Not sure, my friend in FFXI that lives 2 states away gets r0'd or d/c'd the exact same times as me on the dotOriginally Posted by vinto

same here, since i moved to colorado comcast has been perfect for 2 years, in the last 6 weeks it's completely sucked ass... it's like their DNS just drops about 5-6 times a day for 30 mins at a timeOriginally Posted by AriaEminence
I'm in Broomfield, CO on Comcast and it's been working fine for me the last few weeks.
...BUT, prior to that I used to get these weird DC's where I'd have to completely reset my router + cable modem in order to maintain a solid FFXI connection - but the rest of my system would be just fine w/o restart, I could web surf and download stuff. Just FFXI refused to be stable, and I'd R0 after login without doing all the reset stuff. I'm a pretty good computer guy, especially at trouble shooting stuff, but I could never figure out what caused this. I assumed it was my router, because it has Linksys printed on the front.
Come over for a bowl and/or beer & LAN Raineer![]()
I'm in Atlanta, GA, and I had Comcast 2 years ago, always D/C'ed all the time. It was so unreliable, so I switched to Charter Cable Internet, and had problems with them in a different house. Just moved again and switched back to Comcast and I haven't DC'ed once in the 3 months I have had them, and I'm getting amazing download speeds (read: very fast porn download speeds).
I know at one point with windower if i had aol or msn open when i used windower everytime id get a IM or just just something random Pol would crash out. Since the new one i havent had that problem though but might be a reason to some of your problems. If you start msn and aol after your ingame it never crashs.
Also seem if your dual accounting on one machine with fraps on it randomly crashes to
Another Comcast user here... never had a problem in a year and half of using Comcast + FFXI. This week a friend came to visit who also plays... she's been playing on my PC while I've switched to xbox. The first day we were R0'ing every 20 minutes it seemed. Thought it was the xbox (love blaming the xbox), but it happens to us even when the other isn't playing now. Its not as severe as it was, but still annoying as hell to get R0'd every 30 mins and occasionly D/C.
Has anyone made a tech support call? I would but I know all they'll do is have me reboot the router, then try it... and unless they stay on the phone for 30 minutes while I play, they won't know if that resolved it. Regardless, I'm hoping they are aware of the issue.
I have with Comcast. I even got lucky enough for it to fail while I was on the phone. They passed me to a tech who "traced the line" and his amazing diagnosis was "well, your cable modem was online and now it's offline." BRILLIANT!Has anyone made a tech support call?
I can watch the lights on the cable modem and know it's their problem, others in my neighborhood have the same issue. I lose all internet, not just FFXI (obviously, since I'm losing signal with them.) Resetting the modem will help, but only after 5-10 mins.
This REALLY sucks because it happened like 2 weeks after I went to Vonage, which continues to fail with one-way conversations due to lack of bandwith.
Sent an email today to Comcast and this was the response...
Truth is the modem they gave me is probably 5 years old, but with the number of problems being reported I highly doubt this is the issue.Thank you for taking the time to write us.
I have performed a diagnostic test of your cable modem, it is reporting a high number of resets over the last several days. I recommend that the modem be exchanged for another unit in hopes that this issue is corrected.
Your equipment can be exchanged at the Payment Center closest to your home address. Please visit the following web link in order view our New England facilities:
My Comcast has been giving me 2-4 R0's for exactly 10 minutes at a time for well over a year now. After changing everything on my end including the modem three times, two routers, all the way down to the wires and the cable splitter. Countless phone calls and three visits from the technician to look at their equipment, Comcast's diagnosis is "I dunno, looks fine to me." Needless to say, the problem persists.
Comcast is just like Ma Bell before the big breakup. Yeah, I paid bills that long ago. :/
They suck for me too. Any time there's an outage calling TS is hopeless. The last 4 calls I made went exactly as follows:
- "Did you reset the cable modem?"
- "Did you reboot your computer?"
- "Can you do both of those again for me?"
- "Can you take out any routers or firewalls and plug directly up to the modem to ensure you are not causing the problem yourself?"
- Patiently explain that after 10+ years in IT I know it's not on my end. I made sure of that before I initiated this life wasting phone call. /laugh at the idea of running naked on Comcast's network without firewalls too.
- "It must be your wiring as I do not see any problems on our end. I will schedule a tech to come inspect your home. There will be a charge should this prove to be a problem on your end. Would you like a technician dispatched?"
- "Sure, why not. The wiring in my house just might have spontaneously self destructed. Better check."
- Wait 4-12 hours, things have magically resolved themselves
- "This is Comcast calling to see if you still need a technician dispatched as your problem may have been resolved on our end. Would you still like a technician to visit your home today?"
It's like they have a Stupid Script everyone gets on their first day of work. If only it were legal to kill complete idiots or hopeless incompetents.
Changed the title for you guys
Anyone test out the link that was posted for JP Windower?
I use Comcast and haven't really had any problems with them, in years. Yet I hear all the time about people who do.. is it just an east coast thing?
For me.. FFXI experiences random crashes alot, sometimes it will just freeze up, sometimes the music stops, and I will freeze a few minutes later, usually after besieged, the game is really laggy and music lags as well, and FFXI needs to be restarted. Reformatting (lol, I am bad with computers, no clue what else to do) didn't help. Neither did um.. defragmenting, or whatever that is.
My computer also Randomly restarts, it has been doing it for awhile, and I have no clue why. FFXI doesn't have to be running for it to randomly restart, and once again, Reformat and Defragmenting didn't fix it.
Any help would be appreciated! Especially on random restarting!
comcast sometimes likes to give you uncapped speeds for the first couple months to make people think their service is insanely fast then theyll cap it down again. or possibly like nobody else in your neighborhood uses broadbandOriginally Posted by Dank
If that's true that's really fucking dirty...
My experiences coincide with this. I've had comcast be the only thing available in the last 4 cities i've lived in, all were newer places to get cable internet too (welcome to the midwest)Originally Posted by corrin
All the houses in my neighborhood are over 300k, so I would say the people can probably afford cable internet.
And here I thought I was the only person who suffered from these same reoccuring problems with ComcastOriginally Posted by TsingTao

It sounds the same for just about every internet company. I used to have problems all the time with SBC (lol DSL), called them quite frequently to tell them how shitty their line was, and all they did was tell me something on my half of the line has been changed. Then, magically a few days later after I have changed nothing, an SBC truck hides down the street to fix the problems and then rolls away, and suddenly it works fine! Fucking piece of shit companies, own up to your own ass wiringOriginally Posted by Melosz
