You can tab through Generals, Volunteers, etc. with an <stnpc> macro. The only problem is if there's a throng of enemies there you have to tab through them as well. I usually pick a general, target him, then macro Cure 3 off him to the nearby Volunteers and Goblins and Immortal Guards, just because it's more useful and more exp/IS than nuking for .5% a mob's health.

You can use <stpc> as well, but you would still have that problem.

    Interesting...

Now someone needs to spend a rediculous amout of time making a formula to determine how many points every action in besieged gives so people can get 700 points and actually contribute to the cause.

And if my XP wasn't capped on RDM, I would make it my life's work to follow General Zazarg to keep protect IV, shell IV, and haste on him because he is a pimp.

I actually like fighting alongside him when I do besieged, heck I even go as far as having any mages with me be his cure slaves but I'm sure not for the same reasons as you though, I just like seeing him beat shit up

I followed Zazarg around a bit yesterday and unfiltered NPC damage to see what kind of damage he was doing, he has pretty broken high acc compared to players but his damage output wasn't that good even for Besieged mobs. Next Besieged I'll go WHM and try to check out all the generals to see what kind of damage they do compared to players and to each other.

I reported in an earlier thread that I popped out of my Mog House just as Besieged was ending, and tossed out a quick Phantom Roll (Ninja, I think). Got 20 exp.

If I had to guess, you get 10% of your damage or the amount of HP you cure returned as exp. at the end of Besieged. I don't have the patience to keep track, though.

Hm, since it seems to raise other skills fairly fast, I wonder if the "bonus" skillups also apply to combat skills...like guarding or parry. For instance, outfit yourself in the normal parry skill set and try to tank some besieged mobs.

Although, lots of folks are doing besieged, and no one is on here saying "OMG look at the parry skillups", so I'll go back to slow monday @ work.

I've tried this with my NIN before and the skillup rates for defensive abilities aren't going to go up all insane like the magic skills do, they operate at the same normal rate. I've had one or two .3s on parry while in Besieged, but nothing to write home about.

I thought that for Guarding, and all I can say is lol. Unless you have a healer near you to go without shadows (I always go as mnk/nin when on mnk for besieged) you may live for more than 2 mins and still not see a guard skillup.

lol... when I am there skilling up, I am ALSO curing my party, raising people and directing traffic.

Since someone resurrected this thread , I have quickly capped all my magic skills now, the only incentive left for me are parry and guard skillups =P

That plus the fact that I have way too many imperial points, changed the way I do it completely.. Now I go mnk/war or any fun sub i feel like, I try to get hate to tank, and don't care about dying, I just HP quickly for full hp if i do. It's fun because I can also be a little strategic by voking and moving around mobs with sorta of "sacrifice pulls" when there's too many unclaimed near a general.

Last time I went mnk75/blu just for fun (ethereal earring for cocoon was nice  ), I really tried to die, tanked quite a bit, but just couldn't, mobs were hitting me for 80-120, but I kept getting cured by people :D
I got a single 0.1 guard skillup in 3 besieged but it was worth it and overall still pretty fun.

Congrats... I maxxed out my enfeebling, and dark magic on BLM (not super hard to do, but it's even easier in besieged), and I also discovered that enhancing magic skillups come much more frequently from enhancing the NPCs or even other Level 75's.

Next time you are skilling up enhancing, just run around casting protect on anyone who looks semi-pimped out... or get 5 of your level 75 friends into a party and do the bar-ra spells!

Since somebody necrobumped this topic, I am happy to report that I have finally capped Healing Magic skill all thanks to Besieged. Generals seem to putter out after level 250 or so, so I switched to curing Qutrubs. I kept getting .5 skillups even at level 275.

Now that my Cure III's pimped out at 235 HP healed, I recently switched to trying to raise Enhancing Magic, but those NPCs are stingy with the skillups. Even worse, some cockgobbler always casts Protect4 on them so your Protect I's have no effect.

Yeah, no one ever think about casting shell. You can usually find a npc to skillup with it.

Also you have to choose your general carefully, the one near the astral chocolate is like a RDM so he/she (I forget) casts those buffs on herself already.
