Have been since the release. Pld Blu Blu Cor Rdm Brd are the new "best setup" pre-70 tp burns. And makes for one extremely easy party for the bard. Ballad for all, plus evokers roll and refresh = never ending chains. I seriously had trouble keeping my MP at less then max, and with a pld tank I can spam to my hearts content.
Or nin blu blu cor rdm brd, with the exact same rolls and songs, and still spam to your hearts content?

Shadows arent the only reason people pick nins, a tank that can DD is going to speed the party up.

That said, I am much, much more inclined to pick a paladin than I was previously.

My Hysteric Barrages were not even breaking 500 and still one-shotting the Chigoes. I'd say they have in the lower 400s for HP.

WS/damage for 400 or more usually kills them (lowest WS-kill I did was 410ish).

he wouldnt, but he would want faster xp, and 2 blus with evokers, refresh, and double ballad makes for hella fast xp. BLU's taking hate off the nin isnt a big deal provided they sub nin, and 2 head butts means they wont take shit for damage.

Ofcourse if the bard is good they will sing songs for the nin too, but speaking from my experience through mt z they dont really need them. That setup tears absolute shreds from the crawlers there. Most of the time you can use evokers roll and corsairs roll and not slow down kill speed in the slightest.

You want those marids spamming WSes (unless your party sucks and can't handle it.) More WS = More chigoe = more exp. So... the best DD for this would seem to be... THF/WAR! Since low delay weapons give the mob more TP (thus why it was added to MNK and NIN) and the 2 'low delay godly DDs' have subtle blow... Well yeah. Plus it increases marid hair droprates. Maybe the optimal party would be PLD/WAR THF/WAR THF/WAR BLU/THF WHM/SMN BRD/WHM. Possibly a meleeing joytoy RDM/WAR (no Subtle Blow from /NIN plz thx) instead of a THF if it hits too hard and you need extra cure/refresh power.
Tactical Points: what you need to know is here

For NIN and MNK (the jobs that inheritly get subtle blow) also get traits that speed up their attacks, their TP gain and TP given in time ratios is virtually unchanged

Also if you really want to give these things TP just spam fucking stone I or Dia on them any time a magic spell does 1 or more points of damage it gives the monster 10tp, 10 cast = 100tp; so long as the Marid is under 20%hp (when mob A.I. uses TP moves as soon as they reach 100tp) you'll get a chigoe

of which I'd personaly would spam stone, simply cause Dia is a funny spell and sometimes likes to do 0dmg on contact

PLD is probably a good job for kiting these but, truth is pretty much any smart player with Provoke can kite these all day while your party members pop and gank on Chiggers

Due to Chigoe's Nature of dieing on crits or none full damage TP moves(yiedling 0exp), melees are really at a disadvantage here Magic Damage seems to be the way to go here:

Melees: if you can use a weak bow/arrow set to TP up off the ktied Marid so you can use WS clean shot the Chigoe (/SAM might be favorable for here too)

    Magic users:
NIN has access to Ni nukes which gives NIN's something to use to kill Chigoe fairly fast and easy
BLU also a huge range of spells that would be useful here: be creative I guess
BLM tier III should be able to clean one off
RDM tier III (maybe + a tier II to finish)

These are just some ideas based on what I know about Marid's and Chigoes: sad thing is my drg is Lv65(prime level to really start doing this) and drg is probably one of the worse jobs for this simply cause my jumps will make Chigoes "fall to the ground" for 0 exp, guess I can jump the Marid for TP and stuff. I can always wear up some defense equip and voke the chigoes off the kiter and hold them for the others to kill off

You forgot BLU , which I stated earlier in this post as being one of the best for this...

    - Blu physical spells cast instantaneously, and are very consistant in damage with sushi and +acc gear. RDMs and BLMs, in order to achieve 400-500 dmg, have a casting time of around 6 or so seconds to drop the load on the chigoe-- those 6 seconds can kill your tank.

    - If multi-hit Blu physical spells, such as hysteric barrage or frenetic rip, decide to miss somewhat and not kill the chigoe-- it will not 'fall to the ground' and murder your exp, and you can just simply bludgeon it or head butt it for the kill. If a rampage or any WS for that matter, does less dmg than the chigoe's HP-- you will cause it to suicide for 0 exp.

    - Blu mage does not have to engage the mob, thus there is no danger of scoring a critical hit that ruins the chigoe. Other melees switch target to the chigoe and they may hit and crit it and kill it before their WS macro goes off.

    - If Chigoes pop really quick in succession, BLU does not need TP to clean them up. A hysteric barrage will take care of one. If another chigoe pops in the next 20 seconds before recast is finished, frenetic rip will deal with it. You also have bludgeons and headbutts to barrage it with. It will die fast either way. If the melees do not have TP when chigoes pop in succession, it can be bothersome and maybe even dangerous to your tank.

My party did not 'kite' or anything stupid like that. We straight tanked it, melees beat on the marid.. chigoes popped randomly here and there...i dealt with each one the moment it popped no problemo , being the BLU and all. When the Marid died, that was over 200 exp with a chain bonus applied added to all the total chigoes exp. Unfortunately, being 71+ will ruin your chaining exp bonuses, though... At least on the ones in Bhaflau Thickets.

Are the Wajoam Woodland ones higher, and allow higher levels to continue getting full chain bonuses on all chigs?

Just finished exp'ing there a few minutes ago for the second time and thought I might share some more info:

Chigoe health seems to be 410-415 HP. I have had a few 405-407 damage which resulted in no exp, a 415 damage WS gave exp though. As long as your melee can pull off a WS with that much damage, you're set.
( @Vail: We've had a DRG with mediocre gear and he did just fine at level 69)

Another weird thing I've noticed is that my crits didn't always insta-kill them. No idea why, really ... maybe it had to do with main/offhand crits since the RNG and DRG always killed with their crits.

As for the "kiting the Marid" thing .... why? Put on Bio and Drown and a PLD can tank it just fine, even with only RDM as main healer.

good thing I didn't say this:

oh wait I did.... I just didn't go indeapt about it, sense I don't play blu, and have only with 2 other blus no higher then Lv36: I understood that blue magic doesn't "fall" chigoes, that why I said "be creative"[/quote]

I know that shit from ffxicyclopedia, I thought it through already. Heres my reasoning.

Martial Arts and Dual Wield lower TP gain as well as delay. Two punches with a total 300 delay = 2 150 delay punches. Equal to the lowest delay dagger BUT with subtle blow added in. So thats lower TP than THF/WAR (which also has double AND triple attack, both tp increasers.) I would say it adds more TP that way than stone spam as well. Stone has a 6.5 second recast and adds 10 TP. A THF/WAR with a 150 delay dagger has a 2.5 second delay and adds 7.25 TP PLUS has a chance to Double or Triple attack (total of slightly less than +20% attacks [DA is 10% base chance for an extra attack triple is a 5% base chance for 2 extra attacks. Depending which is checked first this would be 19% or 19.5% extra attacks] for no reduced TP), which means on average you will hit the equivalent of 100% accuracy without such bonuses if you have 84% (1/1.15) accuracy. Thats a lot of TP. THF wins.
    Yes I was bored

Also dont kite...thats less TP gained since its harder for melee to hit and the mob gains no TP itself. A good PLD and a WHM should be more than good enough.

Just to be the Devil's Advocate~

MNK/WAR can also proc DA on both his swings and has kick attacks. Go do some more math~

It gives less tp since you have subtle blow among other things. DA on both swings, no shit, but BAREHANDED you have double the delay and double the attacks per time attacking, so same amount of total attacks. Add a weapon (not a +0 delay of course) and its even more obvious. You know 99% of the time giving a mob TP is a bad thing, its not really something to try to aspire to.

True, I was mainly going for the TP aspect though.

And coming from a BLM that's MPK'd his LS many times while waiting to go into dynamis-beauce, Dia is the best way to give a mob TP.

Spam it like hell. Give a mob a lot moe TP than any other job could do aside from a HFing MNK.

Maxx: The extra delay on the weapons adds TP as well, fyi.

Edit: It's also a good thing to get the Madrids under 20% ASAP.

Under 20% the AI uses TP every time it hits 100% instead of waiting a bit so the extra damage is nice.

But since it is a static +3 TP gained on enemies, lower delay is more effective.

So you also want people to pump TP into it under 20% without killing it too, RIGHT?

Yes fighting marids is counterintuitive. Just think about it, THF is the best for it.

the Marid is gonna have to die eventually, it won't live forever poping exp plentiful chigoes

and honestly no where did I suggest THF was a bad job to give these TP, any motha fucka who wants to give these TP is more then able to do it. It's not Like Marids are rare monsters, or they don't have a low repop timer still sticking with they will HAVE TO DIE EVENTUALLY and who gives a shit about how much damage/TP given,

if your really fucking anal you'll use high delay low damage weapons for optimal TP given/damage dealt, which is PERFECT for Dark Knights like your emo-self with a low level scythe, or use Relic Scythe (not that you should be fighting these at 75 mind you)

and sense your idea is to throw all your melee on the Marid anyways it's gonna get 100tp in only 10 seconds either way from 3-4 people meleeing it, and I don't think you want chigoe's poping that fast unless you can handle it

I thought on BG we worry about squeezing an extra 500 exp/hour and thus worried about optimizing. Sorry, I guess we should just level DRG and do DRG parties for 10k xp/hour.

And wow you're pissed off. Relax, its just a damn forum about a damn game.
