    Getting ads out of AIM

I've noticed for a really long time AIM freezes up whenever I open the buddy list and finally figured it out to be the stupid ass ads. These ads annoy me cause they play music and shit sometimes or whatever, and apparently they freeze aim for upto30 seconds when a new one wants to load while Im doing stuff.

Anyway, I remember a while ago I found a way to get a line of code out that takes out ads leaving just a blank spot, but that probably doesn't work with this version (plus I forgot what to do). So if anyone has any idea that doesn't involve getting another version of aim (they usually lag me to crap...) about getting rid of ads my version is 5.2.

Well the workaround that I use atm is to just close the Buddy List window.
Whenever I want to AIM someone I click the Tray Icon and open an IM and then close the Buddy List back down to the tray.

That doesn't work because it freezes and doesn't let me do anything.

It's been years since I had AIM on my machine so this may only work for older versions, but you could at one point simply alter your HOSTS file to prevent AIM from successfully downloading new banners.

Whether or not that still works (i.e. without crashing AIM) is up to the sophistication of the programmers at AOL.

If you use peer guardian... allow it to block ads, and ads will no longer show up on aim.

I'd like to know how to do this too. Whenever I double click the icon to open AIM to IM someone it always takes it one step further and gives me a right click as it opens. Not really a major issue but it's still annoying and I'd like to try this as a fix.

Kuno, in older versions it used to be easy to fully customize AIM, the days where getting an IP address', direct connect, trojans and the like were easily obtained through AIM.

Now however its almost impossible to change anything.. I did stubble across a .dll that replaced one and got rid of those stupid ads, but I dont recall where it was. Search google for like.. 'remove aim ads .dll' or something.
