I know DK and Asuran both have mods of 50% STR OR 50% VIT, not both. The modifier is taken from whichever stat is highest, which I'm hoping would be STR in all circumstances.

Asura Mod has been adjusted from what was originally thought. It's just 10%.

Or you could NIN or /NIN and just avoid Physical damage entirely, leaving you to only worry about magic attacks.

In most practical situations this applies to Jorm and Tiamat. Blink out the hits on the ground, then let a Shadow Ring eat them up once it goes airborne.

How often do people avoid phys dmg entirely on any HNM? And don't act like you or your ninja's are so pro that tiamat (one of the easiest HNM to tank) never gets a hit in.. When he becomes elegy resistant and spams double attack, haivng the cape proc could save your tank.. Shadow mantle on a ninja while wyrms arent in flight would be great...

Shadow Mantle on Wyrms is pretty worthless. In the rare event that your PLD/NIN does lose all their shadows, you use this magical ability known as "Stun".

I was actually speaking about Ninja's, but I would wear both Defending Ring and Shadow Mantle for both job's. Wow, So you guys have never had a tank die while Tiamat is not in flight? That's impressive..

I've seen tanks with Defending Rings and tanks with Shadow mantles get killed by Tiamat, and I've seen tanks with those items lose hate because they were too concerned with stacking up their damage reduction/VIT/w/e then actually worrying about enmity and keeping the mob on them.

I could give a fuck less if a NIN wants to use a Shadow mantle while tanking, I just wouldn't do it personally unless I found myself backed up on timers. Even then assuming you're not tanking with gimps next to you one or two hits on you and the mob is gonna pop right on over to any other tanks there.

i agree with tyche - keep the nice stuff rare so this game doesn't turn into wow - there is a reason people max wow in 3 months and return to ffxi - they like to torture themselves - i myself like the insane treadmill & lack of drops - when you earn something in ffxi its an acomplishment
