Sorry, I guess we should just level DRG and do DRG parties for 10k xp/hour.
I leveled DRG to Lv65; roughly 80% of the total exp earned has been through solo exp for one purpose and one purpose only
    .
    ..
    ...
    Kindred Seal's
I get about 99 seals every 2 weeks off only 2 hours of solo per day. DRG is a fair Damage dealer, but they are far from the best DD in exp PTs even with my equip: still doesn't change the fact it's one of the best solo jobs and great for farming

and if you really wanna push TP as an issue just throw a Kraken club at a Marid, if you want optimal

I just watched Yoshiharu, probably the best PLD on Gilgamesh, solo a Marid. Among his gear was Hrotti, Kraken Club, Hecatomb body, crimson legs, and Defending Ring.

I havn't tried fighting chigoes in a party, but melees could go /war and use defender to help keep the marid alive while feeding it tp.

You seem to think that Marids are fragile or something ... even with 2 strong melee and a BLM they don't just die in a few seconds. They got high DEF and a shitload of HP. There's no need to gimp your damage with Defender or spam Dia to give them TP, just hit them like you hit normal exp mobs.

As Vail pointed out, they have to die eventually. No big deal though since there's at least 4 of them there and they're on 5 mins repop. Unless there's a bunch of BLMs soloing them you will never run out.

Are these viable for level 75 PTs or just upper 60s?

Just upper 60s, low 70s...above that, the chigoes will be too low and you won't be able to chain them for xp, at least thats what I'm getting from reading the above.

I'm psyched to try this out as 69 blm soon, I haven't been able to get psyched to play blm as its usually so boring...but fighting big huphelumps and one-shotting chigoes with tier 3 sounds fun ^^

Draxyl's right. When you hit 71, most of the normal Marid's Chigoes stop giving chains, and by 72 you're pretty much Shit Outta Luck. There are some Grand Marids that might be a level higher, but that's really only one more level, so yeah, it's pretty much a late 60s/early 70s mob.

Just got back from a Marid party. Overall it was really great; I've pulled higher exp in more traditional parties, but Marids seem to bridge the gap between fighting Colibris and moving on to Bhaflau Thickets or Caedarva Mire.

    Setup (67-69):
    PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN (me), RDM/BLM, WHM/BLM, BLM/WHM.

The fights themselves take some getting used to, but once your party has adjusted, they are very smooth. Generally this is how it went. I went out and pulled a Marid (having a good puller isn't very important; mobs respawn quickly and the Marids run extremely slow). At camp, the PLD first voked the mob, and Bio III was immediately cast. I was using a pure ACC set up just so I could give the Marid TP; the melees used multi-hit WS for TP. I would also occasionally pop Defender before my Rampages to keep my damage down. Once a Chigoe popped, I switched target and engaged it. After both swings, I switched back to the Marid. I'm not sure if this was necessary or not, but it was helpful because it kept the Chigoe off of the PLD. After the Chigoe pop, the BLM immediately cast a tier three spell on it. Blizzard III, Thunder III, and Fire III all one-shotted the Chigoe on most attempts, with the exception of a few resists.

As I mentioned earlier, these things can initially be a challenge. Your party should adjust itself and determine how fast or slow you want the Chigoe to spawn. In a few instances, my party ended up having three Chigoe out at once. We were able to deal with it, but it still wasn't the ideal situation. Once we got the hang of it the fights became much easier.

On average, I'd say each Chigoe kill gave the party 50-60 EXP. The Marid's death was usually on chain 10-13, and rewarded us with 280 EXP. These numbers might not seem too impressive, but it ended up averaging us 8,000 EXP/HR. Overall I got 21,000 EXP in this party in a little more than 3 hours.

For a first attempt I was really surprised. I'm sure this was not the ideal set up, but it got the job done. I'd say the ideal range for these is 64-67, given that the BLM is able to one-shot the Chigoe and the Paladin is surviving decently.

I might return tomorrow, hopefully with a Joyeuse for offhanding. I'll be sure to note any changes in the set up and how much EXP we get by comparison.

    67-69pt 70xp per chigoe, 400ish HP per?

Would it be possible to have a level 75thf/TP spewing job solo a marid, while a duo/trio of low 60's one shot the chigoes as they come out for normal mob experience points? Ultimate lazy man leveling, while a thf friend farms marid hair. Sounds good to me.

Yeah, people have "PL'd" friends this way. Get a few 75's to take on Marid's and spawn the chigoes, then the mid 60's player ganks them and takes all the xp. You'll need a healer to keep the 60's guy alive though.

What job are you, Celeras? I'd say the best way to do this would be bringing a BLM and a voker of some sort. Usually the BLM can one shot the Chigoe, but if the nuke gets resisted things get a little bit messy. Always nice to have a back up there.

    i did a manaburn-esque marid pt.

    pld/war, blmx4,and a rdm/whm..

i just kited the marid around while the mages did tier 1 spells to give it tp, when a chigoe would spawn they would all nuke the chigoe like mad, nice chaining. 11k an hour.

Just leveled my set party (NIN, THF, COR, BLU, BRD, WHM) on them tonight and was suitably impressed.

    http://www.ls-caffeine.com/russta/lolmarids.jpg

    I lol'd damn hard.

Anyway; Ninja was kitted out in HQ Arhats Body and Head and just used Katanas, he did fine. It took a while for us to adapt to the flow of things and set some "rules" in place for handling the chigoes but when we did the exp flew and we made 23k in 3 hours very easily. But best of all the EXP is fun and doesn't feel like a grind. Corsair was great for this as I just set my Slug Shot macro to <stnpc> and one shotted Chigoes whenever I had TP, Blue Mage and White Mage took care of the others when I didn't.

A nice refresher for EXP parties. SE was obviously trying to breath new life into the EXPing experience with these.

Unless it was completely unintentional and gets nerfed next update.

There are a lot of spots for casual XPing in the new areas that don't require full parties, and right now it's probably my favorite part of the expansion.

Could a summoner play a DD role in killing chigoes, maybe with nether blast or eclipse bite, or is a summoner's role limited to just healing in this type of pt?
