    Marid Parties

Anybody know about these? I"m 68 WAR, trying to take a group to do Marids. What jobs should I look for in my party? What level range is best? Is 68 high enuff?

They're not worth fighting. I exp'd on them for a tad, and they were totally not worth it at all. They have undispellable defence boost moves, and chigoes nonstop, the exp was as good as watching paint dry.

Aren't the chigoes supposed to be the majority of the exp?

Not all Chigoes will grant exp. If you kill too fast I think they don't give any, I'm not sure exactly how it works.

Yes, chigoes are majority of the xp. Marids are amazing at lv67-68. My LS PT did 10k an hour and that was with a pick up RDM that never enfeebled or refreshed.

Marids took about 10-15min. to kill, but you can chain the chigoes that spawn. We chained the hell out of chigoes and killed Marid for chain#20. Anywhere between 2-3k xp in 10 min? It's very well worth it.

We had a PLD tank, NIN, RNG, COR, WHM, and RDM as our setup. NIN, RNG, and COR saved their WS for chigoes, which can be one shotted by a single WS. I don't think you can xp on Marids at 67-68 unless you have a PLD tank, but that's just my observation.

All in all, every one of your PT members must know what they are doing to do Marids. If you can get the right people, Marids give the best xp at that level.

WSing or Crit'ing a chigoe will cause it to fall to the ground, resulting in 0 xp.

BLU is the answer to this.

I was in a Marid party, and to avoid critting or WSing the chigoe, I did not even engage. Whenever a Chigoe popped, I immediatley Hysteric Barraged/Frenetic Ripped it.. it generally got one-shotted and gained us exp every time. If it iddn't die, a bludgeon finishes it.

Everyone else just does their job like they normally would somewhere else. It's that simple.

Between Chigoes i'd sometimes pop a sata spinal cleave on the marid's ass for 300-500 dmg.

Even with 71s in the party, the exp was about 6k-8k an hour, depending on chigoe spawn rate and how many BLMs/BSTs were killing our marids =/

Setup was: NIN MNK BRD RDM BLM BLU

strange, but it worked. As long as you're quick on the chigoe pops, a NIN will do ok. PLD if you're paranoid though. Keeping the BLU refreshed at all times is a must, though, because hysteric barrage and frenetic rip take 61 mp each use. The BLU is recommended to set spells that provide auto-refresh trait and also use the refresh bonus on sanction.

the reason why BLU Spells are best, is because our physical skills do not count as WS when casted normally, but they are instant cast. Therefore, the mob dies from the spell, rather than falls to the ground. Unlike BLM, we don't have to spend about 10 seconds casting on it either

wow i didnt know people were actually exp'ing off the chigoes, i thought the marids.

Once when I was new to ToaU, someone invited me to a Marid pt on my rdm, it was slow and horrible, 6 75's vs a marid that gave 70+ exp per kill. I only stayed to get marid hairs, but I didnt even get any -_-

I know crit'ing doesn't net xp, but are you sure about ws'ing? My PT members were killing chigoes with Slug Shots and Blade: Jins and they were giving xp's perfectly fine. There were few occassions that they didn't give any xp, but we assumed it's because Jin crit'ed.

if the WS doesn't outright kill the chigoe it will fall to the ground

One thing to consider: (and no I havent done a Marid party) subtle blow is BAD. Hell, a NIN tank is just a bad idea on these guys, reduces mob TP gain by so much. You want those marids spamming WSes (unless your party sucks and can't handle it.) More WS = More chigoe = more exp. So... the best DD for this would seem to be... THF/WAR! Since low delay weapons give the mob more TP (thus why it was added to MNK and NIN) and the 2 'low delay godly DDs' have subtle blow... Well yeah. Plus it increases marid hair droprates. Maybe the optimal party would be PLD/WAR THF/WAR THF/WAR BLU/THF WHM/SMN BRD/WHM. Possibly a meleeing joytoy RDM/WAR (no Subtle Blow from /NIN plz thx) instead of a THF if it hits too hard and you need extra cure/refresh power.

How much HP does each Chigoe have? If a Slug hits for a reasonably consistent 500 damage on say, Erucas in Mt Z, is it likely enough to kill the chigoes?

Have been since the release. Pld Blu Blu Cor Rdm Brd are the new "best setup" pre-70 tp burns. And makes for one extremely easy party for the bard. Ballad for all, plus evokers roll and refresh = never ending chains. I seriously had trouble keeping my MP at less then max, and with a pld tank I can spam to my hearts content.
