If you don't see that the NBA wants higher ratings and uses LBJ to get them then you need to pay closer attention. Also, I'm not against LeBron but I am again sucky refs and BS calls. The Cavs beat the Wizards on BS calls, they were given many chances to win the game but couldn't put it away so they let him travel on the game winner, it was very obvious.

except those games where one player scores >75% of the team's points. Unless you count 1 player to play offense, and 4 defense as your team.Originally Posted by edgarfigaro
Lol, don't flame, I don't like basketball... hockey 4tw.
Those are just examples of players that can affect another sport. And really, any sport where you lose a superstar your team will fail...it's just more pronounced in basketball because you only have 5 players out on the court, as opposed to 9 or 22, and it's not like hockey with constant subs, the best teams usually only have a 8 man rotation.

yeah once you get to a certain level you apparently gain the respect of the refs and their way of showing it is letting a lot of shit slide. there have been many times this series where i laugh as wade and dirk travel their friggin balls off and dont get called (lebron does too).
i think dwayne wade is more fun to watch than LJ.
Game 7 on now
And ive been watching d. wade since he was at marquette. I think he is overrated. But i hate him with a passion as a Louisville alumni.
haha there is always someone out there who will find any NBA player overrated. however, there are two universal truths:
1: chris webber is the most overrated player in the history of the game.
2: luc walton is the next jordan.
lol2: luc walton is the next jordan.

Ah, so true. He and Grant Hill and Vince Carter should have some sort of contest.Originally Posted by Andarvi
Some aimless thoughts. I think we're watching one of the best playoffs in history. The league is finally really deep in talent again and there is no sure thing - a welcome change after decades of teams repeating and completely dominating. There is no Jordan/Bulls now, but neither is the league relatively weak as it was just after Jordan left. I find it really exciting, and I am superjaded about basketball (they pretty much never got me completely back after the '99 strike).
The previous record for games decided by 1 point in an entire postseason was 9. Through TWO ROUNDS of this postseason there was already 8, last I checked. You already had Kobe (even if I hate him, he is finally forcing me to respect him) and his heroism vs. the Suns, and the Sun's dramatic response. You had Arenas' absolutely ridiculous 29 foot shot that he made look like the most casual 14 footer in the world. You already had three out of four semi-final matches go 7 games, which is ridiculous. Hating on Lebron already is a little silly I think, the kid is gonna be amazing, and it's horrifying that he's like what, TWENTY? Jordan took six, seven years to even begin trucking, so did Shaq, the only modern era dominant player who won early was Duncan, and that was because there was ALREADY a marquee player on his team to make it all work (Robinson), he was just the icing on the cake.
Officiating. Well, it's been sort of a joke this postseason, and it makes me sad that what should be a spectacular series in Mavs/Spurs feels so 'tinkered' with (yes Terry deserved the suspension and it was clear-cut, but coming after 3 games already decided by the refs, that was just TOO MUCH TAMPERING - they had to do it but the earlier games made it just too much, to me). At least both teams have been helped and both teams have gotten totally dicked. Every game except game 2 = flip a coin. Or flip a whistle, sadly. Hopefully come Monday night they can just play. Now is not the time for delay of game Ts or fucking touch fouls with 8 seconds left. Stupid fucking Steve Javie, I can't believe he still has a job, we've been watching him hose games for two freaking decades almost.
Then again, officiating is ALWAYS an issue, someone always gets dicked (Kings/Lakers game 7 anyone? Pacers/Knicks game 7? etc.), the main difference is that this is the closest postseason across the board I can remember. The Spurs/Mavs series would be neck and neck WITHOUT the questionable calls. That just makes them stand out so much when they happen.
Lebron gets calls in his favor, he's a marketable player. Look at Nowitski, he gets the benefit of the doubt too - 1 foul in game 6? Yeah, Jordan was favored too, and the last 'real' shot he ever took over Byron Russell, he totally pushed Byron away, no call (to be fair, refs probably didn't see it, rather than just not calling it) - but that doesn't make him not the greatest player of all time. Name a sporting accomplishment that trumps him single-handedly beating the Jazz with stomach flu and being carried off the court by Pippen, that's still the most incredible sports feat I've seen. Calls in his favor, yeah, he was the most marketable player in the history of sports. Did he need them? Not really.
It's not like the Lebrons and Jordans and Kobes would suddenly suck if calls stopped going their way. It's going to happen. It's just frustrating to me when it decides games. What's perplexing about this postseason is it isn't superstars instigating the game-deciding calls, it just looks like random coinflips. Ah well, still a great postseason so far. Monday night should be something else. Terry is blowing up this year, Manu grew his balls back, Duncan is old faithful, Dirk is unstoppable, the only key player on either team inconsistent in this series is Parker, but he's always inconsistent in the playoffs. Also Finley headbutt dunk was the rawest thing ever. Maybe I'm too big of a weirdo but in my head I heard him say "BULBA!!" when he did it.
And I don't see anyone beating Detroit if they actually pay attention. They played off their game versus the Cavs, but on the whole they are BETTER this year than last year, when they entered the fourth quarter of game 7 against the Spurs TIED. It doesn't get a whole lot closer than that.
This is long so I'll stop. D:
all so true. a couple things you make me think of.
the difference between carter/hill and webber is that the former have been plagued by injuries, hill being the worst. i think of grant hill as a lesser griffey in a sense when he was young and healthy he was amazing then he gets hurt and there goes all the talk about him doing anything with his career. up until this year carter has been way overrated, now he is finally getting his game back, but hes still the third best on his team. webber is just a plain old fucking chump who is the antithesis of clutch.
back to lebron, the inevitable happened, pistons won tonight after playing the way they should have been playing the whole time. if this is any indication of what is to come just give them the ring now. defense wins championships.
So how about those oilers?
Lebron has awesome basketball skills, but I really think that his birth certificate is fake and he's older than what he says.
BTW GoGoGo Miami Heat!!!
You hit the nail on the head Luminaire.
