I never said I don't tip. I seldom refuse to tip unless the service is outright abominable.

What I refuse to do is tip an automatic 20%. Tipping is a voluntary fucking thing, a thank you to a server who actually put some pride into their work. I don't care that it's a difficult and tiring job. So's any fucking job you do to pay the bills. Guess what, if I'm mediocre at any job I'll probably make less money and get fired there, too. But I don't feel entitled to 5% more than what I was originally getting just for showing up to work on time and doing what was expected of me.

15% is customary in every part of the US I've ever been in.

20% is for excellent service...this isn't something new, it's something that's been true for as long as I've known it.

(though tip went to $2/beer for some fucking reason...$2 for grabing a bottle and popping the cap? That's fucking highway robbery).

Plus there's the whole not reporting but 15% of your tips on your income tax, so it's fucking free money...stop complaining, if you're good, you'll get your 20%. If you're mediocre...you'll still get your 15%. And if you suck...you'll still usually get at least 10% (and if the tip is included, you're not getting a damn thing extra unless you were extrodinary).
