edit: I love when I check people and there's some slot mysteriously missing a peice of gear. Like maybe they were already 60/60 when they went to fetch that other ring out of the safe, and just said 'fuck it, I can't toss this stack of earth crystals, so I'll just have to do without the 4 INT today.'

I've used Sniper's Rings on BRD because I was too lazy to get MP or CHR rings off a mule or out of mog.

But as a brd that isn't that big of a deal. The blm shown above... now thats a useless waste of space. Kind of reminds me of a guy on bahamut named Skilled yet wears full wise rdm jse shit. The ironing is delicious.

In Elcura's case he's most definetly not gimped. He has the gear that's necessary for his job and he does it well. Partying with his RDM in KRT mnk pty made me want to touch him all over despite the fact that he's a silly chav (btw i believe KRT MNK pties, among other things, is how you find out whether or not WHMs, RDMs, and BRDs are good players or bad players).

The thing I can't stand the most is when people downgrade their job because they don't like it, but still try to do things on it. IE person who lvled brd to 75, hated it, but still did pties on brd wearing a Genbu Shield and a Garuda's Dagger. If you don't like it and want to sell the gear for it, good for you, but don't go wasting other people's time with your gimptasticness.

I'd say you're wrong.

Gimp/pimp don't refer to a player's skill or ability to perform their duties, they refer to gear.

You can tell if someone is gimp or pimp by /checking them. That's all you need to see. You can't tell, however, if they are good or not until you see them in action.

Though, if you want to get technical, I will agree there is some discretion involved rather than simply whether there's any white box around an item. e.g. Scorp Harness > Linen Doublet+1, but that's just common sense. However, comparisons such as Koenig Cuirass > Gem Cuirass, or Adaman Hauberk > Haubergeon +1, fall short because the HQ gear is still pimp. Just the abjuration gear is even more pimp. I will also admit there is some middle ground. A hauberk or scorpion harness is neither gimp nor pimp. It's just average.

But in general, a /check is all you need to determine if they are gimp/average/pimp, and a general rule of thumb is more white boxes = more pimp.

2x Diamond Ring (changed to diamond after doing lvl10 > 73 in 2 eremite NQ rings)

It was my first job, and my first playthrough wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when the game first came out. Now it's unnacceptable.
Keep in mind though this was back when 3k/hr pts were normal, 4k/hr parties were "omg", anything above that was "gtfo you're lying", also chain5's were rare, chain4 was the norm, with everyone resting at the end of the chain.
Everyone would fight IT+++++ , the fights took forever, but that's how we thought the best exp came from.
Also back then, drg were popular, mnk were horrible and received no invites till the 60's, because they couldnt do distortion, and as all of the oldschool players know, EVERYONE USED DISTORTION ONRY. BLM was today's bard, as in blm would make the mobs die faster/get more xp/hr.

Oh, and, all your money came from farming black tiger fangs and trading them to the NPC, that or rusty cap fishing. Both of them were really good money at the time, everyone had thief to 15 , and blm soloing was unheared of, because it was a very weak class(as in glass cannon) and considered unpopular by alot of people, because they couldnt get in and melee with everyone.

I used eremites up to the mid 50s then got some of the NQ 54 rings, this was about 5-6 months after NA release that I hit the mid 50s.

Not that much. Every single SC to 75 back then was either darkness or distortion, MB'ing thunder was just "lol yeah right". Thunder was weak, and everything dies to ice. Therefore, the ice staff won at life.

Oh also, the parties used to ask the blm for what SC/MB they want (which *surprise surprise* was always distortion), rather than the other way around. Like I said, the blm was the bard, BLM was the princess job that would leave if you said anything bad at all or showed disrespect

I hit 60 with RSE and 1 peice of AF and no staffs. After that I farmed and sold warps in 2nd jungle for 500g a piece, FIVE HUNDRED GIL, yes, that was money back then. After awhile I got enough for my dark and ice staffs and got the rest of my AF. At 73? I got thunder and fire staffs.

God I miss those days.. everyone was gimp, even the JP.. I remember when Errant stuff came out and everyone thought they were the end all equip.

Yup, I remember when WAR was teh gimp and everyone was all about DRK. I wasn't around for the DRG/SAM Penta-spam though, I was still a noob RDM. I didn't discover macro swapping on RDM till mid-late 50s (And I seriously thought INT helped me land Slow and Paralyze) and I always meleed on Crabs in Boya, had crappy gear and crappy macros.... those were the days...

Makes me wanna level RDM on a new character to see what I could do this time around.
