Well everyone else has listed pretty much everyone I like, but I also like the Def Comedy Jam comedians, and especially Dave Chappelle.

These three guys are actually funny. They are all Americans and do histerical sattirical standup. By looking at them people may think that's it's just constant white people bashing but it really isn't, most of their material is making fun of the flaws of muslims in a jestful way.

I know the dude with the beard irl

Honestly, how did no one mention Bill Cosby? I know that people think of the sweater-wearing Jello-hawking guy from TV when they think of Bill Cosby, but his stand up from the late 70's early 80's was utterly brilliant. ("Those are not my parents; those are old people trying to get into heaven!")

I actually got to see Mitch Hedburg on stage once, he completely blew away the room. Dave Attel is also amazing live. Jon Stewart is so different when doing stand up than on the Daily Show. (He has a terrible potty mouth, which makes him funnier.) Lewis Black is just a god. I wish more good comedians came to Pittsburgh.

Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, George Carlin, that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

I'm gonna guess no one mentioned Bill Cosby cause that's probably before our time for most of the posters here.

Bill Cosby definitely. "To Russell My Brother, Whom I Slept With" is required listening. Runner-up - "Himself," a great example in how never cussing can finally pay off when you finally say "asshole." Eddie Murphy before he had kids and moved on to making crappy movies was one of the best ever (and his Raw impersonation of Bill Cosby is amazing). Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Red Foxx, Bill Hicks - no question these are the reasons we are able to have edgy guys like Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock today. Eddie Izzard and Stephen Wright for putting more faith in their audience's intelligence than anyone else. Denis Leary - No Cure For Cancer is one of the great frenetic performances, and his bit at the end about his kid and the environment where he fakes you out by calming down is priceless. "And then sometimes I think......fuck him." Great payoff. Along the same vein of offensiveness but with less energy is Nick DePaulo, I really like how cheerfully offensive that guy is. Robin Williams, on coke or off it, great either way (somehow more vulgar sober).

Finally, for guys in their prime right now, and a great underrated award, Ron White. That guy totally does not deserve to be lumped in with those other Blue Collar guys. He's witty, his delivery and timing are impeccable and unexpected, and he builds this rapport with the audience that few people do. His bit on "Drunk in Public" where he says he only smokes to decribe his hunting relative, the audience groans knowingly, then he transitions into saying that's how he keeps his hands off his dick, and his "Don't leave anybody out" policy ("I used to not even have a policy...now I got that one") is terrific and subtle and he hasn't even gotten to the actual joke yet. That's so much better than the guys he gets lumped in with. Ah well.

Oh man I can't believe I forgot Bill Cosby! I love him, I feel bad now...

I bought his "Bill Cosby as Himself" stand up comedy DVD a while back, and I've watched that thing like 20 times because it's so awesome, and so funny and true. I agree with Septimus, most people think about Jello when they think of Bill Cosby, but he is a damn good comedian, and I've seen like every Episode of the Cosby show ever =)
