    better than babelfish etc. pp.

I ve always asked myself what strained vegetables are, maybe its just a bad translation error by se and it means really eye/iris = ahriman lens or something.
Straining is a rl cooking term. Probably someone with knowledge of making soup could explain could explain it.

EDIT: Actually I use a strainer when I make noodles to strain the noodle from the water which it was boiled from to my bowl so strain vegetable could either mean using the JUICE of the vegetable or the boiled verison of the vegetable.

    Dictionary.com ftw.

Strain, verb, as in to strain:
    1. To pass (gravy, for example) through a filtering agent such as a strainer.
    2. To draw off or remove by filtration: strained the pulp from the juice.

Is there an item in the game that can act as a kind of filter that could possibly be used in the recipe?

As for the eye/iris thing, hecteyes eye maybe?

One more thing, babelfish translate "野菜の絞り汁を配合したゴブリンの飲み物" to "The beverage of ゴブリン which combines the contraction juice of the vegetable." From the sound of that, it seems we should be using the juice instead of the vegetable but there isn't that many, if any, juice of vegetables.

Sounds crazy, but the following vegetables are commonly turned into juice.

    Tomato
    Carrot
    Celery
    Spinach
    Ginger
    Broccoli

I don't know that any of the juices are strained as opposed to liquified.

As far as straining, or filtering, goes, here's a common item that could be a possible answer. Check out the description:

    Pea Soup
    Vegetable Broth
    Vegetable Soup
    Tomato Soup
    Pumpkin Soup
    Tomato Juice
    Vampire Juice

Some of the items I could think of off the top of my head.

Tofu is made by straining soy milk with acid thrown into it (lemon juice is my favorite) IRL. In-game we can make cotton-tofu by including a Cotton Cloth in the cooking process. Might be worth mimicing that recepie to see if it goes anywhere.

I still think there's a decent chance that it might include attowah gensing (rare/ex drop from flies in attowah chasim).

The Goblin Mask idea I put forward sounds similar to that tofu thingy.

Attohwa Ginseng, isn't use I dont think.
    http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/6309

Used in a quest, and is rare/ex. The Hakutaku eyes arent rare/ex. Air Tanks arent EX (Rutter Sabaton NM), The items to make O.Knifes to pop Ug.Pendant NM isn't EX. Clustered Tar isnt EX, used to pop Soboro Sukehiro. The Shen pop item isn't EX, etc~

All of this makes me believe that part of the recipe, drops from a mob, and is Rare, not EX. All of the CoP pop NMs seem to follow this trend.

I know this isn't anything new.

First off, its nice to meet you all, I play on the Gilgamesh server, and I drop by your website from time to time, to enjoy different people's views on in-game topics.

I've been following this topic on the gorget for some time now, and haven't felt like I should chime in with any info... but when has anyone approached the idea of using this item in the synthesis?

    http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/images/...blinHotrok.jpg

I haven't been able to obtain one, but I have tried to use my cooking skill level (88.5) to find a possible recipe for this synth. Any information I find, or come across in-game to help with this topic, I will be sure to report to here.

Once again, nice to meet you all ^^

Other rare/ex, rare, and ex materials are used in synths. That's what I pointed out earlier and people thought I was talking about a 'rare' result. I think that giving the Attowah gensing a try wouldn't hurt (unless you can't kill the flies). My cooking mule is only at 69 cooking atm, so I'm only able to contribute ideas.

You can still try different combinations out, if you hit the jackpot it'll just say that your skill isn't high enough for that specific synth, rather than saying that those items can't be synthesized.

    Yes, I understand this ^^

But I meant to say, that it could be possibly used somehow, maybe crafted into something else, or desynthed ( recalling the posts about other rare/ex items, that can be used in a synth recipe ie. Wyvern Skull )

    Its worth a try, I guess :D

And yes, I knew it was used in that quest... maybe its the thrill of possibly finding out how to pop this monster, that drives me to pursue this still... lol...

Just because it's used in a question doesn't neccesarily rule it out for a synthesis materials.

The royal jelly which drops off of the bees inside of Crawler's nest is used in 1 or 2 quests but is also used in a cooking recipe.

Doesn't mean the hotrok is used in it by any means but I wouldn't rule it out either.

I ve always asked myself what strained vegetables are, maybe its just a bad translation error by se and it means really eye/iris = ahriman lens or something.
There's an error in the translation here. 絞り 【しぼり】 Has nothing to do with an iris or camera, it's actually together with the next word, 汁 【しる; つゆ】, forming 絞り汁, a noun referring to what you get when you squeeze or wring something, like a towel or a vegetable.

The Japanese item description is more or less a literal translation of the English one.

And 'jap' is not a great abbreviation, btw. I think JP works just fine....

I ve found "strain" in a jap. dic. too but anyways thx for enlighten me; was just an idea with Breens. I hope, that good old Nippon will find a way to set spaces behind their next words in the future, would make translations more easier.

aka i know what (to) strain means , my prob is the jap. writing.
I havnt any prepositions or something. Japanese is very cryptic in my opinion.
I know there are rules for understanding the word order (its not hardcore old roman pre 300 a.D. without any wordorders), but as someone mentioned before.

Does the sentance mean? : A mixture of juices, which are made by vegetable straining ---> like tossing orange juice, apple juice etc. alltogether....

    or a juice/drink/liquid with a mixture of (a) strained vegetable(s) ---> like dried majoran e.g. ....

or a juice made by straining a mixture of vegetables. --> fresh vegetables used

The english item description would more referr to the 2nd version and so i asked myself what strained vegetables are ---> dried maioran or tea leaves e.g. and if the translation is correct, i came in mind with this->

We have a set of dried, strained whatever plants to brew teas, thats why i meantioned the gob-rot tea in my former post and that the above recipe indeed could be more or less a correct. We only need all items for this rot-tea to brew and the craft would be cooking with a fire crystal (normally).
