Probably not, so you don't need to wavedash to have fun with the game with your friends. Just cuz it's there doesn't mean you have to learn how to do it or use it if you don't plan on playing the game seriously.
sorry if already posted... but quite possibly the sickest vid i've seen so far http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1sAlsVTK89g just shows how much deeper this game is gonna be
Ok that was awesome.
