No they won't. I called every day for a week and a half after I got hacked. They all told me the same thing.
Worked for two of my friends. *shrug*

How exactly do keyloggers work? I don't type in my password, only the POL Viewer Member thing account password, am I in danger?

depends on the keylogger, of course. the simplest ones just compile every character you type on the keyboard and then send the result to a script kiddie who parses it by hand.

better ones can detect when you are typing in "obscured" fields like password boxes.

obviously if you "save" your password, then a keylogger won't be able to pick it up, since you never type it.

but there are other programs that will simply intercept the "password" packet, or read it out of the storage on your computer, so saving it isn't foolproof...

I don't save my password, so it's understandable how they got my password, but what I still don't get is how they get the POL ID. Had to have been one of those more advanced ones, eh? I still wanna know how they work.

Well that's cool I guess. I'm going to guess there are very few programs that harm POL in the other manner? So I'm like safe, most of the time?

This was posted on KI-Cerberus forum couple of days ago. Basically, there are keyloggers for FFXI that makes you re-enter your POL ID/PASS when you try to log in after getting infected. They also talk about one where they would take a snapshot of your POL log in screen for the POL ID. What would they think of next!!

The simple answer has been posted in this thread a few times, but I'll reiterate it:

Don't use untrusted programs. Personally, I won't use anything outside of Archbell's windowers and their own plug-ins, an old version of the FFXI parser, and my own parser that I'm putting together that will keep track of when you have status effects on that might affect parse results.

Edit: I'm also an advocate for open source software, so if I do plan on downloading something else, I'd rather get the source myself and compile it after examing the code so I know I can trust it.

Amen. I don't know how many times I have laughed at some poor FPS-playing schmuck for getting a virus on his computer, usually from downloading kiddie hacks from myg0t.

Friend: "Yeah, I have this virus on my computer..."
    Me: "What is it?"
    Friend: "Ever heard of sp0rk3h?"

I follow the same principle (even though I'd never hack in CS or any FPS).

    In the strictist sense:

Follow the TOS. No 3rd party programs. Don't give out your login/pass.

In theory, IGE (or maybe some malicious person) could buy out archbell, release a new windower that logs your info, and steal thousands of accounts.

    Nothing is safe.

    Wow.

I commend you for your level of paranoia; you have surpassed me.

(But remember, you are only paranoid if no one is out to get you.)
