    Wrym KS99 Questions

I've yet to do this one yet, and planning on it soon. I was wondering some things about it. I know that he flys in it, is his attacks fire based in the air? Also can you take it out of the sky anyway? Also is their any suggestions on meds or strategy to take in doing this KS? or should we just act like its Tiamat ?

Yeah his attacks in the air are fire based, and he's definitely the most dangerous while in the air. It seems that you're required to do a certain amount of damage to him in the air before he will come back down, so you need to be sure to have BLM/RNG/MNK (Chi Blast) to do heavy damage quickly to bring him down and at least 2, preferably 3 RDM/DRK chainspell stunning. Once he's down, you should have no trouble finishing him off.

Every time I've done this (about 8-10 times) he has gone to the air after taking about 25% of his HP down. He stays in the air until he only has roughly 25% left. It's pretty easy, especially if you chainstun while it's in the air.

Off topic question, is maat's cap- beat maat with 7 jobs, or all 14 original ones?

Don't bring MNK to this just for chi blast, big waste of a party spot. This is what I recommend as a base strategy:

Have a smn and/or brd in each party, with preferably both in tank party. Have them alternate earthen ward and diabolos magic def/atk buff.

BLMs and RNGs are the best in this. BLMs should use tier 1-3 to not pull hate but to do steady damage until the 70-ish % mark, in which it will start to fly. At the 70% mark, all BLMs do a timed thunder 4 and it will fly. As soon as it starts to fly, set up a chainspell stun order, at least 2 RDM, one after the other. Have blm toss stuns in between. During the fly stage, soulvoice ballad + fire carol and keep barfira up by people with actual enhancing skill (ie not brds). BLM, and whatever DDs you bring, hit it hard. No -gas, they are a waste of mp at this point in the battle, but use manafont if you deem it necessary.

It is important that mages who are not chainspelling keep the blms and chainspelling rdms alive, but each mage is in charge of his own stoneskin at this point.

Once you do enough damage, I think the 30% mark but again I just can't quite recall, it will land. At this point, any BLMs still alive rest. Other DD do steady damage but take it easy. Let PLDs regain hate, even if it means invincible.

Once it is at the 10-15% mark, using blm strategy, do a timed ES thundaga 3. Finish it off if it isn't dead by then.

This is how I've done it:

PLD PLD SMN BRD RDM Whatever
RDM BRD BLM BLM BLM SMN
BRD BLM BLM RNG RNG SMN

It's pretty blm zergish, but it gets the job done. I've also done it with only 4 blms, and an assortment of other DD, and it was still workable. You just can't have people who suck at their job.

Regular DDs should bring an icarus wing, but it isn't necessary, especially if you expect to do more than one run. Everyone should bring a RR pin/gorget. RR only after a TP move. Don't even bother in the flying stage.

Oh yeah, and one more thing. In case it isn't painfully obvious, do not use fire or ice spells. It is a fire based monster.

We've never really had a problem with this with two conditions:

    RDM/DRK has chainspell up.
There's a WHM in the BLM party so they don't have to worry about healing themselves during flight.

Otherwise yeah, you have a set % of HP that it'll take off at, and a set amount it'll land at. BLM hold back and aim for having near full MP when it flies, Chainspell Stun (we've only ever had 1 RDM do this per run), and BLM unload. Provided you have at least 5-6 BLM, you should be able to get it to land before Chainspell wears.

On the ground it's not usually too bad. Overall this has been a reliable and pretty easy KS99 for us to do >_>

behemoth99 still seems more worth it for drops I think, unless you are going for BB items which we were. Behe is also much much less effort and no 2hrs. :D

when he's on the ground before taking flight, he hits pretty weak...i remember getting like 100 damage/hit without blocking, but when he lands after flying he seems to be stronger, i dunno if his wing is stronger but it also seems like he uses it alot more (like 8 wings in a row wiped us once).

another thing to note, he will Draw In the entire alliance when someone is out of range and he uses it, this screws up positioning sometimes

The absolute best melee job combination for this BC are SAM/RNGs, the potential for 5-7 sidewinders in the air (depending on gear and food setup these sidewinders will do 700-1200 each) absolutely melts the mob in the air. We usually take 2-4 in depending on who signs up. Your mileage may vary but that's what worked for us as well as the typical BLM nukefest/CS stun routine.

He DEFINATELY hits harder later on, and possibly is more resistant to melee and nukes. He was a complete joke for the first 25%, and after he landed, it was utter hell, melee hardly being able to take him down, and he hit like a truck in comparison.

Only ever tried him that once, went 1/1 and decided it wasn't worth coming back to. Though I'd like to give him another try, I think we could wreck him.

Hmm we usually do it with a bunch of blms, instead of CS stun we take a regular tank pt of pld pld whm whm brd rdm, when it goes into the air, brd soulvoice ballad while blm stand as far back as they can so they dont get owned by the aoe and just nuke, this way you can do as many bcs as you have brd, we've only lost like once out of ten tries doing this, doesn't seem too bad.

S you guys think this is mainly a job for pld/war to tank since hate will be difficult to keep from the mages? Nin/drk is amazing for hate, and nin has access to alot of fire resist gear. Could start fight by meleeing with souleater, woud give a crap load of hate. Or is it just better to go with a pld/war?

And sam/rng works well eh? Might just have to bring that out of retirement...

Oh, and all these blm heavy strats, how much time are we talking about for total fight time?

Edit: SMN are a decent DD as well for this? Seems viable since its hateless dmg and smn can attack on the ground as well as air.

Last 6 KS99 runs I've helped with were 4 behemoth and 2 wyrm... the behe ones dropped that stupid whm club mainly, most people made only 10-20m... the 2 wyrm fights were both unsho and noki shuriken each and one of them even got shinsoku too.

    Only 10-20mil?

I think most of our behemoth runs, 1/3rd or so come out with a behemoth hide or another approximately valuable item, and the rest just got jacked 99 seals.

I guess you guys are just far luckier than we are...

Last behemoth set we did, my 2 most valuable items were a Behemoth Horn and a Vile Elixer.

Our economy isn't that bad these days, it's gotten alot better lately.

Last Behemoth Run I did I thought I was totally fucked cause I got Bayard's Sword out of it, ended up selling it overnight on the AH for 9 million gil, good enough along with the other items for Arhat's Head and Body+1 and an Eris+1 for my NIN. <.>

Have people who've done these recently noticed an increase in Black Belt items? Previous I had done I don't know how many runs and not seen tongue drop. About a month ago did 6 runs and out of those 6 had 2 tongues drop (both of which were needed @_@ ). Were we just insanely lucky?

Doubt it was changed. We've had tongues drop so much in the past, and had 2 beards from 5 or 6 wyrm99 total, but NEVER an egg out of like 10 runs.
